I went ahead and submitted a tip this morning for whom I believe resembles the sketch. I woke up thinking about it again, rewatched the video, and couldn't shake the feeling. I've seen this man many times as I drive over the bridge and he always wears a baseball cap or wool type hat. I never had an upclose look at him as I drove by so I had to watch the video a few times. I went back and fourth with "should I submit this?" I rather be wrong than not have said anything and possibly could be something.

I don't think it's impossible.
Then I think, would a man who is so distraught by murdered chickens commit such a brutal and violent act against a human?

I think they would. Not that I think it's him.

Since the chicken man is already known to people and to police and they know he lives in that area and other locals recognize him, I'd think they would have spoken to that man very early on in this investigations. He talks in the video about watching people come and go, so I'm sure police talked to him very early on to see if he saw anything.

And if he did see something, he seems like the type that would come forward a long time ago....I mean the guy has a huge heart for poor abused and neglected chickens...I don't see him harming a women or not reporting something he saw.

I also don't really see any resemblance btw the chicken guy and the sketch.

I'm confused? Why would you think someone who is empathetic toward the needs of chickens, not be empathetic towards humans? It seems to me people who believe in the sanctity of life fire a chicken are also going to believe in the sanctity of life for humans.

IF in a confused brain, he's so angry at humans for harming chickens, wouldn't he take it out on the people doing this to the chickens? Not on a young women from a culture that has nothing to do with harm coming to these chickens?

Well I don't think this sketch is right on point either. It's from a witness account who saw it over a month ago and the worker didn't stand there and have a convo with the guy either. So the sketch will not be exactly how the person looks, imo.

He is not known to everyone in the area. A friend of mine who lives right by the Crossbay Blvd Bridge has never seen this man. He comes and goes through the park and he is also seen at the Gateway mall panhandling (as per another friend of mine who when shared the sketch pointed him out) I'm not sure if police questioned him, as he doesn't live in the homeless encampment area LE went to right away. When the Guardian Angels went down there to patrol the area he was not there. He saves chickens yes, but that doesn't mean no one can snap. There's murderers out there who love animals and resucues them, then goes out and kills a person.

I hope it isn't him. But they are asking for tips, being local I have seen him in the area and perhaps my tip will be filed away if they have already ruled him out.

With respect and I don't know you but For the life of me and countless victims who had their own God-given lives, their earthly dwelling cut short because of the most gruesome horrific crimes done by said "hurt" perps, when I say those perpetrators are pure evil, I'm going lightly. Evil isn't supernatural. No good person chooses to be evil. There is a conscience. And quite frankly, if someone is deeply hurt bc of their own experiences in life, and want to take it out on other people's lives, I can't even think of a word that is more further from supernatural. Ghosts are supernatural. Good, evil, joy, suffering, pain, sorrow, love....that's the nature of this material life. You're worried about dehumanizing this monster to society? You can't undo what he's already shown the world he is. His actions spoke volumes. This evil monster was the opposite of Karina. He took away a flourishing light filled with positivity and replaced it with anger grief sadness heartache. He took her earthly life away in the most despicable sickening horrible way. That to me is pure evil. Back on subject, we are all here to unite and see that through her family & friends, Karina had lots of things going for her and led a beautiful life filled with love and adventure and a close family who will stop at nothing. I know I always think of her when I go running now. She's like everyone's running buddy as a guardian angel. Have a great day everyone and always let your loved ones know it ;)

I'm not trying to "sell" my point of view or ideas. I've read articles/books/interviews in which violent (to humans) offenders have expressed empathy and love to animals. IMO it is possible to care for animals and hurt humans. JMO

I don't know if this has been linked, but I believe we've talked about this on the thread:

In an effort to expand DNA searches, police are awaiting the result of “familial” DNA comparisons in an attempt to find out if perhaps partial matches can be found with similar known genetic profiles of relatives of a possible suspect, said a high-ranking investigator. Experts note this kind of genetic law-enforcement searching led in 2010 to the arrest of Lonnie David Franklin Jr., the so called “Grim Sleeper” — so named because of the 13 year gap in the killing of several women in California.

The human condition is far more complicated then that. You said good people don't choose evil....by extension you are saying some people are born not good. That is simply NOT true.

And when people choose to believe such nonesense we bring more harm to society. For every kid that got labeled "the bad one" in school...the teachers the people in his life that chose to see him that way helped enable this man to become the broken adult he was. By labeling him, they gave up on him....be misunderstanding him, they pushed him away further...when people get shunned and pushed away their mind goes to dark places. When a person is female and suffer they tend to turn inward and blame themselves. But when it happens to males they tend to turn the blame outward and on to others.

It is a vicious cycle that starts early in life and needs to be squashed early in life.

If we were more accepting of people differences, if we were more loving then judging, if we sought to know people rather then label them....but NO ONE is born evil.

There is an excellent book on this topic, I HIGHLY recommend it, it's called "The Science of Evil"

It also gets into the aspects of sociopatholigy....and that while some people don't intuitively understand or intuitively have empathy, but most still comprehend, respect, and adhere to a strong moral compass. In other words they still understand right from wrong, even if the don't feel emotion. It's really the convergence of said personality with trauma and lack of support system that leads sociopaths to become criminals.

kV's peeps DNA might be in the system cause her case is a high profile murder....however that doesn't mean all the dozens of rapes and attempted rapes that happen in the city on any given day will be though, rape just doesn't take the same priority...rape kits are backlogged years and years....in some cases I've heard as long as a decade!

So it could take years before any rape suspects DNA lights up for a match against Karinas murder, even if the crimes occurred close together.

I know from personal experience it can take ALOT of years. My step sister was raped and killed. The DNA was entered into CODIS and there was no match until 17 years later when a rape case was finally entered. This girl was raped before my stepsister was killed and thats how long it took. It's crazy

Truthfully it's very unlikely that his DNA would have even been entered in CODIS yet. The backlog for rape kits is years and years. They only rush stuff for high profile murders. A rape as awful as it is would just get put in a very long que.

If the cops had reason to suspect this guy they could do direct comparison testing...but for the above case to make it in CODIS will likely take many years.

Thankfully the backlog in New York and other states is finally being addressed and thousands of kits have been tested- but that doesn't mean this person's DNA has been entered into CODIS.

First, previous crimes may have been committed in a state that still has a backlog.

Here's a great site for tracking status, testing protocol by state, and legislation (this page link is NY specific): http://www.endthebacklog.org/New-York

But secondly, and maybe more importantly, not all DNA from the rape kits get entered into the database. If the victim is discouraged from filing charges, feels emotionally unable handle going to trial, etc. (And there are lots of documented reasons why this would be so- the way rape victims are treated in our system by everyone from the LE taking the report up to the justice system is horrifying) then the results from the kit usually aren't entered into the CODIS.

http://www.nj.com/opinion/index.ssf/2015/08/untested_rape_kits_arent_the_problem.html

"The reality is that, unless the victim agrees to pursue a criminal complaint, nothing is accomplished by testing these rape kits. The FBI's current rules require a criminal report to enter samples into CODIS."

Every serial killer, rapist or deviant criminal was once someone's newborn baby. Remember that.

I do see the similarities with the brow ridge and cheekbones. I don't think it could be the same guy because the DNA would have matched in the system

Maybe they are still waiting for a DNA hit to return? How long does it take to get DNA tested. I read it was 6-7 weeks.

woah...17 years!
I am so sorry. That's NOT acceptable turn around rate.

Yes, its crazy. There were issues apparently with the Houston Crime Lab during that period.

You did the right thing.

It's not a tipsters job to SOLVE the crime and hold back any tips they can't figure out. LE will take care of assessing the tips, ruling them in or out.

Hats just bunch up like that sometimes. Particularly if worn inside out.

Yes, of course. But there is also a specific style that has that little tip at the top.

Whatever the case, I hope the hat triggers someone's memory. The top bump on the hat was significant enough to be noticed.
