However, it doesn't mean he is of English origin. Also, it doesn't mean he is Protestant or Anglican

If the guy is Jewish, he inherits Jewish religion by his mother.
He might also not even use his Jewish first name.
Secular Jews don't necessarily have Jewish surnames and/or preferred first name.

Does Pitney sound abbreviated/americanized to you? My ex-h's last name was Russian Jew and truncated, ended with -sky. Didn't have too much luck chasing that idea with Pitney. I ended up with Slovenia with no further clues or British (place name).

A possibility to be americanized, yes. Truncated, I am much less confident. The above post gives you a link about Pitney's etymology, so I was a bit luckier.

Also, have a look at post #4 and follow the link. You'll understand much better what I mean.

I strongly doubt he was an Ashkenazi Jew.

The problem is that Mr Pitney's wherabouts in NYC were well documented until 1969.

Way too old for the draft, and he is way too old for being our IUD. I don't put much weight for the height being wrong, but his age is the major issue.
37 in 1967, so 47 in 1977 and 87 in 2017 : the real inconsistency here.

Also, there are too many differences. UID had a rounder face, MP has an ovale face.
Eyes are bigger in UID than MP.

The Canada Border Services Agency provided the information to NAMUS. The following is from the NAMUS page where you can click on "Circumstances" on the left side of the page:

On August 2nd, 1969, this unidentified man, who appears to be approximately 18 to 25 years of age and may have Hispanic roots or origins, left from New York City by Napierville Junction RR train no. 9 and arrived in Canada at Montreal, Quebec. Prior to leaving New York, he had reported to the draft board on Broadway and 52nd and they had directed him to report to Fort Dix, New Jersey. That is when he decided to flee to Canada. On August 5th, 1969, he attempted to return to the U.S. when the U.S. Immigration at Champlain, New York State refused him re-entry because he was unable to convince him he was born and raised in New York City. He claims he was born at home with birth never registered with the state. Sent back to Canada, he subsequently settled in the Toronto, Ontario, Canada area and has remained since while attempts to verify / establish his true identity and verify his New York City birthplace continue. We know this subject was present in New York City for many years well documented from at least 1960 to 1969, and claims he was born in Manhattan where he spent his youth. Prior to leaving New York, he claims he spent a lot of time in the area of 3rd Avenue and 47th or 48th Street and may have attended the Greek Orthodox Church on 24th street between 8th and 9th Avenues. We have very strong reason to believe he had and likely still has family in the U.S. and possibly in the New York City area where he claimed to have lived with his parents and sibling(s) prior to August 1969. His father may have been a seaman. This Agency is seeking the aid of the public in assisting us to positively establish his true identity and nationality and locate his family members, ideally.

Looks like he is being held by Canadian immigration who believe his American credentials are false and they want to find out who he really is. He has refused to cooperate. He is obviously a wanted man and we should be looking at fugitive lists from that time? Possible?

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is requesting the public's assistance in identifying an individual currently being held under immigration detention. The individual has been found inadmissible to Canada and is currently detained under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act as a potential flight risk and is unwilling to provide information to his true identity.

The CBSA investigation indicates that he entered Canada on August 2, 1969 at Montréal via the Napierville Junction Rail Road train no. 9. The train's departure location was New York City and it is believed that the individual could have family in New York or the United States. Since his arrival he has claimed (and continues to claim) that he migrated to Canada to evade the military draft.

The individual appears to be over the age of 65.
