I do not blame her mama at all, she is frustrated already.

OT (but only kind of): another local girl has faked her abduction. I truly hope Rachael did not inspire her and that this is not a trend we see in our young ladies around here.

In other news, this mom is on point.

Edit to add: sorry, this is not local. I thought it was because it was shared by my local news but now I see it is in South Carolina. Regardless, my other points still stand.

This grandmother will raise this drug addict kids to be much better people than the addict ever can. I feel bad for what the mother going through, but her conclusion is right on point, pure evil

one can hope, but she raised that drug addict. not saying anything about the grandma. God give her strength.

What kids? I must be getting my stories mixed up because I don't remember any kids.

It occurred to me, upon reading the updates to this story, that all the resources would have been spent anyway. She wasn't in trouble legally until she lied to LE about being abducted and held against her will. Had she just said she had run away for personal reasons she would not have been arrested. However, all the searching still would have occurred, the expense still would have occurred, and I imagine many people would still be furious about that as well.

A 21+ yr old is not a child, so how does one determine whether someone just left for whatever (personal) reasons vs have been abducted? It's not against the law to not be in touch with mommy, daddy, or anyone else for a period of time once you're 18 and above. Lying to LE about it after the fact is against the law, as we know.

...but she did set up where she was living to make it appear that she was taken.

Had she left a note, "HELP I've been taken against my will" that would be one thing. But appearances can be deceiving and in fact were deceiving. Her parents decided she must have been abducted and got the word out and called LE. Rachelle did not contact LE herself. She didn't commit a crime *until* she gave that made-up abduction story to LE. Then she committed a crime and she got arrested and will be subject to whatever the state is going to do next.

As for the public and social media and people who choose to follow crime cases, the responsibility is 100% on everyone who chooses to get involved, or chooses to follow or chooses to ignore it. No one is ever forced to participate, search, or even read the articles. No one is forced to spend any time imagining what might have happened. Some adults do go missing by choice. Police know that, the FBI know that, it's part of the spectrum of being 'missing.' This young woman's case will not affect how LE conduct missing person cases; the rhetoric that LE will stop looking for other missing people because of this one woman is false, and in my opinion that conclusion is coming from an emotional public who feel entitled to know every last detail.

I do agree with you on everything you posted in regards to appearances can be deceiving as that was her intent... except when you are taken against your will you don't often get to leave a note.
ETA I just realized that note thing was not the norm just an example. I need more sleep. Also cute kitty in your photo!

I also feel this young lady needs some help.

I'm not sure that's true... LE said from the beginning that there was no sign of foul play.

I think local news reported rumors.

EXCEPT, she didn't just leave and not contact people, she didn't JUST take off...

...Her camp and car door were found wide open with her purse and phone still inside.

She WANTED her car to be found, she WANTED her purse to be located, she wanted it to be a pity party on her in hopes we can all forget her drug theft and focus on letting her "recover and heal" from her planned out fake abduction.
I take no pity or empathy for her, there are PLENTY of people out there in worse situations and they do not pull stunts like this.

If I lived in this community and had a daughter who disappeared I'd pray Rachel's actions don't give LE pause. We all have read where LE doesn't move quickly to help someone/a family, and I fear it might become a bit tougher for LE to react as quickly as needed if woman like;

Johnstown woman pleads not guilty to lying about abduction
By Daniel Fitzsimmons August 9, 2016

MAYFIELD — Rachael Lynn Mattice, the Johnstown woman who told investigators she was abducted and held against her will for two weeks, an account that police say she made up, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to a single misdemeanor count of falsely reporting an incident.

Mattice’s case was adjourned to Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. in Mayfield Town Court.

<snip>

She later told investigators she was drugged at the camp and awoke in a small shed, after which she was assaulted for two weeks by a man who eventually dropped her off, bound and blindfolded, at Cayadutta and Warren streets in Johnstown.

<snip>

Investigators, however, found a witness July 18 who told them he had given Mattice a ride from a trailhead in Hamilton County to a seasonal camp in Canada Lake. Police said the camp belongs to the boyfriend of Mattice’s aunt.

<snip>

On Tuesday a few minutes before her 3 p.m. appearance in Mayfield Town Court, a red pickup truck carrying Mattice and various family members pulled into the courthouse lot, causing several reporters to have to scramble out of the way to avoid being hit.
