Law enforcement squabbles reportedly hamper search for escaped killers
The ongoing manhunt for two convicted murderers who escaped from a maximum security New York prison earlier this month has been set back by conflicts between the law enforcement agencies pursuing the men.
The New York Post reported late Sunday that the New York State Police, the lead agency into the investigation, has refused to share information about the planning and scope of the search for David Sweat and Richard Matt. Some of the other agencies involved in the manhunt are local police, the Clinton County Sheriffs Department, the state Correctional Services Department, the state Environmental Conservation Department, and the U.S. Marshals.
Source: Plot included murder
Joyce Mitchell allegedly told investigators she had discussed a plan with two convicted murderers that she would pick them up after they broke out of prison and they would possibly kill her husband and flee to an undisclosed destination, a law enforcement source told the Times Union on Saturday.
The source, who did not have direct knowledge of the interrogation, was told that during two State Police interviews lasting 10 hours each, Mitchell allegedly said David Sweat and Richard Matt may have planned to flee to a cabin at an undisclosed location in Vermont.
