Family: Missing woman found, 4 month old still missing

A Schenectady mother sought by police has been found, but her 4-month-old son Rayen Puleski remains missing, according to a family member.

Police located Heaven Puleski near the Days Inn downtown around midday Wednesday, relative Lisa Dutcher told the Gazette, but the baby wasn't with her. CBS6, also citing family, also reported the mother had been found, but not the baby.

Are there no other photos of little Rayen? That picture looks more like a relatively newborn baby than a 4 month-old? I suppose I could be wrong about the age in the photo. He's adorable either way, and I hope he's safe and well.

Schenectady mother gives conflicting accounts of missing baby
The mother of a missing 4-month-old boy has been unable to give police a clear explanation of what happened to the child, officials familiar with the case said Thursday.
The Daily Gazette reported that Puleski had drug addictions and was arrested in 2016 for escaping custody of the Gloversville policee.

Social services officials in Fulton County declined to say if their agency had had contact with Puleski. Schenectady County officials did not return repeated calls on Thursday.

Coroner arrives at Schenectady search scene
A county coroner has arrived at the scene where searchers have been trying to find a missing baby.

As the coroner's vehicle pulled into the driveway on State Street where the search for the 4-month-old was centered, relatives of the baby and the mother — who is now at a local hospital -- broke down.

She was complaining that no one wrote to her while she was locked up and no one would help her once she was released.

Poor baby — so many children are born into lives of neglect and abuse. It makes my heart ache.

The body was found behind an apartment building on State Street. Schenectady Police Officer Matt Dearing said police were following up on leads that lead them to the location.

“There was a body located behind 766 State St. consistent with that of a child, and that’s where the investigation stands right now,” he said.

Police could not release any other information Thursday night. Officials were conducting a search into the disappearance of 4-month-old Rayen Puleski.

Family of missing baby waits for answers after body is found
While the full facts of Rayen Puleski's brief life are only beginning to surface, public records, relatives' accounts and official sources depict a chaotic home life that spiraled down in recent weeks.
Dutcher said her niece moved to Schenectady to get out of the cramped motel room.

"She jumped on an apartment she thought would be great for the baby," Dutcher said. But trouble started soon after.

Dutcher said her niece, who has two other children but lost custody of both, struggled with drug problems.

"When Heaven was sober, she was a great mother," she said. "Her daughter was spoiled rotten. Anyone will tell you that."

This is so tragic. And becoming not uncommon. I’m so tired of hearing of parents on drugs taking their babies precious lives. Drugs DESTROY. This poor precious baby, I can’t even...

That said, my oldest son is in jail facing over 40 felony drug charges. He’s 21. I love him but he has caused so much heartbreak, anger, and sheer hopelessness. His drug use nearly tore me apart, all the lies, the begging, the empty promises, the threats. Thank God he hasn’t had a child. But I’m also really angry because he started dealing the drugs he was using...so how many more lives has he screwed up???

Prayers going out to the family. This was very preventable. No excuse for what what happened to this little angel.

The babies body (not confirmed yet by autopsy) was found two blocks from where I live. I keep seeing his precious face on the news and tears well up everytime. The family upset with police and child protective, but there is only one person who their anger should be at, the "mother" The aunt wanted to view the body but I don't think she truly realizes that with the elements and how long he was missing most likely he is unrecognizable. No one in the extended family had seen Rayen since June. Very upsetting as they knew the "mother' already had one child given to the father and the other taken away and adopted. And with the drug use......... May that little sweet boy RIP, my heart also goes out to the first responders. Autopsy was supposed to be done yesterday, but no updates yet. And saying not sure if any charges will be filed. Of course there has to be charges filed, the baby was thrown away like trash. After the Casey Anthony verdict my trust in the justice system was shattered.

Foss: Recovery of child's body demands answers
The signs of despair are everywhere in the block where the body of a child was found late Thursday night.

There are boarded-up houses and vacant lots with knee-high weeds, snippets of graffiti scrawled on walls and sidewalks, broken windows and piles of garbage accumulating on sidewalks and in alleys.
We know that his mother, Heaven Puleski, was located at a nearby Days Inn in Schenectady, questioned by police and taken to "detox" at Ellis Hospital, according to family members. One family member said Puleski struggled with addictions to heroin and crack cocaine.

In 2016, Puleski was arrested for escaping police custody in Gloversville on drug charges, spent 10 months in the county jail, and had another child removed from her custody.

Which raises the question: Why was Rayen Puleski still in the custody of someone who, if the descriptions provided by family are accurate, was clearly unfit to be a parent? Why did it take so long to figure out he was missing?

Wow. Real super mom here. What I would like to know why was this baby in her care. She screwed up with her first 2 children, but sure let's give her another shot given she has such a stellar track record. Epic fail!
