I really don't think SCPD is taking this case seriously at all. I made a tip 2 weeks ago and there has been absolutely no indication that it was followed-up. I think I am going to turn it over to the FBI. Or maybe the private investigator for SG's disappearance.

Don't be discouraged by the lack of response Goathair ... i submitted a tip in a Canadian case a couple of years ago and while i did not ever hear a peep back from LE, the activity that took place within 2 days of my tip could ONLY have been related to the info i provided.

LE isn't in the habit of sharing ;)

I'd be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. We have no idea how many tips and leads they have to follow up on. I think it's more believable that they are inundated with work than it is that they don't care about a serial killer in their community.

It seems like in all these kinds of cases LE gets flack.

Then again, how juicy was your tip?

Just read a book on the Green River Killer, speaking of a case that took forever to solve. There seems to be some correlation between this guy and Ridgeway. The killing of prostitutes and having designated "dump sites", offering more money than the usual John (what does it matter, they're not going to pay their victims anyway), strangulation, etc.

Ridgeway grew up dominated by his mother, who he hated. He also felt a great deal of shame over his being sexually attracted to her. Ma Ridgeway seems not to have set such a great precedent for Gary's future relationships with women. I bet the LISK has a similar such relationship with his mother or whoever was the primary female figure of his childhood. Too afraid to stand up to whomever it was that made him hate women, he kills women that he thinks of as throwaways as a symbolic gesture.

Uh oh, I'm beginning to sound like an armchair psychologist...

This could be a generalization, but my impression has always been that the FBI only becomes involved if it is a crime that is known to cross state lines, or if they are specifically asked by the lead agency.

I took "I know where you be at..." as the pimp paraphrasing what was said and not necessarily giving a direct quote.

I tend to agree with you Sistah. I'm not sure we know what Terry's ethnicity is. I can see the perp saying "Hey Bud, I know where you live" and someone relating that in a conversational tone as "I know where you be at".

I'm around my grandkids on a daily basis, and the way I talk now (ahem) is entirely different than how I may have talked years ago. Ain't true that you can't teach an old dog new tricks ;)

I thought the FBI was already involved here at the request of the Suffolk County Police?

IMO we need some new news on the case. It's been almost totally silent for months now. In fact, I can't even remember the last time Newsday, the LI Press, or News12 brought up the killings. Were approaching the one year anniversary of the first bodies being discovered.

<rsbm>

Could well be WI. We know that the FBI assisted with some resources (high tech aerial photography, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft) ... just not sure what their role might be in the overall investigation subsequent to that specific aid in the search for bodies.

Anyone have a link to more recent FBI involvement?

You know, in the old days Chicago cops used to "solve" cases by beating a confession out of their suspects. Couldn't the SCPD just grab somebody who seems like a possible suspect and give them a sustained beating until the confess? Case solved!

I feel like it would be disingenuous if I didn't point out that this idea isn't foolproof.

Minazoe,

Just that it doesn't appear that they will be able to solve it.
Im beginning to feel that same way. That does not mean however that the police should just give up, most importantly they also need to keep this case in the public eye.

We have 10 sets of bodies killed by 3-4 people. Too many different timelines, the police can't even ID half the bodies. Some of the bodies have been there for over a decade leaving very little evidence. I have several friends who are SCPD officers (not giving out ranks or assignments) and they have stated that this case will be very, very difficult to solve.

One thing that I don't understand is why havent we found more bodies?

this guy is out there ...somehow today I had a feeling of him just out driving around...looking for a random girl...avoiding Craigslist, finding a girl on the street....maybe testing the water.

he is also probably on a high right now because he is famous and this may be enough for him for awhile, to be able to revel in his accomplishments.

but I have a feeling of him spending hours in his car.

circling .

What drew me to this case was a series a vivid nightmares I had in the last few months of 2010. They featured the distinct landscape of where the bodies were found. I do not live anywhere near there nor have I ever visited this place. I dreamt of a white utility vehicle and two men. I also saw multiple women's bodies floating in muddy water.
I dreamt to of police finding the remains. I found out about this case by internet search and was shocked when I saw the landscape because I had seen it in my dreams.
I hope that police are still doing everything they can to they can to find who is responsible as soon as possible.

truthie, second time I have read the first article...it's either very poorly written and concieved , or I am just not getting the use of the word had and the desire for food and the hypnotic detachment.

it's not very clear what they are talking about to me.....

the second article ROCKS>

people I have met in my life that set off bells in my head were super charming, and delightfully funny...yet it was something like a gloss, or a locked panel...you just felt that even if you were reacting to them favorably, laughing , joking...getting it....

there seems a wall there..its like you are unnecessary and only there as a prop. The fun is all a distraction....there is someone dead serious lurking underneath.

yup, some software scanning facebook or the net for speech patterns to detect psychopaths is pretty f@#$n scary... it brings to mind Nietzsche, "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster". I would have no problem using such techniques (if they were proven to work with some level of confidence) on the speech of a suspect or poi (about as useful as a poly), I just don't think parsing all the speech in the universe in an effort to enact a policy of cleansing the world of people with odd speech patterns will improve man's situation on earth.

I did have to go back and re-read you know who's letters to 48 hrs.

I don't think they are "parsing all the speech in the universe" ... presumably they would have fairly specific people in mind and would be monitoring those individuals.

WRT your last statement, the following jumped out at me from the article:

One thing almost all of the serial killers he's interviewed have in common is a desire to convince him that they're good people at heart, touting their musical or artistic talents or all the good things they've done in life, Samenow said.

"I remember one guy who said, 'Well, just because I killed somebody doesn't make me a bad person,'" Samenow said.

So, yeah ;)
