NY NY - Sylvia Lwowski, 22, Staten Island, 6 Sept 1975 - #5

Thanks, good to hear someone did investigate. I haven’t checked in here for a while, and recently retired, so I am spending time trying to revisit some cases I had been following. Too bad the person who is likely responsible will get away with it. I found one of his family member’s on FB, along with family photos, and it appears he carried on with his life and never looked back. Very sad for Sylvia and her family.

He did, as you say, carry on with his life without even a brief look in the rearview mirror. I think we know essentially what happened to Sylvia-and so do the police, but because his car apparently hadn’t been searched, or maybe the forensics available at the time couldn’t detect enough evidence to arrest him

I wonder if there is a connection to confessed serial killer Cottingham? He had both NY and NJ connections and has recently confessed to additional murders.

I felt it was too many matches to not submit. So, hopefully either Ny or Nj cold case dept will look deeper into it. It's definitely worth further investigation.

Just wanted to make sure I understand this...The disappearance of this young lady was never a missing person case? Was never investigated? What little information that does exist, seems to be hearsay..and oddly, the whole reason it was never investigated was because it was deemed a "Voluntary Missing" case which..was all hearsay as well? Did I get that right?

Have these areas been searched?: 1.) Lemon Creek Park 2.) Wolfe's Pond Park 3.) Bloomingdale Park 4.) Latourette Park 5.) Seaview/Willowbrook Park 6.) Great Kills Park 7.) South Beach Boardwalk area 8.) Todt Hill Rd 9.) Fresh Kills area also I was wondering, where would the closest bus stop had been to Sylvia's house assuming she got a bus and got dropped off near her house? Where are the closest 3 secluded/wooded spots to her best friend's house?

Wow that’s a good find look how close Staten Island is to Lacey Township.

What were Sylvia's habits when she rode in the car in the passenger seat? Did she immediately put a seat belt on or did she typically leave it off? Where would she put her purse? Did she ever put her feet up on the dash or do her makeup in the car? Would she sing? Point out landmarks? Sit quietly or talk constantly? Can't remember but I think she did NOT smoke cigarettes right?

Don’t forget, this was the 70s, and you didn’t have to use a seatbelt-and most people didn’t. She allegedly did not smoke. That night she got ready at home, so it’s unlikely that she put her makeup on in the car, and she was wearing a skirt, so no feet on the dashboard.

Excellent point about the common lack of seat belt use back then. So IF strangled, IF loss consciousness, she would have fallen forward since no seat belt would catch her? Well, not necessarily because she could've fallen to the sides. hmm

I'm so curious about the night the BF/F came to Sylvia's house. Was he banging on the door, knocking softly, or did he just barge in? Was he angry, talking quickly and frantic, or was he not very worried? Did he sit down or stand? Did he wait nearby while Eva called the police? What did he say when he left to go home? Did he have to work early on a Sunday or something? Why didn't he go to the police station the next day with Eva? You would think that police would want to speak directly with the last person to have been with her. IMO he should've been the one to file the report. Eva wasn't there so how was she supposed to tell them what happened? Did he call the next day to see if she returned? Did he EVER call for updates?

The police tried to talk to the fiancé (last known person who saw her) but he refused to talk to them, and got a lawyer. And then went on with his life.

I don't think he's needed. Can't trust what the "Last to be seen with" says anyway. Thanks for responding btw. You're the best! You've been on this thread this whole time. I'm confused about the area. So SL and her friend went shopping where? Staten Island Mall or Hylan Plaza/Kmart plaza? And BF/F took her to a movie near the mall correct? or did she go to the same area twice in one day?

You know, I can’t recall where they shopped. I can find out but am too tired at the moment…I’ll have some time on Tuesday

MMQC mentioned that she was aware of the date SL had planned with BF/F but she did not know when/where. They are shopping at the mall/Kmart Plaza until 4 pm. SL is worried about being late for her date. Why? She's already there! SL and BF/F are attending a movie in the same area immediately after their shopping trip. If SL was aware that she would be going to the movies, why not just let MMQC wait with her until BF/F arrives. Put shopping bags in his trunk and head to the movies? Perhaps she wanted to go home and freshen up and put new stuff away. If SL knew she was going to the movies, I'm sure she would've specifically mentioned it since the biggest movie of the season was playing. Jaws was #1 for at least 8 weeks according to that cinematreasures website. Only one side of the theater was playing it. Lines would wrap around the building for it and it only showed twice in a day. You couldn't buy tickets online like you can nowadays, so you'd have to buy them in person which the possibility of them being sold out was very high. In that event, you'd have to get tickets to the next showing which could be the next day or two days from then. Imagine if he bought tix to surprise her and she ran late. Would he lose his mind about her lateness? Can't imagine that it's fun waiting in a long line just to enter. Jaws was a big deal. Crowded. Likely to see people you know. If she knew she was going later, she'd mention it to MMQC IMO.

She went home to change

If current owners allow, couldn't they do ground penetrating radar in BF/F old property? I'm pretty sure current owners of A-frame in Maura Murray case allowed a search with dogs and all that. Well..the current owners at that time which was years ago.

I suspect that he didn’t bring her back to his home-he could have taken her to NJ, Westchester, or Long Island in the time they were gone. Or handed her off to some other person. And I think the fiance had a relative in the NYPD.
