GUILTY NY - Several people hit by box truck in NYC; at least 8 killed, several injured, Oct 2017 *arrest*

I wonder if, when Saipov recovers from his injuries (why couldn't he have done himself first?) he'll be deported back to Uzbekistan

He would be tried in America probably in federal court. Likely ended up in the ADX Florence Supermax.

NYC terror suspect Saipov a 'mother's boy' who wanted to come home
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...ipov-mothers-boy-who-wanted-to-come-home.html

Of interest.

In at least one regard, Mr. Saipov appears to share a trait with some other terrorist suspects who struck on U.S. soil: He failed to achieve personal and career ambitions in the U.S. and became embittered, say those who know him.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older of the two brothers who planted bombs at the Boston Marathon in 2013, had hoped to compete as a professional boxer before falling into extremism.

The New York-born Omar Mateen, son of Afghan immigrants, killed 49 people in the Pulse nightclub in 2016 and had hopped from job to job before radicalizing online, authorities said.

Ahmad Khan Rahimi, who was convicted last month in the 2016 bombing in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, was also part of the “bridge generation,” a term used by Muslim leaders for young people struggling with their identities to be both Muslim and American.

These terrorists feel like failures in life, which fuel their never ending resentment.

I would not be surprised if Sayfullo Saipov is an injustice collector, a vicarious injustice collector.

In NYC alone the NYPD have found, arrested, 33 Islamic terrorists who have been convicted of plotting to carryout terrorists attacks against the citizens of the US. That does not include the one that carried out his vile acts on Halloween.

While it is true that there has been fanatical christian extremists who have murdered due to their religious beliefs it cannot begin to compare to the lives taken by Islamic extremists who did the same in the name of their religion.

The abortion doctor killer (SR) was a christian extremist and Rudolph was most likely one too along with being anti-government, but neither were mass murderers since SR killed one and ER killed one and maimed one. The FBI defines mass murder where more than four victims were involved.

JMO

Timothy McVeigh( Christian Identity and Turner Diaries ) Jim Jones ( Peoples Temple Diisciples of Christ).yes, Jones was not on US soil, but his adherents were US citizens.

Sister of NYC Truck Attack Suspect Says Family Shocked, Never Noticed Extremism
by Vladimir Banic and Phil Helsel

The sister of an Uzbek man accused in the New York City truck attack that authorities say was inspired by Islamic State videos says the family is shocked and he never expressed extremist views to them.

Suspected attacker Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov "never had any extreme ideas before," his sister, Umida Saipova, who lives in Tashkent in Uzbekistan, said in a text message to NBC News.

"What happened in the USA was a shocking event for us and a shocking experience for our family," she said. "Certainly, we want to go to USA to help our brother and for a legal case to be justified if possible." ..

I agree about the first being a rare Christian terrorist. Rudolph, however, I am not so sure.

Rudolph was not actively religious and though he may have sympathized with Conservative Christians, he did not seem to identity as one. Most, if not all of his justifications were secular: “ I hate the government, liberals (abortion is a liberal policy?) and the NWO”. I would move him into the “maybe” category.

In short, Rudolph seems more like McVeigh. At the time of his attack, McVeigh was an avowed atheist who was sympathetic to the Branch Davidians only for political purposes. McVeigh did, however, revert back to his birth church (Catholic) a few days before his execution and requested a presence of a Priest before the execution and a Catholic burial.

NYC bike path terrorist who killed eight defends ISIS and invokes ‘Allah’ at court hearing

"The man who drove a truck onto a crowded New York City sidewalk killing eight people and injuring a dozen more defended ISIS and invoked “Allah” during a court hearing over the weekend.

A U.S. District Judge has set his trial date for Oct. 7, nearly two years after the deadly attack, CBS News reported....

In his most recent court appearance, Saipov said that the prosecutors’ decisions during his trial were unimportant to him and that he cared only about “Allah” and the holy war being waged by ISIS....

Saipov went on for about 10 minutes using a translator, during which time Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Beaty called on the judge to stop Saipov’s “terrorist propaganda” comments.

The judge allowed Saipov to finish and declared that the man likely would not be allowed to speak out in court again....

Saipov said during an earlier court appearance that he may plead guilty to all counts and seek a life sentence instead of the death penalty."

Bus matron hurt in NYC terror attack sues over injuries

August 9, 2018

"The bus matron whose vehicle was hit by a rental truck allegedly driven by West Side terrorist Sayfullo Saipov in last Halloween’s bike-path attack is suing the city for $5 million over her extensive injuries.

Marierose Charles was riding on the special-needs school bus with two students and the driver when Saipov allegedly barreled into them at West and Chambers streets on Oct. 31, 2017....

Charles underwent surgery for fractured right ribs, lumbar spine injuries, a collapsed lung and damage to her right shoulder, her attorney Lawrence Krasin told The Post.

Her new Manhattan Supreme Court suit faults the city for failing to install barricades that would have prevented vehicles from entering the bike lane.

It wasn’t until the day after the deadly Halloween horror that city transportation workers finally installed concrete barriers at over four dozen intersections along the highway...."

Feds seek death penalty for NY bike path rampage suspect

SEPTEMBER 28, 2018

"(CNN) — Federal prosecutors will seek the death penalty against the suspect in New York’s deadliest terror incident since 9/11, an attack that left eight people dead when a box truck went down a bicycle path....

In a court filing Friday, prosecutors said Saipov, 30, committed the crimes “in an especially heinous, cruel and depraved manner.” They also cited his alleged support of the Islamic State and lack of remorse.

The suspect’s attorneys said in a statement that they were disappointed.

“We think the decision to seek the death penalty rather than accepting a guilty plea to life in prison with no possibility of release will only prolong the trauma of these events for everyone involved.”..."

Shocked they are?

They are always shocked.

In some cases, the families could well be telling the truth.

Not all terrorists have a long history of religious extremism. Likewise, not all follow the pattern of: looking for a new identity, a religious conversion, then a quick plunge into say, "The Jihad Journey".

Rather, an Israeli study revealed that a good number are simply not religious people. Instead, they are approached by extremists and then agree to commit religious terrorism / or make an independent attack for a variety of reasons: anger at the world, depression, romantic frustration, a desire for attention etc.

Take for example, the Las Vegas rampage shooter. People described him as a life long self absorbed low level jerk with a shallow but not exploitive personality. He had no history of violence, threats, extremism etc. We all know people like this, yet SP went on a rampage for an inexplicable reason.

Or the man who swore allegiance to ISIS and then attacked Club Pulse: Non practicing Moslem, drank alcohol, patronized gay bars, wife did not wear hijab, let alone face veils. Like SP from Las Vegas, he was described by some as a life long low level jerk w/o SP's intelligence or financial success. Even still, the attack was not predicted by anybody.

Of course, some terrorists do follow the predictable pattern.

Bill aims to strengthen rental truck ID requirements

"Truck rental businesses would be required to verify the identification of their customers under legislation being introduced Wednesday on the first anniversary of the West Side bike path terror attack.

The bill by Councilman Donovan Richards (D-Queens), chairman of the Public Safety Committee, would require anyone renting a truck, van or SUV that holds 10 or more passengers to present their driver’s license and prove their signature is the same as on the license.

“Terrorist truck attacks have become more and more common, so we felt it was necessary to ensure that we place every layer of protection possible to prevent another attack in New York City,” said Richards....

Sayfullo Saipov stands accused of killing eight people in an ISIS-inspired attack in lower Manhattan last Halloween, using a truck he rented at a Home Depot in Passaic, NJ.

Home Depot has come under fire for not screening Saipov more carefully when accepting his Florida driver’s license."

Revelers kick off NY Halloween parade amid tight security

"NEW YORK — Costumed revelers celebrated Halloween in a jittery New York on Wednesday with the city’s police department out in force as precaution a year after the holiday was marred by a deadly truck attack.

Thousands of uniformed and plainclothes officers were on hand for the city’s big Halloween parade in Greenwich Village, a crowded, jubilant affair in which both marchers and spectators come in costume. This year they were joined by counterterrorism and crowd control units, rooftop observers, police dogs and helicopters....

Earlier on Wednesday, city officials took heat for botching a ceremony meant to honor the victims. Officials closed the ceremony without reading the names of the eight dead. A police officer scrambled to the podium as the small crowd was dispersing, and Mayor Bill de Blasio raced up to apologize and read the names.

De Blasio attended the ceremony alongside emergency responders, a small group of family members and friends and the consuls general of Argentina and Belgium.

A wreath of white roses was placed at the site of the attack and a minute-long moment of silence was observed...."
