MANHATTAN (CN) — Manhattan prosecutors on Thursday filed bribery charges against Ingrid Lewis-Martin, who abruptly resigned as a top advisor to New York City Mayor Eric Adams over the weekend.

Lewis-Martin is accused of using her position as Adams' chief adviser to trade influence for cash. According to the 19-page indictment, Lewis-Martin often used her son Glenn Martin II — a co-defendant in the case — as an intermediary between two businessmen: Raizada “Pinky” Vaid and Mayank Dwived, who were also charged.

Prosecutors say Lewis-Martin accepted a number of perks from the pair of businessmen to benefit her son, like financial support for business ventures, including a clothing line and a Chick-fil-A franchise.

Lewis-Martin and her co-defendants surrendered early Thursday morning at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

It’s scary that city politicians are given so much power. They don’t seem to be worried about budgeting and balancing out.

The funds end up going towards personal use and no one is holding them accountable?

It seems like there were more cases like this in 2023-2024 than in previous years.

Article is from several days ago, but interesting take on it:

“They’re going to lean on her like no tomorrow,” one source said, theorizing that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office would try to get Lewis-Martin to flip on Adams, possibly in relation to the case against him brought by federal prosecutors.

CNN reports that discussions around Manhattan federal prosecutors dropping the Eric Adams federal corruption case are between the office of SDNY's acting deputy attorney and Trump hush money trial lawyer/current Trump Deputy AG Emil Bove, a former SDNY prosecutor himself.

In a letter to Ho Friday, Adams' lawyer Alex Spiro cited Attorney General Pam Bondi's Thursday remarks at the Conservative Political Action Conference that the indictment against Adams was “incredibly weak” and needed to be dismissed to end the “weaponization of the government.” He urged Ho to dismiss the charges based on “the evidence and on the law.”

"The three remaining federal prosecutors who brought criminal corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams resigned in protest on Tuesday, saying the Justice Department pressured them to admit wrongdoing when they refused to drop the case, according to a letter seen by Reuters.

"It is now clear that one of the preconditions you have placed on our returning to the office is that we must express regret and admit some wrongdoing," the three prosecutors wrote in their letter to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. "We will not confess wrongdoing when there was none." "

A former top City Hall advisor and current campaign confidante to Mayor Eric Adams attempted to give money to a reporter from THE CITY following a campaign event in Harlem Wednesday.

The failed payoff — a wad of cash in a red envelope stuffed inside an opened bag of Herr’s Sour Cream & Onion ripple potato chips — was made by Winnie Greco, a longtime Adams ally who resigned last year from her position as the mayor’s liaison to the Asian community after she was targeted in multiple investigations. She resurfaced recently as a consistent presence in his re-election campaign…

“I just wanted to be her friend,” Greco added. “I just wanted to have one good friend. It’s nothing.”
