maybe as in----did not shave that day?? Or no shaving things were missing from home???

I take it as he didn't shave that day. I'm guessing it was unnecessary to look clean shaven on the job. He did have to get up early to get to work. Maybe it was typical for him to shave after work. Seems logical, but I don't know for sure.

Yes, These are original details from IM. May have been running late and didn't shave. Followed by how she didn't really know because it was 4:30am and she was sleeping.

Exactly!

Yes, it is strictly based off of physical evidence to conclude there was a crime. Even if the spouse or close family member states (only an example) their husband went to work, came home, ate dinner, went to bed and let's say the man did the same routine for 40 years. Also had multiple friends, family, money, etc. But one day, he just disappears. Unless there is evidence of a crime they will not pursue it as such. Missing persons cases are a little different. First one must be reported missing obviously. LE generally only follow up on sightings. They may make suggestions or opinions as to what may have happened but this is rare. LE will not pursue a case though as a crime unless they have credible evidence to support it. Then it becomes a whole new animal and flurry of forensics. However there have been few where a spouses statement to LE and others in the past have been used to incriminate the said spouse and justice was carried out with very little physical evidence. Drew Peterson and Scott Peterson come to mind.

So is this case being investigated then? From how I interpret your above statement, LE is not really doing much? Or are they doing all they can, which is limited?

It is really eye opening how unsafe we are as citizens, really bothers me. I am lucky in that I have never had to go through this horrible experience, and hope the family gets some word soon. I know we all go on and on here, but a family is hurting, and missing a loved one.

I like to shave at night as it speeds things up in the morning... Seems a slightly unshaven look is very popular these days around here...

wouldn't LIRR have to issue a complaint about an abandoned car for something to be done about it? Or the car being reported as missing---there are enough identifying things on the car ---VIN number, plates, registration

Supposedly, it is a free parking lot, so some of the homeless with vehicles have been camping out in their cars. Looks like there is very little oversight of the area for abandoned cars and crime (supposedly, no cameras too.) This explains why RM wasn't too keen on leaving his car there.

Someone posted the link for the parking info to that train station a day or 2 ago here on this thread.

Welcome and feel free to jump in, if you dare. :seeya:

Thanks, BunnyHop! :seeya:

My initial impression was that, if he went to the scrap yard (and I think we can accept that he did--99% sure we've been told there was a receipt), it was for some extra $$ to splash out a little on Father's Day weekend with his family, and something happened along the way. I know it's not impossible that he walked away, and there may be significance to doing so on Father's Day weekend (as has been suggested on one of these threads). I really just remain :fence:

(Thanks to you all, I started reading Gone Girl yesterday. And I for one try to catch up on old posts before replying, to avoid asking a question that has already been answered. I open up any post I might want to reply to in a separate tab, and if it isn't addressed by the time I get to the end of the new posts, I'll go for it.)

Yes, cases where a body isn't found and even more so when there's no forensics showing a life was taken just don't get the all-out attention of LE, IMO...
Guess the feeling is, "why spin our wheels on a case where someone may have taken off on their own and doesn't want to be found".

A cousin of mine tried to sneak into Canada once in the trunk of a car. He got caught and spent the night in jail. The next day, on the advice of some friends, he bought a bag of groceries (TP to be exact) and walked right across the border with no problem. Of course, it was a good few years ago, but where there's a will there's a way. He was trying to get back to Ireland, and did not want to leave from the states or else he wouldn't get back in. Different times, I know.

Aha! He was conniving! If you go the typical way (by car or bus), you can get caught. The border guards probably assumed he lived in a border town. The borders have a lot of cross traffic of locals shopping, doing errands, etc. Some even use the libraries on both sides of the border. After the terrorist attacks in NYC and all the tightened border security, the border town locals on both sides, became up in arms over the inconvenience.

I want to add that sometimes being incredibly bold and obvious works. I recall my dad telling me he used to leave bars with a glass of beer in his hand. Sometimes he would wave goodbye with the beer in his hand. I tried it once and it worked!! If you hid it under you jacket, they'd catch you. Bear in mind, this was years ago.

Something I mentioned in the previous thread (thead #2) and want to bring up again,
is the use of license plate scanners....

"License plate scanners are "in effect, government location tracking systems recording the movements of many millions of innocent Americans in huge databases," "

It would be interesting to know if LE has checked to track where his car was that day..

Didn't RM have an iPhone 4s? I think I read it somewhere. If he did have that phone, he had GPS.

Hi True Crime Gal, and welcome :seeya:

Since you are new to the site, and you may be able to better recall as its fresher in your mind, can you post where you saw there was a receipt from the scrap metal yard? I've been searching and can't find anything. I have re-read the most recent FAQ page on FB and it is not mentioned. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure LE would check that if it is in their crime fighting toolbox. RM was probably driving mostly on the freeway and residential streets, so maybe he didn't drive in an area where he would run into device like that. It seems they are in police vehicles and in certain crime prone areas (car theft?). Some bridges have them, because some people try to run off without paying the tolls. It's a good question, but maybe the use of this technology isn't that broad on Long Island. Wish I knew!

Dug back through the threads and found this post, which is what I think I was thinking of--but you're right, this info is not cited. My bad! :( Perhaps she (she? I hate assuming) can further illuminate where this info came from.

If the scrap yard sighting is on this page it has to be 'official', yes?

Sorry again,

Good work!!!! I'm still not convinced there's a receipt. And the CUE page is information provided by the family, I believe. Its been stated since RM was missing two weeks that he was last seen at the scrap yard, but there is no visual evidence (cameras not working that day), no public interviews, etc. IM was told to check the scrap yard two weeks after RM went missing by his fellow co-workers. This is in the FAQ sheet too. Scrap yard was looked at in Late June.
