NY - Robert Chambers, 20, convicted in 1986 murder of Jennifer Levin, 18, Manhattan

  • #21
Robert E. Chambers Jr., who is known to many as the "preppie killer," arrived more than an hour late for his sentencing hearing today on drug charges, and a Manhattan Criminal Court judge tacked an extra 10 days onto his three-month jail term.

Mr. Chambers, appearing gaunt and wearing a black T-shirt and baggy gray sweatpants, apologized to Judge Gerald Harris, saying he had been held up while attempting to pay overdue parking tickets.

The judge sentenced Mr. Chambers to a total of 100 days at Rikers Island, saying his tardiness violated the agreement he had made with prosecutors earlier this summer when he pleaded guilty to heroin possession and driving with a suspended license. The plea had helped him avoid what could have been a one-year sentence if he had been convicted by a jury.

'Preppy Killer' Charged With Selling Controlled Substance

CBS) NEW YORK Robert Chambers, the infamous "Preppy Killer," was arrested late Monday night in New York City, this time on multiple counts of selling a controlled substance, WCBS-TV has learned.

Police executed a search warrant at 357 East 57th St. and arrested Chambers, 41.

He was charged with three counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the first degree, three counts of the same charge in the second degree and one count of resisting arrest, police said.

Chambers became a household name in the city two decades ago for the murder of 18-year-old Jennifer Levin in Manhattan's Central Park on Aug. 26, 1986.

Ahahahaha--Chambers in trouble again--41 years old--what a lowlife--send him back to prison for five years this time--I still remember the murder trial back in the '80's--The stupid NY Jury was deadlocked--deadlocked! and Chambers plea-bargained and only served 15 years--what a disgrace--He should have gotten life in prison w/o parole--It was a totally senseless murder of an 18 year old girl

so he should get some time out of the dealing charges with the past charges he had against him right? Sorry not certain on N.Y.'s drug laws.

LOL about having a 2004 thread on Robert Chambers so we can just keep adding on.

NY Times:

After his arrest last night, Mr. Chambers, dressed in sweat pants and sneakers, was taken to the East 51st Street station house, then to Manhattan Central Booking. He could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted of the latest charges.
According to the indictment, the most serious charges against Mr. Chambers are two counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the first degree, which carry sentences of between 15 and 30 years in prison. He was also charged with a dozen other drug related charges — all of which carry sentences from three-and-one-half to 17 years in prison.
Ms. Kovell was charged with one count of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the second degree, which carries up to 10 years, and one count of criminal possession, which carries up to 9 years. She is scheduled to appear in court with Mr. Chambers this afternoon. (more at link and picture)

There may be some justice afterall for JL's murder.

Thank you Taximom for the details regarding the charges and how much time he may get

Hope they lock him up and throw away the key. He's bad news.

Chambers is a drug addict and was doing what many drug addicts do. But I doubt he'll get any judicial sympathy given his background.

This guy doesn't deserve any sympathy.

As you know, I think our drug laws are arbitrary and tyrannical. But this case isn't one that bothers me. I know it should, out of principle, but it doesn't.

He looks bad, like a drug addict alright--Gaunt, vacant eyes, unshaven--plenty of gray hairs there--He's got the look of a total loser--and I'm sure Jennifer Levin's parents are not displeased with this recent turn of events

I hear you. It's difficult to scrape up a lot of compassion for Chambers. I reckon he's just a self-fulfilling prophecy, and I am not going to weep into my pillow at night if he gets sentenced for life.

It makes me think of O.J. Simpson, another human being I have trouble rousing any positive thoughts for....

I saw this on NG last night. What an absolute moron. This guy must be a narcissist. I'm glad he's off the streets. I hope he stays behind bars.

Exactly. And we're really stretching the definition of "human being."

His mother is a lovely woman. It is a shame that he had so much going for him and he chose to throw it all away.

I've heard that about his mother. My deepest sympathy for her, I can't even imagine the pain her son has caused her.

I thought he was gorgeous ......total waste of a human being..... but damn ...he was hot.

I hope he's awarded the highest sentence allowed. I followed his case from beginning to end. He is a narcissistic p*ick.
