Robert J. Long – The Charley Project

Robert has been missing since 12/21/10.

He left home with enough money in his pocket to purchase what he went to the liquor store for.

The investigating agencies scoured footage from the bridges and tunnels as well as the ferries for any sign of Robert or his PT Cruiser and neither were seen.

His wife has stated that prior to his disappearance Robert had spoken about suicide. Neither his wife or the employees at the liquor store noticed anything off about Robert's behavior on this day. That isn't to say he wasn't suicidal at the time.

Details of Disappearance
Long was last seen in Long Island, New York on the afternoon of December 21, 2010. He left his home on Hillsdale Avenue to go to the nearby Miller Place Wine & Liquor Store on Route 25A. He did make it to the store and bought a bottle of liquor, but never returned home and has never been heard from again.

His off-white 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser, which has a yellow "Support the Troops" ribbon decal on the back and the New York license plate number EEH4237, disappeared with him; a photo of it is posted with this case summary.

Long was carrying little or no cash at the time of his disappearance. He had his cellular phone, but not the charger. It's uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning. Foul play is suspected in his disappearance, which remains unsolved.

The remains have yet to be identified, and the Suffolk County medical examiner will determine the identity of the remains and perform an autopsy to determine a cause of death, the department said.

“There is a missing person who we suspect this driver to be,” Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer said Tuesday afternoon. “We made a courtesy notification to the family, but we have not definitively made any sort of identification.”
