The Charley Project site has been updated, removing all mention of Sylvia's glasses-finally!

You beat me! I was just going to post that. LOL. Yes, the CP administrator emailed me this morning and apologized for how long it took. If you read her blog, you'll see she was sick all last week, on the heels of her computer woes. It happens -- usu. when you least need it to, right? All's well that ends well.

(1) She appears to have erred on the side of caution and removed ALL reference to the glasses, which I am fine with -- as they telegraph more than can be verified.

(2) It looks like she chose to keep the BF/F's name, which she is well within her right to do, given the engagement announcement. Because the unverified glasses details are no longer there, the description as a whole no longer suggests that he was anything but her BF/F. Since we don't know that he was, I am okay with that. As I've said before, regardless of what anyone thinks, myself included, innocent until proven guilty.

Finally!

Well it appears I was roundly defeated. I did put a link to the video and the interview on a board that you can ask lawyers questions about. I'll see what that answer is. I admit I was wrong in the argument here.

BBM: Thanks for that, Steely Dan.

No one spoke out publicly for Sylvia Lwowski for over 35 years, and that includes more than simply one individual.

That is a truly good point. More than one person has been silent about what happened to Sylvia. We may not know the reasons for each of them, but it is something to think about.

Hmm-I went and looked at Sylvia's Charley Project page, and once again, it contains the info about her glasses. What is that all about?

Never mind-now it's back to the most recently updated version

If your computer memorized the old location, you might have had to refresh to see the new content again.

MMQC-when BF/F came to your house that night, he never got out of the car, right? I was fiddling around, looking at a site featuring the Staten Island Greenbelt, with all of its attendant overgrowth and moistness, and it made me wonder if he was sweaty or otherwise disheveled?

ASWDH-same question for you-was he rumpled or out of sorts appearance-wise?

You are correct about never getting out of the car. He drove up, rolled down the passenger side window said they had a fight and could I go and pick her up by the mall. It was such a brief encounter that I could not tell if he was disheveled etc.

Thanks, MMQC-What manners! I get a visual of someone who might pull up to pick a girl up, and honk the horn to announce his arrival, and his expectation that she should hurry out to the car!

I realize that my question wasn't one that could really have an answer, since it's been 38 years, and at that moment when he showed up at your house, you didn't know that it would be significant to notice. Was it his normal behavior, or did you make a mental note about the rude delivery of such news, and the request for you to go and search for Sylvia? I have gotten the impression that you thought he was crass, and may not have been surprised at his behavior?

So sort of recapping (for me)

Sylvia had graduated from Wagner before disappearing
Ready to start a new life

Well, IMO: It has been a bewildering month or so here on the SL thread taking to task the publishing of verified vs. unverified information: the eyeglasses variations, the Charlie Project update and correction, and an ill-fated video interpretation of a radio broadcast; a broadcast which stood powerful all on its own. -After all the feedback, I am so surprised the interpretation is still there…

I remember reading Sylvia loved to collect ocean specimens, sea horses, star fish, and shells. Her love of nature is perhaps a clue in her disappearance. Sylvia was a musician. Sylvia was a young woman emerging in her 20's; beautiful, smart, and somewhere there is a clue, whether it is in her relationship with her BF/F, or someone else… Who else knows that her BF/F could do, would do, or did her mortal harm? How does her "in love" engagement lead to her disappearance without a trace? -To telescope the BF/F with little evidence other than he was the last “known” person to see her is perhaps to forsake the wide angle view? There was silence after her disappearance, but there were many people in her circle in the days and events leading up to her disappearance.

How close was the bus station to the mall?

MMQC, can you clarify a couple of things for me about the conversations you had with SL's BF/F after she disappeared?

(1) Did you get the impression (or did he say) that LE had recently contacted him? I think you said at one point that you think a reason his mother was having a "breakdown" could be that she was afraid he'd be arrested. Do you think that's why -- because LE called or showed up at the house?

(2) One thing you mentioned he said during one of those conversations was (BBM) "he had given her a very expensive ring and she takes off." Did you happen to ask him (or did he say) why he thought she "took off"?

Thanks :)

Skeet, I remember bookmarking this map when looking up archival maps a while ago. Here is 1977 Staten Island Bus Map. It looks like the bus stopped at the mall, or was not far from the mall. The URl takes you to a sub chat page of the Bus Chat blog! -Map is at top of page.

Ok, thanks Rose, I know MMQC had said the BF/F had asked her to pick up Sylvia from the bus station, so saying that he asked her to pick her up near the mall also makes sense if the bus station was close to the mall. I wonder, since he said she jumped out of the car near a stop sign/stop light, what street that was and how far she had to walk to get back to the mall/bus station?

Skeet-I think I recall that she got out of the car on Richmond Avenue. When I have a chance, I'll see if I can find where I saw that.
