Records: Pelosi bargained for riches

By Samuel Bruchey

In the summer of 2003, Daniel Pelosi was terrified an indictment in the murder of Theodore Ammon could come at any time.

But his wealthy wife, Ammon's widow, Generosa, was terminally ill with cancer and wanted the unemployed electrician from Manorville out of her life....

Prosecutors hoping murder defendant talks his way to conviction

By FRANK ELTMAN

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- Danny Pelosi just can't seem to shut up.

The accused murderer whispers to supporters at his trial. He chats with journalists seated behind the defense table. He loudly swaps insults with his father in open court.

And that's not all. Prosecutors say Pelosi spoke about killing his lover's millionaire husband to another girlfriend; to his boss; to a handful of fellow inmates. All are providing damning testimony against the Long Island electrician, who might just talk his way into a life sentence.

"It's only the second inning. This is a long ball game," he optimistically declared last week on a day when his ex-girlfriend testified about his loose lips, detailing Pelosi's admission of guilt in the brutal slaying.....

PELOSI'S A GOOD FIT AS L.I. CASANOVA

BY ROBERT GEARTY
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Danny Pelosi's father never could figure out what Manhattan socialite Generosa Ammon saw in his ne'er-do-well son.
"I didn't know what interest she had in him," Robert Pelosi, a retired bank vice president, said when he testified at his son's trial for the murder of Ammon's financier husband, Ted.

But it was no mystery to Danny, the 41-year-old Long Island handyman who once bragged: "I was her man with a tool belt. I gave her what the rich man couldn't."...

PELOSI MURDER TRIAL

Hairs, blood were Ammon’s
Forensic scientist could damage defense claim of mystery killer

BY ROBIN TOPPING

November 2, 2004

A forensic scientist testified Monday that the only hairs found on Theodore Ammon's shoulder were Ammon's own -- dealing a potentially damaging blow to the defense theory that a mystery pubic hair belonging to the killer was discovered on the body but lost by police.

Donald Doller of the Suffolk County Police Crime Laboratory testified in the Daniel Pelosi murder trial in Riverhead Monday that he identified what initially appeared to be loose hairs on Ammon's left shoulder. But when he pulled on them with a forceps, he realized "it was the decedent's own hair."...

I think Pelosi is going to be found guilty. I bet it is a short deliberation for this jury. This guy is crass. No other word to describe him.

Thanks Lisa for the updates!

TELLTALE STAIN
by Kieran Crowley

A "detailer" who cleaned slain millionaire Ted Ammon's station wagon — at Danny Pelosi's request — testified yesterday that he may have seen blood in the car and joked that the stains may be connected to a killing.
Robert Henderschott said he was a partner in a car-cleaning firm in Center Moriches that washed and shampooed Ammon's 1995 Buick two weeks after the October 2001 slaying.....

Mystery Hair Was Victim's, Expert Says at Pelosi Trial
By PATRICK HEALY

RIVERHEAD, N.Y., Nov. 1 - At the opening of Daniel Pelosi's murder trial, his lawyer told jurors that a crucial piece of evidence for the defense would be a mysterious pubic hair found on the shoulder of the man he is accused of beating to death, but not collected by the police.

But on Monday, a Suffolk County forensics expert testified that the missing hair had actually been the victim's own, growing from his left shoulder. The expert, Donald Doller, said investigators did not collect the hair because it was attached to the victim, R. Theodore Ammon, a multimillionaire who had made his fortune on Wall Street during the 1980's.

Mr. Doller's testimony here in State Supreme Court could damage a defense theory that Mr. Ammon was secretly bisexual and had been killed by a gay lover inside his East Hampton mansion in October 2001. Prosecutors say Mr. Pelosi was a greedy opportunist who romanced Mr. Ammon's estranged wife, Generosa, then beat Mr. Ammon to death to get at his $80 million fortune....

Bloody Pelosi shocker

Jury told of red stains on car

Mechanic Ronald Barrette testified about Danny Pelosi's car yesterday at Long Island handyman’s murder trial.

Bloodstains were in the getaway car Danny Pelosi allegedly used to flee the East Hampton mansion murder of millionaire Ted Ammon, an auto detailer testified yesterday.
In another hit to Pelosi's case, a forensic expert disputed a key defense theory that a hair found on Ammon suggested the victim was killed by someone he picked up at a gay beach....

Jurors see model of mansion

BY SAMUEL BRUCHEY
STAFF WRITER

November 2, 2004

Jurors in Daniel Pelosi's trial for the murder of Theodore Ammon have been warned not to visit the sprawling estate where the millionaire financier was bludgeoned to death three years ago.

So prosecutors have placed a miniature version of the home inside the Riverhead courtroom.

Monday, jurors gathered around the 9-foot model of the second-floor as forensic scientist Donald Doller told them that Ammon was in bed when the brutal beating began, that one of the double doors to the bedroom was closed, and that a window opposite the bed was open and a screen removed.

Standing over the cardboard, fiber and balsa wood re-creation, Doller pointed out blood spattering on the outside and inside of a bedroom windowsill, atop a short stack of books on the floor, along a bench, and on the wall behind Ammon's bed.....

As she leaned into her brother Daniel Pelosi to give him a hug before he went out one October night three years ago, Barbara Lukert told a jury in Riverhead that she felt something hard underneath his leather jacket.

"I asked him what was going on," Lukert testified Wednesday at Pelosi's trial in the murder of Theodore Ammon. "He said, 'Just go to -- -- bed, Barbara, it's none of your business."...

SISTER OF NO MERCY

by Kieran Crowley

The day millionaire banker Ted Ammon was slain, Danny Pelosi took a mystery bag, which may have contained the murder weapon, from his sister's attic, she testified for the prosecution yesterday.
Barbara Lukert said that her brother first called her Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, and asked her to retrieve a bag he had left in her Center Moriches, L.I., attic and leave it outside her house for his friend, Chris Parrino, to pick up.

Lukert said she refused, and told her brother to come and get it himself....

Victim's Home Was Watched Using Video, Pelosi Sister Says
By PETER C. BELLER

RIVERHEAD, N.Y., Nov. 3 - On the night the multimillionaire R. Theodore Ammon was beaten to death, Daniel Pelosi, the man accused of his murder, used a remote video surveillance system to check on whether Mr. Ammon was at his East Hampton mansion, Mr. Pelosi's sister testified Wednesday.

Mr. Pelosi, an electrician, had overseen the installation of a sophisticated video surveillance system at the mansion that allowed him to see live video of the interior and exterior of the house via a laptop computer connected to the system by a modem.

Mr. Ammon and his wife, Generosa, were in the midst of a bitter divorce in 2000 when Mr. Pelosi met Ms. Ammon while doing renovation work at her Upper East Side townhouse. They began an affair and married three months after Mr. Ammon's death in October 2001. Prosecutors say Mr. Pelosi wooed Ms. Ammon and killed Mr. Ammon to get at his $80 million fortune....

Geesh! This trashy man's own family doesn't even want to stick up for him.

  • #177
i have to say i was in the court room yesterday and a couple of other days, you really don't hear everything that goes on. They seem just to report bits and peices and of course it is always the sensational things that end up in print. I didn't get the impression Ms Lukert was testifing against Danny, just what she knew about the relationship of Danny and Ms Ammon and of course the night that they assume the murder took place and the conversations between the two. Also, the blood specialist kept contradicting himself on the stand...imo.

So, shopgirl, tell us more about your observations and experiences out in Riverhead!

Barbara Lukert, sister to Danny Pelosi, was described as a "hostile witness" so I guess she was subpoenaed and required to be there to testify. Frankly, I think when it comes to evidence against him, that only adds to its credibility.

  • #179
She was subpoenaed, I beleive a few more family members will be also. I wouldn't say she is "hostile".
The courtroom has a very strange atmosphere..It goes from very intense one minute to light with laughter breaking out sometimes. Mr. Shargel seems to have a great presence in the court room. He seems very confident and really had the blood expert on the ropes yesterday, Ms Albertson seemed to shoot him looks of disdain when that was happening and tried to break the rhythm of Shargel and at one point asked to have the jury removed from the room.
Danny is also an interesting character, he does smile alot, especially at his family..

  • #180
Thanks for that report. What can you tell us about the jury? Will you be going back and attend another session? Do you live in Suffolk County?

As to the issue of Lukert's being a "hostile witness" that's a legal term that I was repeating from news accounts.
