GUILTY NY - Kelly Owen, 27, found strangled in parent's Long Island home, 16 Jan 2020 *Arrest*

Wonder if there were signs of sexual assault or indications that she fought with the person who strangled her.

Does LE usually indicate this early on?

Police looking for suspects after 27-year-old mother found strangled to death in bed

SABBM:

"We looked at the house," said Nassau Homicide Chief Det. Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick. "There's no obvious signs of a break-in. We've scoured the area. We're looking into her past, anyone who knows her."

Kelly lives with her parents and brother. They came to the door in obvious distress and soon drove off, neighbors said, to meet again with Nassau detectives.

Does the fact that her parents and brother were going to meet with detectives vs. the detectives coming to the house to meet w/ them indicate LE was going to be conducting formal interviews, or is it just standard procedure for LE to have family members meet w/ them outside the home?

Living in the the same town, I would hope they would announce a sexual predator on the loose. Maybe they are playing close to the vest for a reason.

The same precinct is dealing with two major crimes with no supposed suspects within a day. My guess is that Kelly’s murder will be solved before the drive by shooting.

Is it a little strange we haven't heard from the father of her child yet? Also on social media (which I know we can't discuss) people seem to be very upset and loved her very much but there's no outrage about finding who did this. I wonder if her previous relationship had a history of domestic violence.

From reading the above I'm thinking the neighbors came to the Owen's door (not police) and saw they were distressed. The reason they may have been distressed is imo because detectives requested they come to the precinct to answer questions...again.

No forced entry! So a door was left unlocked. Was she sleeping when someone came in? A disturbed person roaming the neighborhood? What about her child's father? Someone stalking her? I surmise her family must know who it is by now.

I’m not so sure the family knows by now, but I’d imagine LE already has several POI’s at this point (combing her SM and figuring out personal contacts and relationships). Strangulation is usually a COD that is considered personal and done when the perp knows the victim.

A door wouldn’t necessarily have to have been left unlocked. She could have voluntarily let the perp in- perhaps a friend coming over to study, to have coffee, or a love interest. The fact she was found in her bed makes me think it was the latter. But there are several plausible scenarios. Her body could have been moved, as I don’t believe LE have commented on that yet.

I am very surprised by the lack of media chat about her murder. The family, friends and neighbors seem very close lipped. I have found her ex last known address is a 45 min drive but that could be old. Praying they find justice. I'm going to assume they have an inkling as to whom they are looking for.. or it wouldn't be this quiet!

So no one is asking for help to find who killed her?

You must be a far better sluther than myself I've been trying to find information like that and have not been successful.. crime scene investigators were searching the woods off bethpage parkway yesterday could be completely unrelated. I still have my suspicions about the homicide in Plainview being related but no facts to back it up

LE has put out an appeal for information, and Crimestoppers is offering a $$$ reward for tips.

But if what you're asking is whether or not her family has asked the public for assistance, I haven't come across any MSM articles where her family has asked the public for information to help LE find KO's killer.

That may change with time…we'll see.

I am curious. Can you discuss why you think they are related?

Crimes in all towns worldwide are committed every day. The murders of 2 27 year olds one from farmingdale and the other Plainview is highly unusual. About a day apart. Could be road rage could be some guy with having a bad day. Could be a jealous boyfriend we just don't know. I have not been able to find anything to show that ko and jg even knew each other.

Thanks for sharing. The crimes were so different in cod, I guess I am just assuming coincidence that they are the same age and died a day apart. I did wonder if JG murder was related to two drive by shootings in Bayshore the same evening. I hope there is swift justice for them both.

@Sixcats1, what kind of crime do you typically see in your area? 2 major crimes in a short period had to be rough for area residents IMO. Is this kind of thing typical?

Does anyone local have a suggestion on searching the Nassau County Family Court records online? There seem to be 4 Districts and its all quite a maze.

Was curious if there was a protective order in place and if the divorce was finalised or if there were any ongoing custody issues still kicking around in court?

The crime scene description by LE simply seemed strange for lack of a better description and almost as if the victim might have known the perp.

How many children does she have? Wonder how long she’s lived with her parents? Perhaps she moved out of a bad living situation? Hope the neighbors cameras tell a story. MOO
