Do New York Police Have a Suspect in Karina Vetrano murder

Snip

Police Commissioner William Bratton doused the speculation at a different event that day.

Bratton said: “We have no suspects. We’re not close to an arrest. I certainly feel for the family, this young woman, that they would like a resolution to the grief they’re feeling, but we can’t provide that at this time.”

I believe it was a tactic they are trying to use to get the guy to turn himself in. Sigh I wish they had answers.

I am so hopeful!
I keep thinking that KV's dad has friends in LE (next door neighbor?) and, maybe, there some strong leads.

The NYPD can do this. They can find this piece of crap. I really believe that.

I was looking around trying to focus on where she spent her time. I decided to go back to Vetro's facebook and see if any weird comments were made on their post. I think I missed back then that they were closing the rest of the week out of respect for the family. Seems odd to close a whole week. Her murder happened on a Tuesday, I could understand closing one day, but a whole week almost for a buisness? Seems so odd. Or am I overthinking?

"It is with great sadness that I post this statement due to the tragic death of Karina Vetrano. From all of us at the Russo family, management team and staff our hearts go out to the Vetrano family during this time of sorrow. As a respect to her family and the community the RV Rooftop where Karina worked in 2015 will be closed until next week. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and the entire community as we mourn this horrible loss.
Respectfully,
Frank Russo Jr."

That does seem like a long time to be closed and to lose income, and I'm sure it was expected of them.

I wonder if private events were previously scheduled anyway - just closed for public dining?? IDK.

I don't think she had facebook. Might have confused Vetro for her last name maybe? Lol Vetro is the restaurant she worked at in 2015.

I agree with the first part of this, but not the second. Socialization and current culture *does* go a long way to reducing sexual assault and rape. No, not all sexual assault and rape, but a fair amount of it. When men who would never do such a thing laugh off rape jokes, deviant behavior (pinching a waitresses bottom, for one example, cat-calling or making lewd remarks as another) it normalizes it. The men who *are* inclined to rape or assault women or harass women don't feel pushback or repercussions from their male peers and are able to have their belief that their impulses are both normal and expected, and that any man would do what they do if they were alpha enough/had the chance/wouldn't get caught .That emboldens all sorts of misogynistic, hateful and dehumanizing behavior and beliefs. Remember that once upon a time men could legally rape their wives. There's no need to look further than some of the subcultures that exist today (many frats for example) that not only condone but encourage assault. The culture that allows this to flourish needs to be addressed instead of trying to make women' s lives even more policed and constrained and curtailed (never jog alone, don't dress too "whatever"<- this always changes>, never be alone with a man who isn't your father, boyfriend, or brother, always have a gun<!!!> etc. etc.) Women aren't going to be able to address this, and shouldn't be the ones held responsible for stopping attacks on themselves. Other men have to step up to the plate and denounce the constant "less heinous" behavior they see around them rather than writing it off as "boys will be boys" or gender essentialism.

imo

I agree with everything you said there. Great post! Thank you!

I agree I find it a bit odd too.

I, honestly, don't believe the perp is a "regular" guy who saw KV and acted on a sexual or devious impulse. IMO this is a sick and violent person. This level of brutality is not "caused" by anything. Just pure evil.

I agree. Rape is more about control than sex. jmo

Somehow it hurt more reading it in print this morn and coming from BB, but some thought this might be the case

Who is telling men it's ok? I doubt their moms, sisters or grandmas. Other bros or men?
Forgive me. I am going to step on my soapbox for a minute. How often is alcohol involved in campus rapes, date rapes, or any other kind of deviant behavoir?

Alcohol often contributes to bad behavoir, lapses of judgement, the lowering of inhibitions, severe lapses of memory, impulse control and early death all the while killing necessary brain cells.

And while everyone's at it, why not tell and teach your kids (boys and girls, men and women) that alcohol is a drug and a dangerous one at that...and because it's legal and not necessarily frowned upon especially when the general populace thinks it's ok since "everyone" does it, makes it that much more dangerous. (for sociopaths, deviants, middle America kids, and everyone else on the human spectrum.)

Why does a news organization in Australia have this information - is anyone seeing a local paper with this info??

Is "bargaining" one of the stages of grief? The parents seem to have moved from anger to a kind of "bargaining" with the killer. "Give yourself up and we will give the money to whomever you choose." "Give yourself up and we might go easier on you."

It's heartbreaking. It's all they probably feel that they can do for their child now. I am just praying that they get some kind resolution before too long.

BBM, In some ways yes. Bargaining with God is pretty common. I think that they are desperate to have answers and will try any tactic that might work. My heart breaks for them.

The stages of grief, known by the acronym DABDA, include
Denial – The first reaction is denial. In this stage individuals believe the diagnosis is somehow mistaken, and cling to a false, preferable reality.
Anger – When the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue, they become frustrated, especially at proximate individuals. Certain psychological responses of a person undergoing this phase would be: "Why me? It's not fair!"; "How can this happen to me?"; '"Who is to blame?"; "Why would this happen?".
Bargaining – The third stage involves the hope that the individual can avoid a cause of grief. Usually, the negotiation for an extended life is made in exchange for a reformed lifestyle. People facing less serious trauma can bargain or seek compromise.
Depression – "I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"; "I'm going to die soon, so what's the point?"; "I miss my loved one, why go on?"
During the fourth stage, the individual despairs at the recognition of their mortality. In this state, the individual may become silent, refuse visitors and spend much of the time mournful and sullen.
Acceptance – "It's going to be okay."; "I can't fight it, I may as well prepare for it."
In this last stage, individuals embrace mortality or inevitable future, or that of a loved one, or other tragic event. People dying may precede the survivors in this state, which typically comes with a calm, retrospective view for the individual, and a stable condition of emotions.

Thanks Mamacerced ~

My pleasure, GeeEm. Unfortunately, it appears to still be in the funding stage, but good to keep an eye on the info.
