Should have added above: jealous of her relationship with BF or and/jealous of her for other reason. Really wish we knew more about her campus life, four years, there is a lot that can happen in that amount of time, friendships made, friendships lost, people who come and go out of your life, so much we don't know. Has anyone come across a year book with her graduating class in it, looking for a picture of the band along with the names of members.

I certainly wish there was some news to report here-somebody somewhere knows something. I keep hoping that things are quiet because the police are working on a conversation with the last person to see Sylvia, but I suppose that is wishful thinking-I was reading a thread yesterday about a woman who disappeared in Pennsylvania in 1999, and commented there about this case. As I described Sylvia's disappearance, it just sounded so suspicious, and not at all like a willful disappearance by an adult who knew her own mind- how could the police look at it that way? I suppose that the police see, too often, that grown men and women do this (walking away) all the time, so to them it doesn't seem out of the question. The Pennsylvania case turned out to be a murder by the father-in-law, it looks like. Is it really a waste of resources to attempt to verify the facts, especially when the facts are stated by a BF/F with whom a woman has had a fight, or by an estranged husband and his family?

From what I understand, nobody ever heard SL say she was going to a movie. The only mention of a movie was by BF/F after she was missing. So yes I definitely have my doubts too.

I believe the facts dictate her parents were told by their daighter, SYLVIA LWOWSKI, that she was going to the movie house.

In other breaking news - We will have another mega-sleuth joining us soon - she is talented... and the more we can accumulate - the greater the team effort... I think the roster is golden... which, considering the circumstances of this case, is one thing I can smile anout (watery eyes) - thanks everyone for your time and your tact... as things can get touchy.

Now, let's get back to business.

I am going to listen to a copy of Tricia's show from Sunday - to see if Kimster and TT mentions the case...

Your admirer,

The Gajonka

Who are you asking posters to petition up to/for/against?

As if the idea is a waste>?

Obvi, the petition would represent a list of law abiding citizens who have a specific desire to learn more about what appears to be an INEQUITY of a job which LE is being paid to perform

Perhaps , they can teach us about LAWS... because many close to SYLVIA LWOWSKI already know enough about LOSS>.
**** INEQUITY - the state of being unfair or unjust

i'm happy to see that the charley project page was updated, and would be willing to sign any petition, to show how many people care about sylvia's story. Her case shouldn't even be a "cold case", as it seems that it was never given a proper investigation in the first place! :banghead: Let's make this year the year that she gets the justice she deserves. :rose:

i love you!

It explains why BF/F or someone said she got angry and threw her glasses against the dash.( only one witness to this)
If her glasses were broken, there would have to be an explaination given.

The question for me is... when did Bf/F give this statement and to whom?
Was it that night when he spoke to friends family?
Was it to the police when and if questioned?
I still don't understand why the glasses were not returned to her Mother, broken or not. Why would he keep them?
Who has them now?

Wouldn't a pair of broken glasses belonging to a missing woman who was last seen (AFAWK)by BF/F who says they argued raise a red flag?

Interesting... this is one of a number of obscure keys which represent value far greater than what we perceive.

Broken glasses.

Was the reward ever posted in any newspaper?

I finally got a chance to run this case past my police captain friend-no embellishments in the telling of the facts as we know them, and he said "how long has she been gone? I'd want to talk to the BF/F about this". He gave me a strange look when I said that there wasn't any evidence that she is living somewhere else, having never contacted anyone who knows and loves her. He doesn't work for the city of NY, so he can't really be of any help. I hope the mods don't delete my post!

Never give up hope of finding an answer...

A cold case from 1999. not as old as ours, but none the less, a cold case

http://wearecentralpa.com/fulltext-news?nxd_id=454482

Thanks for this hyper-link, DUSHI !!!

Parts I and II Consolidated here (SSL)

This case has a war-chest of information.

News reports like these should be printed at an unbound frequency.

The day has arrived that Altoona County has become the professor. The students...appear to be many ...

Lessons can be learned.

The promulgation of these developments must expand - why keep a file, a case on someone’s desk who is unable to complete the project. For years, FBI MASTERMIND John Douglas and his FBI profiling unit would travel to cities across the continental United States in order to introduce them to new methods, developments, and units of intelligence.

Many states have been first movers in developing laws to protect citizens.

New York, generally speaking in reference to an across the board perspective, has a good track record at being a first –mover. Note , first –mover is not the same as leader, although comparable.

The SYLVIA LWOWSKI case has a war-chest of information.

I am willing to wager my 1939 nickel ( I just found it the other day) that the Leighty Case from ALTOONA, PA, a pleasant city with a population of 127,000 in 2010, had its own little chest of information, too.

Gajonkanote:

… in ALTOONA, Pa, a pleasant city with a population of 127,000 people in 2010.

End of gajonkanote

The Altoona Officer from the Cold Case LE enforcement unit acted and asked for help using public appeal.

Before 9/11, NY LE had resources allocated toward managing the adverse impact organized crime inflicted upon citizens, small companies, and communities. The five families of the new York Commission had always represented a risk to the aforementioned entities. This can be evidenced by the budgted allocation of man power, hours, research and development of new techniques… new technologies. Other proof that I am making this ship up are the films produced by companies that have no desire to invite / green-light many new ideas – but prefer to recycle and re-film the same story, with the same plot, and the same climax just to make money from the younger sets of eyes and ears who have not seen a version of story they can relate to ( e.g.; Footloose, Red Dawn, Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw, Amityville Horror, etc). A bit OFF TOPIC, I know, but I want to be sure I can suppress any speculation which the G may be accused of.

After a devastating day, resources were correctly dedicated and steered toward building one of the best anti-terror, and bombing mitigation programs in the world.

After 10 years, NY LE released excellent news. An injection of resources back into the anti-organized crime unit resulted in what LE called “the biggest mafia round-up in New York history.” On June 20, 2011, 127 “mobsters,” as termed by Time Magazines news feed – dated June 20, 2011, were arrested in raids that took place in the early morning hours.
So, we have here a sort of – first mover type of report where NT LE appears to prove the postulate that they are worthy enough to be considered as good as their peers across the country.

New York could be the first state to ban any and all mobile phone use while driving (speaker phone).

New York has the best bagels

If NY bans big gulps, three other states have commissioned observers to report if they need to do the same. If it bloomy’s petty prop passed, they were ready to piggy-back… I guess they either like the idea or the mayor.

NY baned texting while driving in the second wave – after the first wave which included a handful of states – although Minnesota and a handful of other states were the first movers – signing laws in 2008.

New York City enacted the first ban on handheld cellphones in 2001 (while driving)

You’d figure, an Altoona LE officer coming up to New York to solve a cold case laced with yellow flags… which, optically could involve foul play, one would figure it could make for a good script.

We’d cast Tommy Lee Jones as the Central PA, middle level Cold case ethical LE (also brave and justice driven ( a +ive), like ALL LE are - or they would not be practicing what they ptactice everyday - this is not a nanti-LE knock - but just saying.... its a bit bizarrew aht happened here) who travels to Manhattan to ”assist” with the investigation of a cold case involving an innocent, beautiful 22 y.o. woman. There he meets a defensive, arrogant, uncooperative, and unfriendly officer, etc. Maybe Benny Del Toro would be a good pick to play the prick, or maybe Sean Penn, as the protagonist who is naturally uncomfortable when actions occur which offer subtle criticism about his ability, his work speed and efficiency

RE: The Leighty Case…. These types of News reports like these should be printed at an unbound frequency.

So here we have an area – an exposed weakness – ny’s le cold case department is under performing.

I am entranced at how this case rests – somewhere in a digital file somewhere –

It’s time to let the dogs out.

“Who Let The Dogs Out?”

I'm not sure if you read the whole Sherry Leighty thread. For years Sherry's family went through the same thing - police not returning their calls, wouldn't give them any information, wasn't talking to any witnesses even though her family was giving them ideas of people to talk to, etc. It was only in the last few days that a light bulb suddenly turned on in Altoona.

If nothing else, I think the Altoona PD's errors in saying "There's nothing to investigate, she's an adult and free to leave" only to now be inserting their proverbial feet in their proverbial mouths while searching for her body on a farm, should be a lesson to NYPD.

Just because there's no 'evidence' of a crime doesn't mean there wasn't one and especially after 38 years, but if nobody is pressuring them, if they aren't looking lazy in the eye of the community, and if they aren't receiving public criticism, they tend not to act.

Speaking of public criticism, I posted something about this article on another thread.

http://www.concordiasentinel.com/news.php?id=6830

Edwards' case was never solved, his body never found and his life forgotten by all but family and friends.

But in 2007, Edwards' name was resurrected in an article published by the Concordia Sentinel. Later, after the Syracuse College of Law Cold Case Justice Initiative advocated a new look at the murder, the FBI added his case to a long list of other unsolved Civil Rights era murders that it promised the nation it would attempt to resolve.

Since 2007, the Sentinel has identified 10 individuals with information about this decades-old case. The group includes three retired FBI agents, two key witnesses, a forensic pathologist, a suspect and others who knew Edwards, saw Edwards and talked to Edwards around the time of his disappearance.

But the bureau never contacted any of them during its current probe.

Now five of these individuals are dead and Edwards' sister, optimistic three years ago that justice would be served, isn't so sure anymore. She and others say the FBI is showing little initiative in its own campaign to solve these decades old murders.

bbm

It is seriously the best missing person cold case article I have ever seen (and I've seen plenty). This author is a good example of what investigative journalism is supposed to be. This writer gives law enforcement the chance to act through private conversations, and when they refuse, he makes sure the whole community knows about it through his articles, which in turn sparks a public outrage that they can't just ignore.

I wish he would cover more missing persons cases.

I know... it happens
Hopefully it will come back

I just don't understand why nobody seems to care about this woman, other than the people here-what is that all about? Aren't there any NYC police who are at all interested in what happened to Sylvia? I don't think I have ever invested so heavily in a missing person case. I am praying that she is finally found, but it won't happen if nobody is looking for her!

I agree - especially when a reward is offered and they don't publicize it whatsoever. That speaks volumes, IMO...
