How many children does she have? Wonder how long she’s lived with her parents? Perhaps she moved out of a bad living situation? Hope the neighbors cameras tell a story. MOO

She appears to have 1 daughter. Tragic situation. I do wonder whether the victims house or neighbours houses had security or Ring footage?

Has Nassau PD put out a blast request to residents for camera footage as we have seen done in other crimes? I keep looking at the social media for NPD and haven't seen much in the way of engagement commentary with the community on this sad case and I wonder why this hasn't happened?

@Sixcats1, what kind of crime do you typically see in your area? 2 major crimes in a short period had to be rough for area residents IMO. Is this kind of thing typical?

It isn’t that the crime itself is shocking, it is the towns involved. For two mostly safe towns to have violent crimes so close together is unusual. Over the years (50ish), there have been maybe three that stood out to me. A man killed in a real estate office, a couple that held a child and were involved in pedophilia, and a beheading and suicide that involved a mother and son. also the body of a child was found buried in a yard.
The most typical crime is people breaking into cars overnight, porch bandits and drug sale offenders. Maybe Long Island is just turning, I know that I would happily move if we could.

I hope it doesn’t keep getting worse. I definitely see a huge difference in traffic and overcrowding. There have been a few huge drug busts in the past few years. Lots of store robberies with guns across the Island lately also.

That's sad. And I hear you about the traffic. Coming from New Jersey when we visit...I've never experienced traffic like that, practically the entire trip out and back. When I visit by myself, I take the train from Penn Station.

On Friday, police were still patrolling the block, as friends and relatives came to pay their respects. Owen was so well-liked but her relatives placed a 'no trespassing' sign out front today, telling reporters to leave, and calling her death 'a family tragedy.'

Nassau County Police called her death a murder - the Medical Examiner said the evidence shows she died from asphyxiation.

"This has now become a criminal homicide investigation, and we're looking into it," said Nassau County Police Det. Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick, "We looked at the house. There's no obvious signs of break-in. We scoured the area. We're looking into her past, or anybody that knows her."

Family court records are confidential and are not available online. You can only look them up by case number, not by name. Divorces cases are in civil court in NYS (Called NYS Supreme).

@Alethea, thank you! Wish we knew more about the victim and sadly the Press hasn't seemed to find out anything about the murder victim.

Area crime stats don't show much violent crime of this nature either. Perhaps she knew the perp as LE didn't release much about the crime scene.

Reminds me of the Carolyn Byington murder last June, which also occurred in her home and which did not involve much of a peep from family members. Family had nothing to do with the murder, however, and the killer was a married co-worker who had been stalking her.

The family could be too shocked and traumatized to say or do anything at this point... It's just horrible.

I do find it surprising that LE says they have no leads. Again, in the Carolyn Byington case, it seemed LE wasn't doing much of anything and was completely clueless, when suddenly an arrest was made. I'm guessing LE knows more than what they are letting on in this case too.

Personally I feel the killer was known to her. The lack of signs of a break in are why I feel that way. She was found in her bed so the person could have been let in and there was a sexual assault. It’s also possible it was a student she went to school with. They would know she was home during break and if they were friends, they may know her schedule and routine. Whoever it was had to have known she was alone when they came over.

I wonder if they normally kept the door locked during the day.
If not, anyone could have walked right in and committed the crime.

I hope the neighbors surveillance footage reveals something helpful.
Maybe LE has been quiet because they are so busy pouring over video evidence and interviewing those closest to the victim and following up on leads.
