New York police are searching for a man accused of forcefully shoving a stranger onto subway tracks in Brooklyn.

The alleged assault happened at 2:40 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Wyckoff and Myrtle avenues subway station.

Police say an unidentified man was standing on the northbound platform and intentionally, without being provoked, charged at a 32-year-old man who was walking by, showing him onto the subway tracks. The victim was not struck by the train but did sustain physical injuries as a result of this assault.

I am pretty sure that the perpetrator is athletic and could well have played football before.

Once the perpetrator commits to the attack, he accelerates fully until he strikes the victim with his whole body. The perpetrator does not rush towards him, instinctually pull up short, then push with both hands extended.

Though the perpetrator struck the victim fully, he controls his own momentum and does need to make additional steps in the victim's direction to regain his balance.

Sentenced to 20 + 10 years for attempted murder and robbery but seems he only served 10 years before being paroled in 2010.

If only New York would actually punish criminals like this and not just let them out every chance they get. Its as if the people in power perhaps want this to be happening (people being terrorized by criminals)

You couldn't pay me to live in NYC. Or even to visit. I know that the news always makes everything seem so bad...but really?! It seems like random acts of violence are an everyday occurrence in NYC now.

I am visiting NYC next week with my family and have always enjoyed visiting, especially in the fall.

Yet, I need to keep stifling feelings of dread regarding this coming trip and also need to stifle feelings that it should be our last trip there.

As you stated, what makes NYC violence different from my city is the random nature of it and the fact that it is not confined to obvious "bad news" places. Rather, it can spread/ occur via the subways that everyone must use. I really think its the subways that give NYC violence its random characteristic when the city slumps.

For example, in my city, I live 3 minutes by car from an open air sex mart / drug bazaar centered on about about two blocks. But with no need to use subways, it might as well be on the far side of the moon once one knows to avoid the area at night.

I think that just being aware of your surroundings is a huge bonus. No casually checking your cellphone. You are in a "war zone". Stay vigilant.

I am sure that you will have a great trip. Enjoy. Just stay focused.
