In September of 2018, culinary school graduate Kassandra Ramirez was living with a cousin in the Bronx borough of New York City, , according to her mother Ingrid Santana. Ingrid, who was living in Wyoming at the time, said she came to town to visit her daughter in New York.

Ingrid said that Kassandra, 25, spent September 17 with her younger sister, Rhianna. When they came home that evening, she told me she was starting a new job on Friday,” Ingrid added. “I told her I was going to see what I could do about moving [to New York], so she didn’t have to stay in anyone else’s home. I wanted her to be with me.”

Kassandra left that night after making plans to see her again on Saturday, September, 22, for Ingrid’s birthday. Ingrid told Dateline she didn’t expect to hear from her daughter until then.

Two days later on September 19, Kassandra left the home she was staying at around 11:40 p.m. Kassandra’s cousin would later tell Ingrid that Kassandra said she was going to meet up with an ex-boyfriend.

“She told her cousin that [the ex-boyfriend] was downstairs and if it got too late, she would come back home in the morning,” Ingrid said. “The surveillance camera shows her coming downstairs, helping an elderly lady with groceries, and turning left, placing her at Melrose Avenue and East 161 Street.”

Kassandra Ramirez is described as being 5'2" tall and weighing 130 pounds with dark hair. She was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, blue jeans and black sneakers.

Family continues search for woman last seen in September

Santana says the aunt told her that Ramirez had called her to let her know that she met up with a man she used to date, and that the two were arguing.

Santana says she has been in constant contact with police, who told her they have attempted to monitor cellphone pings, hospital check-ins and social media activity.

Police would not say if they suspect foul play.

She was reported missing to the NYPD on September 22. Authorities worked to track Kassandra’s phone and computer for any leads on where she might be, but were unable to locate her.

The New York Police Department confirmed to Dateline in December 2018 that they have spoken with the man Kassandra told her cousin she was going to go see, but would not comment further. They also declined to comment on whether foul play is suspected in Kassandra’s disappearance. Kassandra is described as being 5'2" tall and weighing 130 pounds with dark hair. Bump for Kassie. I just listened to her mom on Unfound podcast, and this young lady had experienced so many horrors in her short life (brutal stabbing, a rape, loss of a child--all before going missing). Very heartbreaking.

Additional details - her mom stated only a week before she went missing, she'd testified before a grand jury and her rapist was indicted on 7 felonies for her attack. Mom also stated the rapist's sister had made derogatory posts after Kassie went missing, and the rapist's case was dropped as a result of her going missing. Very suspicious.

O'Brien is considered a person of interest in Ramirez's disappearance. He provided conflicting stories about her disappearance. Once he said she had not shown up for their meeting, and another time he claimed he'd dropped her off at the Hunter's Point train station in the New York City borough of Queens, but there was no evidence to support this account. He has dropped out of sight; the police do not know his current whereabouts.

Just a week before Ramirez went missing, she testified before a grand jury about a rape she'd endured. A suspect was indicted on seven felony charges as a result of the attack, but after Ramirez went missing the case was dropped. It's unclear whether the rape case had anything to do with her disappearance.

Ramirez's case remains unsolved. She is considered missing under suspicious circumstances.
