Deputies are looking for Leroy Newswanger, 36, and his 17-month-old son Glenn David Newswanger. The two were last seen by family on their farm on State Route 245 in the hamlet of Stanley, Ontario County, at 11 a.m. Thursday. Deputies say the duo was then spotted about an hour later in Lyons National Bank in Penn Yan, Yates County, as Leroy Newswanger withdrew about $300 in cash.
Leroy has an extensive mental health history, and that he may be upset over an issue regarding the federal government that he wanted to take up in Washington D.C. in person. Newswanger has no history of domestic violence, and there's no indication that he's homicidal or suicidal.
Glenn, who weighs 25 pounds and is approximately two feet tall, currently has hand, foot and mouth disease, and has blisters around his mouth. He was last seen wearing tan pants, black sneakers, plaid shirt and a navy winter coat.
Leroy was last seen in a maroon button-down shirt and was driving a 2005 blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup with a blue cap over the bed and New York registration 88359MJ.
Leroy, who is a member of the Mennonite community, completed chores at the family farm before leaving, filled his vehicle's gas tank, and took a radio and a diaper bag with him, he said. Police are unsure whether Newswanger has a cell phone. He lived on the farm with his wife and nine children, of which Glenn Newswanger was the youngest.
