They really do not know! I wrote a letter to the OCME's office and they said because it's a pending investigation they can't tell me. The records are in storage somewhere anyway. Then the detective in charge tried to find out and also got nowhere. It's really unbelievable.

Do you get to Jersey at all? There is a cemetery in Hillside called Evergreen Cemetery that does a lot of unclaimed remain burials. I know someone that passed in Hudson County that was buried there so I wonder if our girl could be there too since you said she could have been buried in Jersey. Usually cemeteries will tell you who is buried there if you go in person to ask. Some will do it over the phone of online. It's worth a try.

Her case file is safe with Det. DiMase :)
OCME will not release the location of her body to me, and apparently even gave DiMase a hassle that requires loads of paperwork (why they make this so hard on LE, I don't understand).

Thanks so much for all you do, it's very appreciated. Is Det. DiMase going to do the paperwork?

I am a Hudson County funeral director and my funeral home has buried a fair number of indigent and unidentified people for the county. We always use Evergreen Cemetery.

But my thoughts are if this Jane Doe is from New York, her remains are probably buried in a New York cemetery. Here in NJ, few funds are allocated for these type of burials and I don't see them expending extra money to cross state lines.

Does anyone know of any burial locations of any other New York Jane/John Does? Maybe that is a good place to start.

Thanks LilacStar! I originally thought she was on Heart Island; Jess contacted DiMase who said that she could be buried in NJ. That's why I suggested Evergreen

Because MVJD did not pass away within the 5 boroughs of NYC, she is not buried on Hart Island. I contacted the Westchester County ME's office who said that the file is buried somewhere in storage, but that we (Westchester) usually bury our unclaimed bodies in different cemeteries throughout Westchester and parts of New Jersey.

I also asked my boss, who is a former cop here, and he too had no idea where we bury our UIDs.

Westchester OCME told me to send a letter requesting the information, but then refused to give me an answer because I'm a civilian. DiMase then contacted them as lead detective and they still refused to help unless he went through their maze of paperwork.

Westchester OCME said that the cemetery who buries the UIDs is the one who is the lowest bidder - that they go out to bid each time there is such a case.

Would you be able to find out if MVJD is indeed buried in Evergeen?

I can try. Do we have any idea of when she may have been buried?

Any chance they are not releasing that as it is an active case and crime?

Interesting you say that. I've felt the same - what makes you think that?

Heard back that Terrie Lynn Hefner and Elizabeth Lamotte have been ruled out.

Nothing in particular. It just seems like they make even their own people jump through hoops for everything. Yes, probably because it's an active case, but still.

I don't have a clue :( Probably in 1989.

I have double checked the FB and no new PM messages in last few days with regards to MVJD there. Feel free to PM me here on WS. Just click on my name and somewhere there you should see send message button.

If it is not too private feel free to discuss or share your thoughts here on the case. Any new thoughts or eyes on this case are very welcomed.

Member of the FB group had added a bit of natural colour to MVJD original pictures, so just adding them here. I thought she did very well.

Welcome to Websleuths, crestedibis:

You are correct that artist recreations are used (particularly in here, in DoeNet, and in the media) out of sensitivity, but also in an attempt to reach more people who otherwise would be repulsed by images of deceased. Although some of the older posts include postmortem images in open view on the thread, Websleuths policy is now requires that we post them in such a way that they are available to those who wish to look at them (with a warning message accompanying the link), and any comparisons in open-view should be done using the reconstructions.

I created the color image above, (as well as about 40 or 50 others), and this particular image was one of my earlier attempts at doing facial reconstructions. I appreciate the critique, and I don't mind hearing constructive criticism.

Despite that this comes from a fairly clear image of the decedent, it was quite difficult to get an overall sense of the woman's overall look, even if I get the individual features and shapes correct. I probably spent more time on this image than most of the others, and I still feel like something is not quite right.

I am certain that in life, this woman didn't have the morose look that she has in death, and the difficult trick is to show her as she might have looked in life, rather than depicting a dead person with opened eyes. Many of the adjustments that I made to make her look alive, such as adding muscle tone to the cheeks, and straightening out her badly contorted lips, and fluffing up her hair (it was wet in the PM photo) have affected the resemblance to how she looks in death.

Perhaps when I feel ambitious, I might try re-doing this one now that I have more experience with the graphics software, and a comfort level drawing with a mouse rather than a paintbrush.

Thanks again, and ... :welcome5:
The eyes are showing too much lid. imo
