Using the NY DOT Traffic Data Viewer I was able to get some more information about the traffic patterns on the streets the killer would have walked down.

At station 051264, Metropolitan Avenue from the Jackie Robinson Parkway to Hillside Avenue, the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) was 21,253 vehicles. According to a 2019 spot traffic monitoring study, the eastbound lanes of this section of road are not particularly busy during the time the killer is estimated to have placed the body there: between 3 and 4AM 67 cars pass through this stretch, and with traffic falling to only 42 cars between 4 and 5AM.

The westbound lanes of Metropolitan Avenue in the same stretch of road are slightly busier, presumably as workers are commuting to Manhattan for work. Between 3 and 4AM, 63 cars were recorded, and between 4 and 5AM, 69 cars were recorded.

On Ascan Avenue, from Metropolitan Avenue to Austin Street, the AADT was 4,828 vehicles, although the vast majority of those vehicles were recorded after 7AM. Between 3AM and 4AM, only 11 cars passed through this stretch of road, while between 4AM and 5AM, only 9 cars drove on this stretch of road.

In 2019, a spot traffic monitoring study (radar placed 120ft south of Loubet Street on Ascan Avenue), only 5 vehicles were recorded between 3 and 4AM and 7 vehicles between 4 and 5AM.

72nd Avenue from Metropolitan Avenue to Loubet Street is similarly desolate during this timeframe: only 1 vehicle is recorded between 3 and 4AM and 2 vehicles recorded between 4 and 5AM.

Always a good idea to remember, what the general public sees on someone's FB is only the limited number of posts/pics the account holder chooses to make public. I have tons of pics on my FB page, but the public doesn't know that, because most are set viewable to friends only.

The more I look at the still pics of the suspect with the hockey bag I think the suspect is wearing the hockey gear that was probably in the bag. Look at the shoulder angle. This is just crazy. It really looks like a kid to me. That is not a full grown adult and they are wearing shoulder pads.

Agreed, the silhouette is unusual, possibly because they are wearing gear that was previously stored in the bag. I don't think the killer brought a weapon or the bag to the home. I suspect those items were already conveniently located inside the home. You may be right that the perpetrator wore sporting goods items that would conceal their identity or at least make them harder to identify.

I also agree that the build of the person appears to be slight. This was no hulking behemoth who overpowered the victim. MOO the killer was known to victim and this was a very personal killing. Much rage and the perp was same size or smaller than victim. I suspect what appears to be "overkill" (59 stab wounds??) may have been that the victim and perp were of similar size, power, and therefore Mrs. Gaal was able to put up a very substantial fight.

finally one small OT, now that I think this perp is wearing sports gear I am having Missy Beaver flashbacks. We debated and debated that outfit, real cop/fake cop, height/build/sex, building plans of the church - timelines. Yikes, had to stop following that one it burnt me out.

If you look at the photo of the location of the photo, 100-18th 75th Avenue per another poster, you can see the bushes are like 8-9foot tall, making suspect adult size. I believe the survellience camera dwarfs images to a degree.

I wonder who told police that she "actually went on a date" that night?? Did the 13 year old tell police that?

I am sitting back and waiting for more information, but I agree with everyone, the person wheeling the bag does not look like a man she would have had an affair with. The person's stature is small. The way the police word that the 13 year old did not leave the house overnight also seems like a strange way to word it.

<modsnip - off topic>

I will await further information, but there are many things that make me go hmmmm with this case. So very sad! Such anger shown in the killing! Very personal killing.

^^BBM

To me, this means that the youngest son is not the individual seen on video pulling the duffel bag at 4:30 am if NYPD is saying that he never left the home after she was murdered.

That's still 100+ cars on Metropolitan alone on the killer path between 3-5 am, if I read that right.

I also noticed that a block of the image has been brought forward, you can see it looking at the sudewalks? Sidewalks, silly me.

I've seen a few questions about the incident at the end of May 2020 when she was reported missing by her husband. She was absent from social media for one day only, so it must have been resolved quickly.
I do wonder the state of the marriage.

One car is one car too many. When I see people that early in the morning, it catches my eye. Not that many pedestrians out at that time. Somebody had to have seen this-most likely a few people.

Could OG have met up with someone in the garage? I am assuming that LE mentioned the basement theory because of evidence and a crime scene. But some people smoke in their garage rather than the house, so who knows. And where is/was the dog?

The porch from which the camera captured the suspect is higher than the sidewalk. This probably would make the person seem shorter, and it's also shot in night mode so it would alter certain aspects of the perspective. I don't think it's either a woman or a short person, but I do think they've bulked themselves up with something like sports gear?

Any word on the dog? Was she maybe outside with the dog and got dragged inside? She was still dressed to go out. That bothers me immensely. Usually, when my kid was still living with us, if we went out, we'd check in on him and then tell him we were turning in, change our clothes, go to bed. Why didn't the son wonder where she was? Maybe he called his dad and we just don't know it?

Interesting stats and not what I’m accustomed to here in NYC. From my apartment I can see a portion of a major highway and it has constant traffic at all hours.
Especially interesting because your stats are from 2019, before people started working remotely and hence even less traffic now than previously.

Still, if I were a killer hoisting a body in a bag, I’d avoid major intersections and highways, including the approaches, if for no other reason that there would be more traffic cameras there.

Moot point now, though. We will know when we know.

There is a pic, cop coming out of garage, looks like has been broken.

That is the first thought I had when I saw the first photo of all the LE officers, the expression on their faces showed they were all emotionally affected by this case. I wonder what they discovered in the house that hit them so badly.

This is what I wonder too. If he woke up and alerted anyone that she was missing.

Looking at the grainy still of the image of suspect dragging her down the sidewalk (that hurt my heart to type), it occurred to me that if I lived on this street, I'd immediately be checking my Ring cam to see if I had any videos of him/her, from that night.

I suppose everyone on that street probably did exactly the same thing. And what's more, every resident with a cam on every street between there and the Juno residence. If they don't already know who this suspect is, I'd bet they have loads of videos of him/her.

PIX11 News obtained surveillance video of a man dragging the duffel bag. The video is too disturbing to share. Police identified a person of interest in the case Monday afternoon, sources said. The individual was known to the 51-year-old Queens mom of two. No arrests have been made.

I see what looks like fresh wood, as you did. But on satellite view, it looks as though those little garages are detached from the homes, so it doesn't seem like someone would be able to access the house from the garage (assuming I'm looking at the right section of the street).

Hopefully they will be making an arrest soon.

Also from the article: "At some point, a man who police believe she was familiar with met up with her, sources said. That man is believed to have murdered Gaal in her basement, the sources said. Investigators believe Gaal knew the killer because there were no signs of forced entry at her home." BBM.
