OMG. All these years and I never connected her dates with the blizzard of '88. The east coast was paralyzed. But I don't recall that New York and New England got very much snow from it.

I was in college and don't remember that blizzard. That time in my life is a bit of a blur. :rolling:

That would certainly make it memorable.

I posted fliers on Carleton and in the surrounding areas today (East 7th Ave., South Columbus, Fulton Lane) and also in the center of town (near City Hall, police dept. etc). The flier was previously approved by Det. DiMase, I just didn't get around to it till today. I let him know what I was up to lol. I am now very sunburned, but it was worth it. Spoke to some locals about the case as well, so it was a good opportunity to engage with the community about this. Two people insisted she looked familiar but they couldn't offer anything else :(

The Olympics reminder gave me an idea.
Could she have been an athlete from behind the Iron Curtain that tried to defect but got caught? If she were a figure skater that might explain her grooming, and if she were trying to seek asylum, her country of origin might not have reported her missing to save face.

You are more than welcome. Isn't that photo so much more realistic? She truly was beautiful. You can really see the proper color of her hair here as well.
George Ossipo posted it on his LinkedIn page so I was able to share it. Det. DiMase did not have a problem with me making it public. I have no idea why they didn't make it public to begin with.

They should've made it public from the get-go...it really changes her appearance. She was so pretty. Thanks so much to Jess for putting up the pic.

Thank you so much, Jess. It's so great of you to put so much personal time + energy to this case.

It is totally worth it. Plus I get to work with the most handsome detective ever! ;) Seriously, we ARE going to make some kind of break in her case this year. I can feel it!

Thank you Jess! This is sooo important. Sending you air hugs and kisses :). Is it possible somehow to upload that poster here too? I am really curious to see it and on FB page I just can't zoom enough to read what is written on it. Also once uploaded, we would spread it online too.

I see you have mentioned possible perp on FB... For some reason I still strongly feel (just my opinion though) that he had connection there, in industrial place. Also all those businesses there are male orientated (trucks, waste removal etc) with lots of man coming in and out.

Building number 10 - I did not want to elaborate previously on it, but only logical explanation in my mind how that number could be connected is that person who located MVJD was from that building. It was not and could not be a typo when released, it could be leaked information though. That must have been very traumatic discovery, whoever located MVJD and surely there must have been big discussions about it in surrounding businesses. Gossip and leads could come from old timers there, but that for LE to explore.

I still can't locate any mention of her discovery in any NY news at the time. Yes, there was storm with calamities and many dead in Westchester, there was another brutal slaying of 13 year old girl on the same day (Christine Ann Diefenbach), there was mob wedding on 14th in Queens and moved to that day only because it was Junior Gotti birthday (how thoughtful) and he had attended too, and there was shooting of MV policeman a week later which was huge news. But would not they mention murder discovery of unknown girl at least in local news? Maybe I am not digging enough, or not right newspapers, will try again.

Here is the album Jess made for the PM photos on the Mount Vernon - NY Jane Doe - FB Page. Gives everyone a better idea of what she really looked like - POST-MORTEM PICS ***WARNING***

So glad you had time to do this! I hope they stay up. Don't be surprised if someone rips them down.

I think so too! I think this is her year to have her name back!

I couldn't find a Charley page for her.
I wasn't successful in finding a doe page for her, either.

I see both the Tina and MVJD have fingerprints available. Do they run them the same way they check DNA and dental?

:offtopic: Dumb hypothetical question: will a large scar on a finger ridge affect fingerprinting if it's obtained after the person in question has disappeared? For example, say a woman went missing, slashed her finger open with a knife, and the scar never fully healed before she died some time later. Her fingerprints were taken. Would having the large scar not make a fingerprint match? I don't know how any of this works...

Also, say a person has had to have their finger reattached. (Sounds ridiculous, but I know of some kids that went to their shop classes completely stoned and somehow managed to saw off parts of their fingers ((????)).) I would assume they would be able to determine that it had been reattached very easily, but could they trace what kind of facility performed the reattachment process?

Excuse me, I'm exhausted and just bursting with stupid questions today. :blushing:

They aren'tstupid questions at all. They're great questions and I don't know the answer.

I found a ton of information out there. I searched "do scars alter fingerprints", and I was like -whoa! I let you sift through it all, LOL

  • #556
I was starting to wonder about this because, being the idiot that I am, I accidentally slashed my finger wide open with a knife about a month ago. Because I'm childlike and curious, I decided that I would try to see if it would affect my "fingerprint". I painted the finger and set it down on a piece of paper and it looked like there was part of my finger missing--there was a line through it, if that makes sense. Then after I washed it, I tried pressing my finger down on different surfaces to see if the line would look the same. It did, but they aren't real fingerprints anyway lol.

Will read about fingerprints + scarring

I would think it does but it may not matter since it searches multiple ridges. I'm not sure how many fingers they put in the search, what are the chances someone has scars on every finger?

Hugs and kisses back to you!

Thanks Roselvr for uploading the flyer here!

AL Ka, who was the MV cop who was shot on that day? I didn't see this in the paper. I went to the library yesterday and looked for articles on our girl. I found one, which I posted on the FB page. Mysteriously, the Feb. 15th edition of the paper was missing entirely.

Yes, the possible suspect fits those criteria.

Your theory on 10 Carleton makes perfect sense. The explanation in my mind was much simpler, but not as well thought out. 10 is directly across from the actual spot where she was found, although she was technically found on the property of J. Bass & Sons (9 - 11), the tall corrugated fence is across from 10.

I'm glad they're taking a look at Tina. I wasn't sure if they run fingerprints like they do DNA. Like I posted before, I couldn't find much on her. Do you know when she was submitted?
