"State Police Major Charles Guess said the search efforts had moved after police found items dropped by David Sweat and Richard Matt in a cabin and field north of their last suspected location. The findings, combined with other evidence, give investigators "a high degree of confidence" that the men may be making a run for the border.

Guess said that authorities in Canada are setting up picket lines at the border but he added, "We have no reason to believe they are in Canada yet."

Guess wouldn't reveal what evidence was connected to the men, but said that they presume the escapees are traveling under the cover of darkness."

The information Guess alluded to having that suggests M & S are headed into Canada, wonder if that came from the cabin on Saturday?

If so, was it accidentally left as the man reportedly saw someone run out the door? Or, was it accidentally on purpose left to throw LE off the inmates trail? Hmm. . .

For me, this case has too many coincidences, near misses, and unverified outside help.

Anyhow, I am GUESSING, from the press'er, and from the posts here, that one of the 2 dropped a cell phone!! and so cop'pers got gps info' off it, and that's how cop'pers know those 2 are headed to Canada - 'following the North Star', aha !!!

Hmmmm - about that travelling at night.......... hmmmmm - it would seem to me that area is super duper dark, so it's not making sense to me how they could get anywhere except wind up with bumped heads and poked eyes and tripping, etc. ?????

I'm wondering if LE no longer possesses anything with a fresh enough scent. The scent from the boxers or sock found in the cabin a week ago is probably useless now.

Hopefully something that was left behind at this second cabin includes an article of clothing or something with their scent on it.

I know this sounds really gross...but could dogs get a scent from the feces? :thinking:
I mean, my dogs always think they have to go smell it.

Police have confirmed DNA from escaped killers Richard Matt and David Sweat at two more camps in Franklin County, the Press-Republican has learned.

And authorities believe the men intend to escape into Canada.

DNA had already confirmed that Matt and Sweat broke into a hunting camp in Mountain View last Saturday.

Forensic confirmation came back Thursday that proves Matt was in a second cabin, this one in the Town of Malone, informed sources tell the Press-Republican.

Signs of intrusion were found, and a sample of feces was tested.

DNA confirmation from a third site, also in the Town of Malone, came today.

Long time WS lurker but had to reregister to post because I couldn't remember my registration info. Anyway, having a hard time getting anything done trying to keep up on this thread/case! How do you all do it?!

I live about 30 miles east of the prison in VT so finding this pretty close to home! Hearing about the NNW track made me remember that my husband has family in Fort Covington, NY right on the CA border near Malone. Someone brought up the Akwasasne reservation being on the border and that potentially being a unique issue. Hubby's relatives sold their farm to Mennonites a few years back and say that it's getting common for Mennonites to settle up that way as land is cheaper than in areas they've previously traditionally settled. I don't know a lot about Mennonites but am concerned that they may not be listening to the news as closely if they aren't big on technology, or is that more the way of the Amish?

This is a very good article from June 12th, with a lot of good info about Sweat's and Matt's background. Matt is very familiar with hopping trains and he has crossed from the U.S. into Canada before going across the Niagara River via a railroad bridge.
