NYPD investigators and the city’s medical examiner are still determining the cause of death and haven’t ruled out homicide, officials said. The medical examiner is still awaiting results from a toxicology test.

Ms. Rabkina, who lived with her grandparents at their home on Father Capodanno Boulevard in Staten Island, was known to frequent Long Pond Park in the Richmond Valley section of the island, a senior police official said.

Ms. Rabkina received Social Security benefits for a mental disability, the official said.

Rabkina was reported missing earlier this month by her family, sources with knowledge of the investigation told the Advance.

A flier has been circulating on Facebook from Rabkina’s friend, Anastasia Vasilchuk, stating the woman had not been seen since early November.

“My best friend has been missing since 8 a.m. Sunday, November 18th,” reads the public post from Vasilchuk. “Her phone has been off for the past four days and there is really no way to track her down.”

Law enforcement sources said that Rabkina was found in the park partially nude and with burn marks on her body.

An accelerant was found nearby, one source said.

Police have yet to determine if a fire burned her clothes off, and why she was found partially naked, sources said.

The body, when found by police, was also partially decomposed, a police spokesman said. A law enforcement source said the body may been in the woods for around two weeks before being discovered.

MYSTERIOUS DEATH

At this time, police have not deemed Rabkina’s death a homicide, said an NYPD spokesman.

However, law enforcement sources said police are investigating the death as “suspicious” due to where and how her body was found.

It still remains unclear when and how Rabkina’s death occurred, added the NYPD spokesman.

The medical examiner has yet to determine the official cause of death and the investigation is ongoing.

Rabkina would stop by the corner deli across the street from her Arrochar apartment building every morning for months on her way to work and buy a Red Bull, said the store clerk. She stopped coming for a few weeks recently, and when she returned, the clerk asked where she’d been. Rabkina responded that she’d been busy, and added, “I’m cutting down on Red Bulls.”

It was not clear whether the woman died before or after she was set ablaze.

A forensic anthropologist will be able to determine this. If a person is still alive but unconscious before they are burned, the burned body will assume a pugilistic posture. This term arises from the similarity of the posture to that of a boxer in the ring; the arms are raised up in a defensive position and the hands are tightened into fists. The legs may be bent into a defensive stance as well. As a body burns, the muscles contract and the flexor muscles, being stronger, overpower the extensor muscles, thus giving rise to the pugilistic position of the body. If a burned body is found with one or both hands with the fingers extended and not in the pugilistic position (as a fist), this would indicate that one or more of the three bones of the arm had suffered a fracture before the victim died. This fracture would most likely have occurred from some form of blunt force trauma or from a beating.
