Schumer warns Trump against cutting anti-terror funding

The latest terror attack in London should convince President Trump to nix his proposed cuts to anti-terror funding for New York and other US cities, US Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Sunday.

“I can’t figure out why they proposed cutting anti-terrorism funds in the budget, but I certainly hope that the horrible incident that occurred last night and in recent months in Europe will get the president to reverse his decision,” Schumer told reporters, referring to a plan to cut 25 percent from funding for the NYPD and FBI for anti-terrorism training, security and intelligence.

The Trump budget proposal would reduce anti-terrorism funding to New York City by $150 million, according to the senator.

“It is not an accident that — praise God, knock wood — that we haven’t had a successful terrorist attack in New York City since the horrible days of 9/11,” Schumer said, crediting the “the men and women of the FBI, the CIA, the NSA and the New York police department” with preventing additional attacks.

Schumer raised similar objections to budget cuts when President Obama proposed reducing the program, known as the Urban Area Security Initiative, last year.

Schumer also sent his condolences to the people of London and the victims of Saturday’s attack and their families.

Hopefully, this administration will think about laying off the blame game, the politicizing of virtually everything, as NYC is suffering today. NYC is one of our, if not the most vulnerable city. These are Chuck Schumer's words after the London attack this past June. And his same objections extended to the previous administration as well.

While rethinking the larger picture of immigration reform, my hope is this administration will rethink the proposed drastic cuts that have helped train and coordinate agencies in counter terrorism.

An isolated incident as far as on that date, that time.

Exactly. This is why I question lone wolf. Per press conference the isis terrorist got his instructions to a tee from an online manual on how to commit a terrorist act. They also said he's been planning for a while.

It's burying your head in the sand to continue to call these terrorist attacks lone wolf attacks. IMO

No call from Trump.

why do these madmen come here and not enjoy our beautiful land?
just to have hate? for anyone?

he was SMUG and no shame, no remorse after he murdered and maimed innocent people.
Tells me that he is being a martyr for his idols somewhere.

Should have sent him back to his home town for surgery and I don’t mean Florida.

Although, I want to agree with you but if we did he could plot more terrorist attacks if we don't keep him incarcerated.

New York's Strict Gun-Control Laws May Soon Be Lifted By The Federal Government

WASHINGTON, DC — Strict gun-control laws enacted by New York state politicians in 2013, after more than two dozen school kids and staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary were shot dead by a crazed gunman, may soon be lifted by the federal government.

Could it be worth mentioning for good reason?

“A chilling photograph of an ISIS logo on a cell phone was taken just weeks ago in the exact spot where the Manhattan truck attacker mounted a bike path killing eight, it has emerged.

The image, posted two months ago, shows a man holding a phone on the corner of Houston Street and West Street in Manhattan with skyscrapers including 1 World Trade Center in the background.

On Tuesday, at the same spot, terrorist Sayfullo Saipov drove a hire truck on to West Side Highway before plowing down pedestrians and cyclists along a bike path.

I wish they could warn people, or just close the road or have extra undercover cops placed in that area. I suppose they had no idea what date though.

HOW NYC TERROR SUSPECT ARRIVED IN THE U.S.

"The New York terror attack suspect who plowed through bikers and pedestrians on Tuesday afternoon, killing 8 and injuring 12, arrived in the U.S. reportedly through a visa lottery program in 2010.

President Trump tweeted that Sayfullo Saipov entered the country with a Diversity Immigrant Visa -- a State Department-run visa program meant to diversify the flow of immigrants settling in the U.S."

I'd like to know if he met his wife here, in the U.S., or if she came over with him. Have there been any reports of interviews with her? I haven't seen any.

NYC suspect apparently plotted for weeks, attacked in name of ISIS: Official

https://www.yahoo.com/gma/nyc-terro...cial-says-123503133--abc-news-topstories.html

"He did this in the name of ISIS, and along with the other items recovered at the scene was some notes that further indicate that," John Miller, deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism of the NYPD, said this morning on the attack that killed eight. "He appears to have followed almost exactly to a 'T' the instructions that ISIS has put out in its social media channels before with instructions to their followers on how to carry out such an attack."

“Pro-ISIS channels have been sharing propaganda praising the New York terror attacker after he killed eight people in Manhattan yesterday.

Posters commemorating the attack were uploaded online featuring images of the Statue of Liberty exploding and pictures of the carnage caused by 29-year-old Uzbek terrorist Sayfullo Saipov.

While some praised Saipov's actions - calling him a 'brother' - others mocked the low death toll and said they 'would have picked a bigger street'.

This attacker deserves to be some large, bullying prisoner's "girlfriend" in prison.
But with his face -- doubt that's going to happen.

ISIS is not going to 'live forever'.
And neither is he.

WTH? Have they forgotten already what weapon this Islamic terrorist used to murder innocent people in mass and injury several others? It sure wasn't done by his toy guns.

The better question to ask is why anyone is allowed into our country based on a lottery.

They should be much more concerned about completely vetting everyone who wants to come here than being political about gun laws when this terrorist murdered his victims with a pickup truck and not guns. They cant help themselves though. They have to interject their agendas even when the attack had absolutely nothing to with the victims being shot. Do they plan on banning vehicles now?

This creep was on their radar. Truck rental companies need to be able to type identification into a system that will alert them and officials when someone on the radar attempts to rent a truck.
