His square wide jaw, the way it's set, forward like that, for some reason, that stands out to me, about his features. The lips purse down. High cheek bones. Nose may have been broken at some point, but sunken low bridge to his nose. Protruding brow. Small eyes.
Thin neck.

I am not being racist, or anything like that, to be completely clear, but if I had to guess, Nigerian like features, but that's just in a very general way.

He'd rather a wool hat then not, as OldSteve, points out, could be habit and/or practical. Stands out. The dark pants, on a hot day.

hmm, seems younger, the lips seem wrong. The guy from the weeds, see how his jaw and lower lip seem thrust forward, that's different. His jaw is broader, higher cheek bones, more sunken in jawl, older, thinner.

Eyes seem wrong, the neck, the beard, and lips too.

You know, there's something about the weeds guy that looks hungry to me, or strained somehow, the more I look at him. I don't know.

If the weeds guy saw something, could he have possibly headed over to higher ground, just across the water to watch what happens, then left when he saw people looking for her?

What do you mean by using the water to his advantage? As an escape route? Or, to dump the body into?

I'd love to hear a local talk about how far Karina's running route was from the water.

Sorry that my question was not very clear, I meant by dumping the body the in the water; sometimes I hate writing such things which is my question was so vague. Seems odd to me that the killer left Karina to be quite easily found when the water could have hidden her for so much longer.

That is a good eye!! they do have similarities and yes I believe peoples weight can change and the first sketch from 2014 and this is from 2016.

I found this guy who a woman took an actual photograph of in 2011 apparently he groped her is broad daylight on a Block in Jamaica Queens which is not that far from Howard Beach. The guy is younger but it is 2011 and he groped in daylight and height is 5 10.
Someone posted a guy that is 2014 Attempted rape in Morningside Heights and then if its the same guy as the Katrina Scetch it looks like he graduated to murder and rape... just my thoughts http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york...-grins-camera-sexual-assault-article-1.998710

Great find. He looks identical to the sketch in Karina's case. Since this sketch was 2 years ago its quite possible he doesnt weigh as much now.

He was arrested last week. His DNA profile would have lit up the lab like a xmas tree if there was a hit.

Truthfully it's very unlikely that his DNA would have even been entered in CODIS yet. The backlog for rape kits is years and years. They only rush stuff for high profile murders. A rape as awful as it is would just get put in a very long que.

If the cops had reason to suspect this guy they could do direct comparison testing...but for the above case to make it in CODIS will likely take many years.

Your assuming though that the rape victims perps DNA would be entered in the system...and unfortunately it's unlike that it has been at this point. CODIS is backlogged with rape kits for years and years. It's not instant like we all wish it was.

kV's peeps DNA might be in the system cause her case is a high profile murder....however that doesn't mean all the dozens of rapes and attempted rapes that happen in the city on any given day will be though, rape just doesn't take the same priority...rape kits are backlogged years and years....in some cases I've heard as long as a decade!

So it could take years before any rape suspects DNA lights up for a match against Karinas murder, even if the crimes occurred close together.

Other then the fact he can check off the box for being black and male, he looks absolutely nothing like any of the sketches we have seen.

I've seen a lot of people throw around the word evil or pure evil in reference to perps and I have to say it really bothers me.

People are hurt, damaged, confused, disturbed, selfish...but they are not evil. No one is born evil.

Hurt people, hurt people. Period.

When we say they are evil we reduce the act of their crime to something almost supernatural or beyond the human condition. When we do this we do nothing to acknowledge the pieces of our society that cause so much hurt and pain in the first place.

We have to stop dehumanizing people, even those who have made choices to carry out despicable acts. There is always a reason and a path that filled their hearts with so much pain and which led them to cope with this pain by harming others.

I just think we don't help ourselves, the victims, or society when we reduced complex human beings to the single dehumanizing word of evil.

Re NYC having a backlog of rape kits, it does not.

NYC cleared its backlog of approx 17,000 untested kits in 2003.

Unfortunately, this is not the case for all US cities.

The policy in NYC is to test all rape kits put into evidence.
