I hadn't seen this particular interview before, but PV mentions the machete here: http://nypost.com/2016/11/24/slain-...nksgiving-theres-nothing-for-me-to-celebrate/

A baseball bat would be found in many garages, and would be a logical thing for a man to reach for if going looking for a vulnerable loved one. But when I first read about the machete I imagined he'd taken that as a weapon, not to cut through weeds.

I've seen people from the Caribbean who sell fruit and sugar cane out of trucks around Brooklyn/Queens (and other places) use machetes to cut cane and coconuts. Otherwise It does seem to me to be an unusual thing to own. Not impossible. But I grew up in an Italian neighborhood. Plenty of baseball bats, zero machetes.

Who is Mr V talking about killing? Seems. Very weird to go out with a machete to look for your daughter. A few years ago we had a mentally deranged guy take a machete to a jogger here in Dallas. Sadly the joggers wife committed divide a few weeks after his murder. Just brought that up due to machete- it's an unusual weapon for murder.

Yep. I am here too. I also constantly look for new information. I think at least one of the family members drops by, and I just want them to know that in no way is Karina forgotten here at WS - FWIW!

I check this thread and forum every day, search the new sites, social media. As a runner and a woman, I cannot forget. I hope law enforcement continues to invest manpower into the investigation. When LE announced that they had solved the cold case of the 1995 slaying of runner Maria Isabel Pinto Monteiro Alves, it made me reflect on the similarities between the two murders. Since the beginning, I have thought that it was a random crime, but now I am leaning more toward the perpetrator being someone who frequented Spring Creek Park for drugs or because of homelessness. I hope LE is actively seeking possible leads in area soup kitchens, homeless shelters and other nearby parks where there is drug activity. KV and family deserve resolution.

My dad said he'd rather have a machete over a baseball bat but he was thinking in the case of someone attacking his kid where as he didn't yet know anything happened so I'm leaning towards he had a strong suspect in mind who said or did something maybe even that day causing him to grab it.

In the news article it states that Mr. V. did not know that K. had run along the fire lanes alone before . I wonder how he found out that she had run there alone ? Who would have known this, who would she have told ?

I think he meant prior to that day when she told him she was going running there he didn't know shd had previously gone alone. He told her to be careful and not to go in there alone, but she told him she would be fine and that she had before gone there alone.

I'm sorry but I just don't see it. Why did he automatically think someone had hurt his daughter after a half hour? Why pick up the machete?
Something here is odd.

It is called "listening to your gut" or "your intuition". Mr. V did not know anything except this feeling that his daughter needed him deeply. Maybe her last word was calling out "Dad-dy!"

I admire that Mr. V listened to his heart, his gut and his intuition. Perhaps he does not possess a gun or butcher knife or perhaps he thought he may need to fight off a gang of eight. He just knew his daughter needed him but he was fifteen minutes too late. I can not imagine being too late, by mere minutes, to save my daughter. KVs father did not know how this would end for them. jmho and all that jazz

I agree. I was just wondering if K. had shared with other people that she ran alone along the fire lanes...And also : when did K. start running there alone ?

wondering if this could be a stalker who once he sees his victim he has to have them and stakes them out etc until he makes a move

wondering cuz vanessa marcotte, everyone has mentioned the case similarities but nobody mentioned it due to her NYC ties, maybe he saw her in nyc too and stalked her coming home on some weekends cuz she went home every weekend to MA, and finally had her schedule down and made his move

Whoever did this to KV just disappeared. I wonder if he's still in the area. So many possibilities. He could be in another state by now - far away from the scene of the crime.

Another thought - HB is near an airport. Could the unsub have escaped via plane? Maybe he wasn't from the area after all. Just throwing out random thoughts because the way the perp just vanished bugs me.

This is what is confusing. If she did run alone there on different occasions then it's quite possible someone was laying in wait for her.

However, I understood that this was the first time he didn't run with her and before she left, he told her not to run there.

Razz : According to the last news article ( and what I had heard before ) she had run alone in the fire lanes before. in the article it was mentioned that Mr. V. had not known that she had gone running there alone before the night she was killed. Yes, someone could have observed her running alone, both that evening and on other evenings. jmo

Will he keep his pattern in future killing or target someone not a jogger?

Did she's have a runners app that could make her easy to track run wise?

I looked into this on day one and was unable to find an account on the map my run app. Her account could've been private, she may not have had one OR she could have used a different app/interface all together.

ETA: I went as far as to search into recorded routes in the specific area Karina ran that day. I was unable to find anyone who ran inside the weeds there. All the routes I found were NOT inside that particular area but along the roads only.

Not sure if anyone else has looked into it and came up with anything different. I haven't looked in some time so there could very well be someone who has run/walked in there recently and recorded the route. However I don't think anyone would want to go in there after what happened to Karina.

My whole point of this was that I was trying to see if there were other frequent runners there.
