I think any and all inquiry into the father is to fall into the trap. Please do not fall into the trap. Fathers dont kil their daughters. Looking at this case - to go there would be ... unthinkable. Common Sense.
Father , obvi, asleep at that hour. Timed perfectly by BF. My ex girlfriend's dad was a big JOHN Daniels drinker - he would be out cold by 7pm every night. Like clockwork - certainly not up and about - alert and sober enmough to go driving around the neighborhood. Look at the two alternatives - it's madness to consider the father - your gonna drive me to drin k !!!!! Grrrr..... ( I know good intentions - and brainstorming, but its madness to go there, madness)

No-don't misunderstand-just a question regarding whether or not he was involved in her search that night. I wish the fiance had been questioned, but it looks like the police really never gave this a second look. The father couldn't have hurt her because last person to see her was the fiance-she left with him and never came back.

I think we are just trying to find out about ALL the people she knew, I don't think anyone is saying the dad is suspect, we are just trying to find out what her personal life was like and the people around her. Its strange that they would want no publicity, and the fact that she was depressed, makes me feel sad for her, any questions I have about her family are only to find out why this poor girl was depressed and not point fingers at anyone.

And a simple question re whether or not he was at the police precinct the following day to report her missing with Mom.

One thing is certain, I have removed my reading glasses this evening.

Window

4.5 hours - any way to find out if it was raining? Travel would be stifled due to slow moving traffic. But if we look at 4.5 hours - one could drive from staten island out to long island - say - to the area (as an example) where the long island strangler used to dump his bodies - near gilgo beach - AND back to staten island - in 2 hours. This represents a BIG -BIG window. Big-Big.

What are you guys thinking - how long to the poconos / mt areas in PA and back?

Respectfully BBM

I'm not ready to leave Staten Island, yet, without more basic information, answers and facts.

And, of course, a simple case map of SI.

Hi – I am a refugee from the SM thread. R.I.P. Sarah. -- I see really excellent sleuths here!

I read through this thread tonight. --Very mysterious. Seeing pieces and timeline form is so interesting. Here are some initial impressions and questions. Please forgive me if I am dense.

Sylvia--she sure is pretty. Are there any pictures of the fiancé, in 1975, especially?

My strongest impression is the fight with her father could be significant. His drinking and embarrassing her in front of her friends is significant. She was not talking to her father for 3 days and runs out on her fiancé after a fight? Was her fiancé like her father?

I am trying to get a sense of the surroundings. It is Saturday evening 1975, 6pm at the Island movie theater, 2875 Richmond Avenue, New Springville, NY 10314? Is that the exact location? Is it her home town, or in the vicinity of? --If she ran away, where would she run? ? Is this a town or a Mall setting?

It’s interesting to be thinking back to this era before GPS everything.

I am a few years younger than Sylvia and from NJ. As I think back to the 70’s, there were a lot of conservative kids. And, there were kids running away from home back then--trying to get as far away from the “establishment” as possible. There were cultish groups, as well. There is MOB activity, & NYC was edgy and very dangerous in parts. But this is Staten Island. I guess what I am wondering-- is her life conservative, contained to her neighborhood or did she venture in to Manhattan often, have connections there? -Music connections?

It’s so nice to see some of my fellow sleuths from SM’s thread here!! --I am hooked on WS! I have to get my life back in order after sleuthing non-stop for the last month or so, but I wanted to introduce myself and put some thoughts out there.

This is a thought-provoking and distressing “without a trace” disappearance.

I agree, its about the pieces of the puzzle

I find the no publicity thing hard to understand also

The private investigator was hired by her parents?

Interesting if he found anything and what that would be
Family had access to those reports, even if LE were not forthcoming

No, I am not suggesting he did. BF says he saw her last.. so unless she made it back home, thats very unlikely

But, you say "don't fall into the trap"
Was that part of the investigation or just the kind of gossip that often accompanies this kind of case?

There is obviously more to this story that we are unaware of. Until the whole picture of all the people can be explored, not sure I can move forward toward the ultimate goal of trying to find this girls whereabouts. It's kind of like a road block for me, pages are missing.

I understand what you are saying... huge gaps

Unlike other cases, this one is 38 years old and we have no MSM reports etc.

I do expect more information to come our way, at least I am hoping

I will pick apart what we have and I know we will all have hard questions

But the answers are very important to get to the big picture

I think we are in collection stage at the moment

A verified insider would make a difference

The PI report....

Saracen... Good to see you
Your logical thoughts on the little we have would be most welcome

I am only sitting on the sidelines here, but was her handbag found?, did it contain a dairy?, if so was there an entry that could have started an argument?

It is listed with the things she was wearing, so i am going to say no handbag found

I wonder.. about a journal or diary....

Yes PI report would be very helpful, and a Verified insider would make the info a little more credible IMO. Will hang in here for a little bit but with out more info not sure how I can help? Looking for facts on any thread I join, I could do without the theatrics, think I'm burnt out from the SM thread with that ;)

Maybe even a letter? its hard to remember, but this was in the days before cell phones ect; people communicated in a more evident way, the written word was used..

Then was it left in the car? it had to be somewhere, she was carrying a handbag, from my experience you could unlock the secrets of the universe with the contents of a womans handbag...

Think the report said when she disappeared she had her purse on her.

I lived on SI at the time but had not even started kindergarten yet when she went missing. From what I can recall, the theater was in a large shopping center near the mall, but not in the mall or even in the mall parking lot. It would have been quite a walk home from there, so if she did have any money whatsoever, and she got out of the car after an argument, she more than likely would have walked to one of the stores (or even the mall) to use a pay phone, but it sounds like she didn't call her parents - or maybe she tried, there were no answering machines/call waiting/etc then. Or she could have caught a bus anywhere along Richmond Avenue, and it would have taken her close to home.

If she did walk, the majority of her walk would have been on Richmond, which is a busy street, not a likely place for someone to grab her, especially when it was light out.
