That she left on her her own, voluntarily. Runaway bride scenario.

Perhaps she met someone that she knew her parents would not "approve" of. Who knows. Shes home safe that all that really matters.

Speaking as a WS'er - it is so frustrating to think about the possibility of not knowing the ending to a story. Yes, we know that she is safe and that is awesome - the very best outcome possible. But we love to solve things, and we need closure! I'm making fun of myself with that comment but it is so true. I'm so, so happy that she is safe and sound, but there's that part of me that wants the whole story. We've got the beginning, and middle (although not the complete beginning and middle I'm sure) and now I want....no I NEED an end. :) Okay - toddler rant over and I'll respect their wishes for privacy. But it's killin' me I tell ya!!

You and me both PeggyAnnMckay, you and me both. :dramaqueen:

From link:

"This is a crime," Abrams said.

During questioning, Mattice told police she was held against her will for the last two weeks. The questioning took place over several hours after she was taken to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville and medically cleared.

Police said she was "very cooperative."

"We are determined to find out who did this and bring them to justice," State Police Capt. Robert Patnaude said at a news conference at the Mayfield barracks.

Sounds like LE believes her. Poor woman, what she must have been through. Thank God she's ok and while I truly hope they catch this guy, I'm grateful he let her go for whatever reason.

Why didn't LE make these statements (i.e. it was a crime) in the press conference? Is this a reputable news source?

"There is no manhunt and no request for the public to be on the lookout for any person, Abrams said."

Why? 2 weeks is a very long time to have nothing noticeable to look for (age, race, location hints, car, one vs multiple)

unless they have a good idea and don't want to spook the perp, It just makes me think

The Times Union is the largest newspaper in the Capital Region of NY state. I like to think they are reputable.

Sounds to me like the Sherrif believes her. Sounds to me like she was drugged.

Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

If so, how difficult would it be to keep a woman drugged for two weeks to the point she cannot recall anything at all but still be found in what has been said basically good condition but a little weight loss?

I honestly don't know. I'm just trying to work it out in my mind. I really don't feel good about doubting her at this point. If I'm wrong then that's ok, because it would mean she didn't suffer. But the girl was wearing the same clothes for 2 weeks. I don't know why that matters, but it does. And truth be told, we don't know what the results of her hospital exam was.

Absolutely! I know that there are a lot of trolls out there, and when something like this happen people can receive a lot of criticism for the choices they've made. But really, I think more people would be helped by it than hurt. Just the example of running away - how many of us would love to just run away when things get hard or uncomfortable. I don't actually act on it, but I've certainly entertained the idea of how nice it would be to just get away.

Granted she may have been taken against her will, and I hope that she has a great support system around her to help her through it. But we've seen how many survivor stories really encourage others. Privacy is hard, but when you invite the public in, well....you invite the public in. And now we're all family whether they want us or not. Lol.

WE were told last yr. it was " nunya beezwax" when the family member who was 40 ish, 9 months preg.<maybe> from out of state went missing. When she was found safely. She was taken to the hospital..... radio silence.... never heard nothing about her.
I wanted to know if she was really pregnant.
We may never know why if she chose 2 weeks away. Or her story is true.:moo:

I just got a chance to watch the press conference in its entirety. I need your opinions.

Not only do they say "she indicates she was held against her will" but that is AFTER starting to say "she was held aga..." And then he changes his wording to include the words 'indicates.'

What do you folks make of that?

I'm thinking they have no proof...yet... and are still investigating! Whatever happened I understand giving her privacy. I also think since the family asked for the public's help to locate her then they should at least give a statement thanking everyone!

Jmho

I think LE is skeptical, perhaps because of lack of evidence, perhaps because of inconsistencies in her story or lack of detail, perhaps because things just don't make sense. They aren't going to say she wasn't abducted barely 12 hours after she came home, they will continue to investigate and interview her repeatedly until they have a clearer picture of what happened.

For what it's worth, in sleuthing various SM, I did see postings from a few days after she went missing saying, essentially, if anyone sees her tell her to call home. I think from the beginning there have been different opinions and small town gossip made it into MSM. MOO, of course.

Omg. You just made me remember that case. How did I forget? We all had to assume the pregnancy was faked. And she had a medical condition that made it extremely high risk. Argh. I have to know again ..

that is what law enforcement is paid to do. yes, they are paid by tax money. no, we don't have a right to know anyone's personal business.

There are also a lot of taxpayers asking for some kind of explanation of the funds that were used to send all these men and equipment on the hunt for Rachael. We pay the bills. We deserve to know if this was truly an abduction.

A simple Rachael has problems and she and her family are working on them would suffice. But to continue holding interviews saying nothing is not acceptable.

Every single agency has to have some accountability for the money spent.

Those that searched, hung missing posters, prayed and held vigils also deserve some kind of closure on what happened.

Just catching up. So glad she's been found!

I'm inclined to believe she's telling the truth. LE had her cell phone, they would know everyone she's been in contact with. In 2 weeks, they probably interviewed all of her friends and acquaintances, including anyone she interacted with on social media, etc. It seems unlikely they would miss finding her if she was hiding out with a friend.

She disappeared in a remote area, pretty far from any big towns or cities. If she left on foot, someone would have seen her wandering around in those two weeks. Johnstown, NY is over 30 miles from Wells, with few roads and small towns in between. Someone would have seen her walking on any of the roads.

IMO, it seems likely someone had been watching her, knew she was alone and followed her up to the camp and abducted her. Or they could have hidden nearby or in the camper waiting for her to come home. If they had a gun, it would have been easy to abduct her without leaving signs of a struggle. As has happened in other cases, she may have been prevented from seeing where the kidnapper took her. She may or may not know what the kidnapper looked like and the interior of the place she was kept, but have no idea exactly where it was.

I hope they can get more information from her once she's rested and find the person who did it.

We can agree to disagree.
