Syracuse, N.Y. — Former doctor Robert Neulander arrived at the Onondaga County Courthouse this morning for the start of his second trial in the death of his wife Leslie Neulander.

3/2/22 Wednesday, Trial Day 1: Judge Thomas Miller addresses the family of Robert Neulander. He gives them a warning that graphic, bloody evidence will be shown this morning - he is urging them to leave if they cannot handle this, as he does not want the jury to see any emotional displays that could impact their judgment of the case. "I do not want this jury influenced in any way by anyone by any emotional display," Miller said. Judge Miller is explaining how the evidence process works to the jury. Opening statements by District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick & by defense attorney Jonathan Bach.
The prosecution began by playing the 911 call from Jenna Neulander on 9/17/12, the day Leslie Neulander was found dead.
State witnesses: Former Dewitt Fire Dept. Lt. William McGarrity; responded to 911 call in supervisor role. Lt. James Pienkowski, another first responder - a Lt. with the Dewitt Fire Dept. at the time. Dewitt Fire Lt. Valerie Flemming. She is the third first responder.

Crucial Witness: Neulander housekeeper takes stand with bed sheets at center of questions

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — For over an hour on Thursday, the Neulanders' housekeeper, a crucial witness, was on the stand during the second murder trial of Robert Neulander, who stands accused of murdering his wife in 2012.

Bozana Smith testified on the fourth day of the Neulander trial, just as she did in 2015, that the sheets she saw on the bed the day Leslie died were not the ones she put on the couple’s bed the Friday before.

Smith described arriving at the Neulander’s house in DeWitt on the morning Leslie died in September 2012.

Smith testified that she used to work five days a week at the Neulanders' house; her duties in the master bedroom included fixing the bed, cleaning the bathroom, and making the bed every day during the workweek.

The Nuelanders' former housekeeper specifically noted the pear sheets on the bed in evidence photos of the bedroom, saying the pears were upside down; different than how she usually puts on those sheets.

3/4/22 Friday, Trial Day 3: State witnesses: State Former Onondaga County Medical Examiner Dr. Robert Stoppacher.
Stoppacher initially ruled Leslie’s manner of death an accident. One reason for that was the bruising pattern on Leslie’s brain. But after more information about the scene was discovered—including blood on the headboard — his consultation with another expert, Stoppacher testified, he began to consider a blow to the head as the cause of the bruising — specifically a fall-like blow. With the new information, Stoppacher changed the manner of death to a homicide. Also testified that he believed Leslie had died three to six hours prior to the arrival of police.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden.
He believed the time of death was at 3a.m. that day — an opinion made on the basis of rigor mortis to Leslie’s jaw, the nature of her blood at the time she was found & undigested food in her stomach. He also testified that the contrecoup bruising was caused by multiple blows to the head while she was lying still. Baden clarified that in his opinion, there were multiple blows to the right area of the brain because of multiple fractures on that side of the skull & injuries below it.
