Thanks Jmoose--that would be great. :star1:

-Maybe Sylvia thought she was pregnant... important to keep in mind when searching the UPs, too.

Perhaps, that's why Sylvia was reacting emotionally shortly before her disappearance in July 1975 when MMQC's niece was born.

Additionally, BFF stated BF/F told her on a phone call that he had been duped, PR states SL was "depressed (prob from EL)," "No publicity" was requested by EL, SL had been sexually active and pregnant prior to BF/F, we have heard more than once that she turned men's heads, could melt men with her smile, had a great figure and had not been on the BC pill even after the earlier termination.

Is it possible that she had or was moving on to another lover, or committed an indiscretion and got caught, had to come clean, simply wanted out of the engagement or became suicidal seeing no way out?

Pregnancy, but not by her BF/F, could explain the shutdown by both sides here, by all parties involved.

LE, BF/F and IMO, EL knew what the argument was about that evening, and it wasn't over what film they might see.

I hope by keeping the thread active we will be able to find out more answers. It had to be something life changing to set those wheels in motion.

Why would they even schedule a deposition for MMQC in 2010 if they had no new evidence. That would be a waste of time right? So what did that have that was new? ALSO, when she couldn't make it to that appointment, why didn't they reschedule, or do a deposition over the phone. Secrets here, time to wipe the dust off them, otherwise there is not much hope sad to say.

I think the reason for the deposition was not because of anything new, but rather because Sylvia's brother tried to get something going , and made it clear that she (MMQC) had something to add. The police chose not to follow up when she couldn't come to NYC, likely because they weren't exactly in the process of trying to solve anything here (since the opportunity to do so was lost in 1975). The police weren't driving this in 2010, or really at any point, in my opinion, and maybe they also knew that a deposition with MMQC wouldn't ultimately help, because there was no longer any evidence to be had. We don't have access to that info, but I am personally certain that the fiance's car wasn't given a thorough search of the kind that could (not necessarily would) turn up some evidence of a physical altercation between those two. Interesting theory, you guys re: the possibilty that Sylvia could have been pregnant, and by someone other than her fiance. This could definitely have gotten all of the wheels we know in motion. In the 70's that would have been a gigantic scandal, wouldn't it?

Bbm: Yes, big time scandal. Maybe she was pregnant and if that was known, it's a clue; an important piece.

Bbm: So, this isn't an open "active" investigation with LE. -Would need a viable tip for that to happen. Didn't the Cold Case Squad spend a lot of time on this case? I would think they would want to interview everyone they could.

Bbms- think we're dusting off the thread...

IIRC - mmqc spoke to the detective (phone convo) and said she told them all she knew - isn't this when the ring rumor came up? Maybe that is what prompted her brother, and subsequent 2010 review of SL's case? Anyway, I do remember somewhere in thread 1 or 2, there is mmqc detail on her convo with Det. Savage.

You would think so, right? That has bothered me ever since MMQC said it, especially since Stacy Horn said that the Cold Case Squad spent a lot of time on the case. Maybe what MMQC has is hearsay and not actual evidence of anything-like hearing about the ring, but not seeing it?

I really wish we knew what the PI and Assistant DA found out.

ADA would be on record. So, Cold Case Det. knows -but we'll never know...

-Wonder if any the PI names on the list Odyssey obtained were recognized?

Yes, I would think cold case detective would especially want to interview those who were not interviewed in 1975. -I think that carries more weight than a ring rumor with no evidence.

I've made what I think is an interesting observation- i check here periodically to see if someone's posted anything; whenever there's nothing, there are no guests listed under browsers of this thread-just my member name. When someone starts the discussion up again, there's a guest. Is there some way of being notified when the discussion begins again, that I don't know about? No that can't be it, if one is a guest, and not a member...I am wondering who reads Sylvia's thread, besides us?

  • #914
I wonder who reads it as well, hoping a friend from Wagner, or someone else that knew her would join the thread and post or at the very least join the thread and PM one of us. This silence is crazy, someone besides her brother and MMQC had to at least hear the talk that was going on around that time. Someone besides those two hopefully cared about her and would care enough now to say something about her, she was real.

  • #915
It could just be a member who is not logged in. But that is an interesting observation!

  • #916
Yes-could be, Curiouser! I just wondered, because there rarely are guests on this thread, since it's so old.

  • #917
If you have the thread pulled up on a couple of different devices, could you be posting on one and a guest on another?
Three guests came on board recently when we were posting...

No idea-I wonder...

I'm not sure if it's just that these times could be very different from 1975, but I've lately been following a case (Shane Montgomery). This missing person is a 21 year old college student who disappeared Thanksgiving Eve, and from day 1, there was all kinds of publicity, FBI came in, searches were made by lots of professionals, etc. This family wanted, and got, lots of attention for their son-it's remarkable what this family's been able to do. I don't know if this would have been possible back in 1975, because it just isn't how LE handled missing person reports, but it seems to me that Sylvia's remains would or could have been found by now if they had some assistance by LE right after she disappeared. I am surprised that the Montgomery family was able to get LE to even consider asking for camera footage from local businesses, since he is an adult-hardly any younger than Sylvia was when she disappeared (I realize that in 1975, businesses rarely had cameras-not like now).

I just checked Rose's theory about guests and multiple devices...I have Sylvia's thread up on my Ipad and on my phone-0 guests. So it still could be members who are not signed in, or true guests reading the thread.
