(WABC) -- Investigators have discovered more remains at Oak Beach on Long Island. Sources tell Eyewitness News that searchers located what are believed to be the remains of a fifth victim of the suspected serial killer who has dumped bodies along Ocean Parkway.
The remains were found roughly one half mile east of where the four others were discovered along the westbound lanes of Ocean Parkway between Oak Beach and Gilgo Beach.

its snow on the ground still. it's still cold in ny, we certainly aren't having an early spring. there are some areas where the ice hasn't melted, and now the forecast for a supposed snow/rain mix to come ugh.


in the gallery part of that article, the photo depicting the markers for where the 4 victims were found looks very exact. the killer must have used mile markers to space them apart from one another. this in itself is interesting... it seems very orderly and organized. i wonder if they are exactly spaced 500 yards apart from one another?
does new york state always post road markers every 1/4th mile apart on the major highways? would this have been how the killer knew how to dump the girls according to where he previously had dumped some?

it's a different "dumping" method than piling victims into a mass grave, or randomly in the same area. this killer seems to be obsessed with exactness.

if it's the case that sg is a victim and jb is a possible interest, i doubt he would put her so close to his house after there were so many witnesses to sg making a scene that night.
also this killer has dumped each victim either exactly or almost 500 yards apart. someone so obsessed with numbers and distance... well maybe he has another burial area?

the killer seems to almost have been killing once a year, aside from 2008

melissa barthelemy was last seen july 12, 2009 4'11 95lbs 24 yrs
*shannon gilbert went missing may 1, 2010 5'7 ? 24 yrs
megan waterman went missing june 6, 2010 5'5 150lbs 22 yrs
*elena jazmir lozada missing since july 6, 2010 5'2 105lbs 24 yrs
amber lynn costello was last seen sept 2, 2010 4'11 100lbs 27yrs



shannon gilbert went missing may 1, 2010 (her parents filed a report on may 4th)

he's killed twice in 2010, possibly 3 times if sg is one of his victims.
either he has more bodies that we aren't aware of, or his killing has escalated for whatever reason. the girls all went missing in warmer, summer months. why doesn't he kill during the non-summer months? if he does where is his other burial grounds?

elena jazmir lozada, 24 yrs, 5'2 and 105-115lbs who also advertised her services on craigslist, who has been missing since july 6, 2010.

elena lived 10 miles away from megan waterman in maine.
obviously these girls travel for their services, imo i wouldn't rule out elena as a possible victim of the killer.

imo, i think that elena really may be one of his victims, she does fit the profile and went missing during the summer months.

having added shannon and elena into the list above, their ages are similiar or the same to the others, elena fits into the height and weight pattern of the other girls. i'm not sure on shannon gilbert's weight, from pictures she looks to be of normal weight range.
however we know the killer has deviated from his pattern, by waterman who was 5'5 and 150lbs.

wow! omg, i hope they keep digging, if it's not shannon, it might be elena...
we really don't know how many victims this guy has! i can't wait until the give us more info.

rifkin makes a point that this killer is stupid to dump all his bodies in one place. rifkin brags about himself having dumped his victims 100s of miles apart (3 of which were never found).

is it obsessive compulsiveness that the killer dumps the victims 1/4th mile away from eachother? does he live that near where he can see the dumpsite and relive it?

was the strip where he dumped them on gilgo the only area he was familiar with to dump victims, so he chose it and stuck to it?

also what i find odd is that the paper actually interviewed a locked up serial killer about the current l.i. murders. does anyone else find this odd? in the longest time we really don't hear much about serial killers in general, maybe as the feds and le don't want to give some the attention they crave through the media.

yet in this case, joel rifkin has gave interviews expressing his disapproval of this new killer's tactics; and also getting a chance to boast himself in the papers.

i'm sure le and the feds are pretty clear on who the killer is, they are holding their cards tightly. i agree with those who've said more media info= le needs info and tips.
in this case there's not been that much from the media, le must already know enough.

what i do wonder if how rifkin was granted all these interviews, and not just due to his being a former l.i. serial killer...

more about the recent 5th discovery. shannon has a metal in her jaw so they should be able to tell if it's her or not quickly i believe.

i feel bad for all the families of these girls, however i do have faith that le will solve this.
shannon's family is from ellenville, it's a small town upstate. i used to have a friend who lived up there. it's devastating to the families..

this article is very very interesting about shannon gilbert and the 911 call that night!

"Gilbert's family did not hear the 911 calls themselves, but say detectives told them about it and that Shannon, who was working as a prostitute, named her attacker.

The family says it was someone she knew.

"I am worried about if she suffered," Mari Gilbert said.

Gilbert's family says on that night Shannon met with a man she met on Craigslist.

They say police have talked to the man and he has taken a lie detector test.

this is very interesting, from the link above

"Police said the first 911 call made by Gilbert was placed from the house of Joseph Brewer, 46, who was her contact through Craigslist. Police have since eliminated Brewer as a suspect."

if brewer is cleared as a suspect, then the reason that shannon didn't want to leave his house is because of the asian in the suv out there. she really feared for her life...

her family should sue, it took 45 minutes for police to get to her, when she was calling 911 and at least on the phone with 911 for 21 minutes!

what is more disturbing is this:

"A couple of weeks after her disappearance, Gilbert's sisters, Sarra and Sherre Gilbert, traveled from upstate Ellenville to investigate on their own. They talked to Brewer and neighbors, walked along the roads and even found one of Gilbert's earrings."

shannon's sisters are the ones to find one of her earrings??? why didn't le find this?

was the truck/suv that shannon got pulled into before le could get there the same one the neighbor seen with the asian?

everything of that last night of shannon's life seems to not make sense. is jb really cleared? who is the asian exactly and why not release his name? i'm sure jb didn't want his name released either.

I agree. I would think they would be able to tell right away if it was Shannan or not, since she had the metal implant..I dont know.
But they put her face all over the news before they realized it wasn't her the first time around. Would they do that again, unless they had good reason to believe it was her?

It's still way to Cold below average Cold to do a good search. Add the Ocean and Wind. They must have had a Date in their minds. Next Month should be better, May really.
I read that Rifkin Quote, I guess it means something besides the obvious. Maybe LE will release more information now. If they really don't have a Suspect, they should.

It sounds to me like LE may be close to having a suspect considering Shannon's 20 minute 911 call along with the neighbor seeing the Asian man.

Shannon sure is a beauty! The pure HE!! she went thru that night makes me sick to my stomach!

Does anyone know if there is a map of where this body was located in relation to the other 4 girls bodies? I am having difficulty bringing up links, darnit! TIA (thanks in advance

WM, I haven't found a map yet but some of the papers are reporting that the remains were found a half a mile east of the first dump area, on Cedar Beach-- near Oak Beach. As always, we can't fully trust the initial media reports as they seem to often get the details wrong.

The killer is clearly very comfortable in that area. I hope this is the last victim. Will be keeping a close eye on the news reports today.
