I'm not too worried about the range for year of birth-the authorities are so often wrong when they find skeletal remains. If they say that the UID has to be at least 17, and the earliest birthdate can be 1961, that gets us to 1978-close to Sylvia's year of disappearance. So I don't think they can be sure for remains that can possibly be that old, unless the building being demolished isn't older than 1978. Having said that, I don't believe this will end up being identified as Sylvia, because I still think she's on Staten Island, or no farther away than Hart Island.

Nothing to add-just bumping Sylvia up to the top.

And Lawrence County, OH is about a 9 hr drive from SI.

I've asked a few times what other states she, or others she was friendly with, may have had any connections to, but no response.

Curious-when someone's listed twice as a rule-out, that just means they've been submitted twice for consideration?

I've wondered also. Thought, perhaps, human error or glitch in system.

Wish there was more information as to what was in the safe, thinking there had to be more then just a few pictures.

Skeet, I'll bet you're right-this is why I am waiting with great curiousity to see what her brother does next. He doesn't have any official assistance and so he has to be imaginative in how he proceeds. I just hope he doesn't get himself into legal trouble because of it. I think he had a lot to do with Steely Dan's youtube video as well.

Perhaps, he's put in the hands of a top-notch private investigator.

Wonder why this one hasn't been ruled out? Skull only, found in Hunter, NY.

Prior to being placed into NamUs, UIP was estimated to be 25 yo on the lower end.
NamUs now: minimum 30 yo.

Eye shape, distance between the eyes, cheekbones, width of the lips, nose...good enough IF you compare to SL's younger photos: the blond photo and the other younger one where she is wearing purple pullover sweater. (Jaw is more squared off in reconstruction though, imo.)

Doe: Prob YOD: 1980-1990
NamUs: Blank to 2002; Post-mortem interval: years

Could it be as simple as nobody submitted Sylvia for consideration? I would assume that the authorities try to make these matches, but maybe she was never considered. I don't recall ever seeing this UID before, either. This match makes some sense, even if the minimum age is thought to be 30.

How accurate are the reconstructions that are done with a skull? I remember hearing that the late Frank Bender was a genius with his. Of course, without knowing how heavy a person might have been, that will make it more difficult. This reconstruction of the skull found in Hunter NY looks like she had more prominent cheekbones than Sylvia, but that just might be the artist's rendition.

Bbm: Agreed - physical characteristics are close enough - I was looking at this one too, last week. Given the date found, the age would be in range too.

I was sifting through the UIDs NY, NJ, PA - need to research and cross check further - but there seems to be a few possibilities, IMO. Maybe if we can get a list of a few possibilities together I can submit them to Kim - and follow up on the East Orange UID, too....

Since they don't list them in SL's NamUs Case file, a side list of rule outs would be handy at some point. It is good the rule outs are posted here as they are discovered. --SL's thread is like a central file.

I wonder how the crosschecking of the DNA databases works? Do they (NYPD-CCS) (NamUs) do that once a year, every few months, as the DNA results become available on UIDs? Same question for Hart Island....

According to this poster on the UIP Hunter, NY Thread, in March 2013 No Rule-Outs were listed. Now there are 98 Rule-Outs. Case was only entered into NamUs in Jan 2012.

In the UIP Westchester County, NY which Skeet linked, UIP was discovered in 1988, probable year of death 1988 and a postmortem interval of 6 hrs, maximum age 25:

SL would have been about 35 yo in 1988.

Yet they felt it warranted to list SL as ruled-out.

Is there some indication that she could have left on her own (prob year of death 1988) that they ran that one through?

Sylvia was ruled out as the Jane Doe from Suffolk Cty found April 1978; DNA test haven't been completed on this, so she must have been ruled out by dentals (unless there is something else that contradicted a match).

Jmoose - are you referring to this UID? (see link) Or, another one? I don't see where she is ruled out. This UID was found April 1996. Also, no dental charting.
