<snip>

Police were able to compile the sketch based on the recollections of a worker at the north end of the park who said he was startled by the appearance of the unknown man as he left the park along a bike and jogging trail near the Belt Parkway, the official said.

>snip>

“A worker in the area said he spotted a guy,” the official said. The worker was surprised to see the man and for a moment thought he was going to be mugged, the official said.

Also, it appears from the article that the sketch may be very "generic" and that might be why they have been holding off its release.

has anyone else heard about this worker prior to this? I would think he/she would have been asked by LE immediately after the crime and LE would canvas nearby areas and businesses including businesses who may have workers around(trash, landscapers, utility company workers, etc.-since many companies has GPS tracking on their vehicles, the businesses could pull up to see who and what vehicle was nearby at the time.

I'm at work looking constantly online for an update on the sketch. I am very eager to see it.

I'm curious as to how he was dressed...running attire, casual street clothes?

If only something unusual in appearance or dress stood out to the worker...

The father's announcement and surrounding publicity that he would like the now cleared "missing jogger" to come forward etc, may have propelled or pressured LE to move forward on the release of a sketch even though it may be a somewhat generic one.

Right behind Spring Creek Park where Karina was found is a place I can't think of the name of it right now at the moment. I circled it in the map below, the worker may be from there or a DOT (department of transportation) worker, working on the Belt Parkway. I'm not sure though what other "worker" would be in the area.

The fact that the worker thought he might get mugged when he saw the man appear out of the weeds is very telling. I doubt this was a jogger... I have been hoping LE would produce a sketch for a while. There's nothing like something visual to prod people's memories. After all, this guy continued on from the weeds.Likely someone (s) else saw him too. Each witness usually remembers another detail, and it all adds up. jmo

Right. And, a sketch just might spur someone to come forward with information, someone who has been reluctant. I still think SOMEONE either knows who did it or is suspicious of their son, boyfriend, brother, friend - but is either in denial or hopeful that it will all just go away. A sketch might give someone courage that they are not alone in fingering someone.

I still haven't completely given up the theory that the perp was more than one person. Perhaps a sketch of one guy will make the other guy come forward to get his story to LE first.

I think his neighbors might have suspicions. jmo

LE must have asked, but I wonder:
On a given day, how many women and men run/walk/bike-ride on that trail, and typically what times are they there.
Are there any other regulars on the trail.
How often did KV run alone and how consistent was she as to time when she would run.
Could a person running on the trail be seen at any point from cars driving along beltway or any other road.
Could a person running be seen from any house, or place in the mall, or from the top of overpass, an open air restaurant (assuming there are such places).

ETA: wonder how often the bike path is used and if KV could be seen from there?

How would he get across Betts creek from where she was found if he did it?

He wouldn't have to cross the creek. He could exit to the bike path on the belt parkway and the worker could have been in that area, not necessarily by the actual work site I had circled.

Not much new, but saw this http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york...eens-jogger-dad-not-subject-article-1.2771602

It does say "generally went running with her dad. But on that evening, her father, a retired city firefighter, begged off" making it appear it was the first time alone ... but still I wonder if it was the first time alone, or had she been running alone for days, etc... I question the writing of the article because it also says "Karina Vetrano was attacked after going out for a run alone hours before she was killed." which I believe should have read Karina Vetrano was attacked after going out for a run alone and killed hours before she was found

The killer choose the closest spot to water to attack.

Besides getting away, isn't water, in some cases of killers, said to be practical and/or ritualistic? Do you think it to be the case here?

Underneath the overpass.

I'm not sure exactly how hot it was on the day she was killed but surely it was damn hot. Wool cap? Makes me wonder.

Makes me wonder too. Karina fought hard - you'd think his cap would've been been pulled off at some point - either by her or by himself when he got hot during the exertion.

Did he toss her things about (headphones, shoe), but then pick up his hat and put it back on? Seems a bit strange, though not impossible.

??

A wool hat in New York in August? Perhaps he didn't want any of his hair left behind as evidence, if he is in fact her killer.

Anyone wearing a wool hat in August in NY would stick out like a sore thumb.
