I'm guessing the condom found nearby was not from the perp. Ugh. I wonder why there was DNA on her phone. That would mean he held it? I'm thinking it would be fingerprints rather than DNA. Maybe they just didn't mention where else it was found until he is caught and trial? Just thinking out loud.

Well, I'm confused. This NYTimes
article makes it sound as though there is no one in the park except for fishermen?!

It also indicated that she's been jogging without her father for awhile. I thought it was just this one time.

Has the reporting been spotty or is no one asking the right questions or is no one giving definitive answers or is it just me?

Seems like she only began jogging without father since his recent back injury.

Also, the nearby resident appears to be saying birdwatchers frequent a nearby sanctuary; the homeless frequent the encampment by the bridge,

On the other side of Spring Creek park, (the other side of Crossbay blvd bridge) is the place where fishermen go. And I never understood why anyone would fish off the waters of Jamaica bay!!! Lol

Am I missing something? Earlier reports made it sound as though the park was teeming with the homeless?!

This makes it sound as though it could have been a premeditated act and not just a vagrant who happened by, saw her and grabbed her.

This is unrelated, but an observation I made today. While walking to my office building this morning in the middle of 42nd Street, right across from Grand Central a man was sitting on the steps of a restaurant masturbating. Right out in the opened. Now I've lived in NY my whole life, worked in the city for many years, seen many crazy things but nothing like this. I was perplexed. There were many people walking by and saw the same thing I saw. The men either looked and looked back, or laughed. The women were disgusted and many of us moved to the side and called 911 or looked for a cop to wave down. The cops finally showed up and asked the man to stop and leave. What?!?! I thought something like this was illegal. Turns out that this wasn't the man's first time getting caught. Why wasn't he behind bars. He had his pants down, genitals out. Why was this okay? And if this isn't his first time, it won't be his last. What if he turns to a woman next and rapes her? I just don't get it. Society allows it..then someone in the end pays for it...like KV. SIGH.

I I thought I recalked rape2x. Which someone (I think on WS said meant both). Maybe also oral for throat. Dam, this guy must be fast. I not thinking he had a whole lot if time plus you don't know if someone is going to come jogging by to hear/see what's happening. Unless this area is totally deserted and he knew nobody would be coming around. But then, why would KV and Dad even run there together?

Because of the near universality of cell phones and more and more women unwilling to tolerate this so-called lower level sexual deviance anymore, we're seeing more and more filming of the deviants in the act, followed by video and/or photographs being released to the public to help ID the perps (One example is the release of cell phone video of unidentified subway perverts.).

I saw it once back in the mid 80's in the subway tunnel. But the guy was covered up a bit and lying down.

I also found the "homeless" to be more polite than the Wall Street types down in the subway tunnels.

I no longer live there (in the NYC area) but the news makes it sounds like NYC has gotten unkempt again since DeBlasio.

I was rarely afraid riding on the subway. Even later at night. (This was in the 80's)I remember riding it one night when it was just me and Bernie Getz!

If her DNA is on outside of condom, then it would not surprise me if perp found a used condom and touched her with it to fool LE into thinking he used it....
as her DNA would be on outside....

My previous thoughts was that the killer threw her phone, hence the DNA. Her guard was down with this guy, still think its someone that she knew, threw in an act of rage/defense. She was texting, he was watching her I would think a random "jump" type of attack the phone wouldn't be touched.

WTH? I caught a guy taking a pee between my car and his in a shopping center/mixed use apartment complex a few years ago and yelled at him. He had the gonads to talk back to me. I told he that I could have him arrested for indecent exposure and probably get him listed as a sex offender if there happened to be some minor children around (which there probably were). He was a weirdo and I quit going to the restaurant in the shopping center. Amazingly, it was in a very nice part of town (right down the road from where the brand new Dallas Cowboys Star training facility just opened!

I originally thought from the way initial articles were written that it was the first time she jogged alone. But, this appears not to be true, she dad couldn't jog due to disability... How long did she jog alone has never been answered.
Also not answered, since she was texting at or near time of attack, that would tell us if attack happened as she first ran out along path, versus return trip back over the path. Attack on return would be more common to spontaneous attack, whereas attack on intial run out might indicate a stalker or preplanned..
