TWCNews (local station) Live - We have confirmed that the weapon Richard Matt was carrying was a shotgun. That's the very same weapon that LE did not deny may have been taken from a hunting cabin where they initially found DNA.

"The gunfire we've been told is happening as we speak"..."if Sweat is the one who is in there it would seem he is trapped"... "we have just learned Gov. Cuomo will be holding a briefing at 8:30pm Eastern in Malone, we are going to make an effort to bring that to you live, and speculation was that the governor would not make a final appearance or statement on this so to speak unless there was some kind of resolution in this case so we can reasonably assume that this situation may be drawing to a close" (paraphrasing last 10 words or so)...

I keep reading that a fire fight has broken out between Sweat and LE. Has anyone seen it on a major network?
It might be someone confusing NY Fire blocking civilians off a road while LE is hunting for Sweat. I think Keshia accidentally said "Firing" instead of "Fire" in a tweet.

TWCNews (local station) Live: "My source reiterating moments ago that David Sweat is close, would not go into further detail but our sources have also been telling us that there is a gun battle and he is cornered right now not far away from where it is believed that Richard Matt was shot and killed and now we are just waiting to see how this situation plays out... speculation they'll both die and we'll lost a lot of the info about the who what and why of the escape.."

"One of the unanswered questions for so long were they together, did they separate, now we can say they have been together all this time, these 3 weeks, and now David Sweat, alone, surrounded by police.."

The Governor should fly in. This mess happened on his watch. It is my understanding that the escape was facilitated by two employees now in police custody. What do budget cuts and staffing shortages have to do with it? Poor leadership is resolved by firing poor leaders. Blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the employees and those who failed to supervise them. I've worked in a state corrections department in a men's maximum security prison. The Governor visited the prison several times because the staff are his employees.

If I was a taxpayer, I'd be far more concerned about the fact that this escape happened and less about the cost of an airplane that is probably owned by the state anyway.

JMO

Budget cuts and staffing shortages are responsible for a lack of supervision and change in oversight of the prisoners. Yes, the staff are the gov.'s employees but the show tonight is not about taking responsibility. It will be "the good job and we will get to the bottom of this" speech. We can agree to disagree. Not worth my money, IMHO.

Oh, and maybe Tillie should be charged with Matt's death, he wouldn't be dead if she hadn't helped them escape.

Early on, one of the guest lawyers on can't remember which news station said that Tillie could have her charges upped if ANYONE was hurt or killed, including the escapees, because of her material assistance in the escape. Not sure about a homicide charge, but certainly as a helper in the furtherance of a crime. JMO

from Radio95.1 Twitter (url link won't work for some reason)

BREAKING NEWS: Confirmation that David Sweat the 2nd inmate is dead after a hail of gunfire. Both inmates confirmed dead.. The chase is over

I think she could be charged with felony murder since death occurred from the results of a felony act.

Tweeters are saying Sweat is dead. Another said the scanner said they asked for an ambulance.

Here's a readio station's tweet.

She's certainly not guilt-free, but the convicted killers could have come out with their hands up at any time.

They chose their fate.

MSNBC showing the inside of the cabin S & M broke into. Cabin was owned by 3 Clinton CO's and 3 from Upstate correctional, it was one of the Upstate CO's that discovered that the cabin had been broken into! Hmmm?

It was suggested that this cabin is not easy to find, nothing you would stumble upon. Also had beds and plenty of food.
