I would imagine it is pretty standard for them to hold the car. If this became a criminal investigation at some point they would feel pretty stupid for turning it back over to the family.

Wouldnt it depend on whose name THE CAR is in?? Or if there are outstanding tickets etc???

IMO, the car is definitely still being held and there is a clue in why it's being held. Used in commission of a crime...or something else. This is what I was led to believe. IMO my theory that they had a fight is wrong. It's something else perhaps more interesting. And I think we can rule out suicide.

I think if they believe foul play is involved they may need it for evidence.

And I do think there was foul okay involved.

:(
Wouldn't the evidence be any prints lifted, fibers found, stains tested or piece of seat removed + such like that? The whole entire car wouldn't be needed, in my mind. JMO I agree, I'm sliding over the :fence: to the foul play side. :notgood: However LE may believe that, but its not what they've stated. IIRC They said they would follow up any leads but they did not believe foul play was involved.

Maybe because the family doesn't need the car so they may as well hold the actual evidence and not just the notes about the evidence? Maybe each jurisdiction handles this differently. Where is Gricar missing from?
Ray Gricar went missing in PA. His car was turned over to his housemate who had her own vehicle. They lived together, were not married. His car was found in a parking lot, "clean". They did find a minute amount of cigarette ash, I do mean a speck or two. This was odd because RG was very particular about taking care of his car also, it was a Mini Cooper + it was said he would never allow smoking in it. At the time LE said similar things, no evidence of a crime, do not suspect foul play. Same thing that NH LE said about Maura Murray. However NH LE held tight to her car even though they made it clear they thought she had taken off from a minor fender bender + there was no evidence of foul play. Her car was registered to her father + he could not for the life of him get NH LE to turn it over to him. This is all from my questionable memory.

LE said no foul play in regards to RM's disappearance, but perhaps a crime occurred before or separate from his disappearance. Hence holding the car because it was used in the commission of a crime.

May I ask what your theory is on the "something else"?
And, why you theorize suicide can be ruled out?
Because you have sparked my curiosity.

General question for all-------Long Island is really nice temperature wise -- not hot, not too cold---ideal for searching ?? Ideal to maintain evidence, a scene???

Why are we interested in this case?

I'll bite. I'm interested because I live in NY and very familiar with the area.
I checked the back story, and that intrigued me.

Rob is missing. He looks like a "regular" nice guy.
Where did he go? Why so much secrecy?

Is there more to the story? Why hasn't MSM picked up the story?
Why has it gone secret? Don't they want to find him?

Where's Rob? Why the silence? IDK. :seeya:

I became interested because of the kids and because Rob DOES look like such a regular guy. What keeps me interested is still the kids, AND the seemingly one dimensional view of Rob the public has been given, despite requests of simple clues to his personality. MOO

Because I was led to believe that it wasn't as simple as a suicide. That there was more going on. So this is my opinion now.

I dont know what something else. Why else are the police allowed or would hold a car? Outstanding fines? Warrant?

Actually, this is a good point. If the vehicle was registered in RM's name, others may not be able to claim it for a release. Just a possibility—no facts.

Possible, but they never said no foul play happened. They said it doesn't look like a crime has been committed, but they are still investigating. In other words, there seems to be nothing conclusive on this case so far. At least, as far as we know (the public).

What kinds of questions did you ask them?

So is the "we need to be looking for RM and stop with the wild theories" a diversion tactic or the oddest request for assistance in the history of missing persons? It's one or the other folks.

The wall of secrecy by all involved is a clue unto itself.

"Help Us, but don't look here, don't look there, don't ask questions, don't follow clues, don't speculate or have theories, don't go looking yourself and for goodness sake don't ask anyone involved in the case from LE to SAR to Parks"

Sheesh....you got to be kidding me. I'm going to go check my shed when I get home...it's about as effective as anything else I can do at this point given what I have to work with.

:scared::banghead::stormingmad:

Possibly, they don't want people to do too much digging sometimes. I remember a case where a family member was unusually evasive and defensive, it turns out there was a warrant out for his arrest from another state. He was in hiding, while communicating online about his missing son's case. It is doubtful his crimes were related to the disappearance, but it was not only embarrassing to him, it added fuel to all the speculation by strangers that he may be involved. Possibly, he had nothing to do with the disappearance, so he didn't want to steer people's theory building in his direction. He could just be a dad looking for his son. Hard to tell. Just some thoughts.

Okay, so maybe we should do something different here. Can we take one theory and come up with whys and why nots and see if anything new comes to mind? We are all over the place with theories and keep banging our heads against the wall.

One theory is that he just simply left.
Is it possible? Yes.
Is it probable? Maybe, maybe not.
Is it worth it? Depends on reason.

With that in mind, WHY do people just leave and willingly disappear without a trace?
GO!

Maybe poor choices made in a person's life makes them flee?
Or maybe not accepting responsibilities/consequences of choices made?
IMOO.

GO!

They want a "do over", realized that the life situation they are in just is no longer working for them, fall in love with someone else, escape responsibilities,
go on a "walk about", did something they cannot undo.

I've done some research on why a person might willingly disappear without a trace and there have actually been a few studies. Reasons could include: 1) crime they can't or don't want to face; 2) feeling inadequate/unloved/unappreciated at home/work, etc.; 3) stress; 4) adventure/grass is greener; 5) overwhelmed by lifestyle/don't know how to face letting others down; 5) new life/new potential spouse.

Any other ideas?

another thought---maybe they want to be someone else

and/or the individual isn't angry just done
