I have a theory and I may risk insulting some Adirondack campers, but I wonder if a lot of folks who choose to live in such a remote location would be sympathetic to the escapees. The residents mind their own business, they seem to be used to people breaking into their cabins, they may have a mindset that would "root for the underdogs." They may be, or have been, in a similar situation at some time in their lives. They may not be strict, law-abiding types themselves.

Yep they be backward up there in the north country. If you be a revenuer don't come calling' but if you be a raping, murdering, cop killing, dismembering good 'ol escapee we gots biscuits an gravy waiting on ya…we'll leave the light on boys.

Well if they really have dogs on the sniff I imagine they would be found in no time. I don't think that they have died. JMO

About 20 years ago my mother and I were visiting family friends and she let some of them take me out on the motor boat. When we returned I showed her a bottle of water I had brought back with me full of "Canadian water". It was a novel thing to just motor to the far end of the lake and back, it was just open water, maybe the boat driver had some way to know where the "line" was but for me as a child I had no clue.

It kinda goes right through the middle of the lake, about 20 miles north of my house, but I don't think there's anything out there in the middle of the lake marking the border.
