Oh I'm so sad. On every one of these threads (and there are SO many), I used to put a link for a gps tracker for people with autism. That way they can be located quickly, hopefully before they get to water. I will find it and post it tomorrow, when I get to the computer. These are such amazingly sad cases.

Rest easy, baby boy. Play in your red shoes forever. :(

Sending you a  right now, because I know that you need it.

Please know you did EVERYTHING in your power to find this young man, and you did everything right, ok? I know how this hurts, and if you need anything, send me a PM. Thinking and praying for all of you wonderful searchers who helped this family not only search, but just by being there, you gave them support- things that can't be measured in dollars.

Thank you. This is such a sad ending. Heartbreaking and tragic.

I don't want it to be real.

I have to head back to work today after some time off....but this young man and his family and all of you here will be on my mind today.

I am glad they found him but so sad it had to be like this.

Fly with the angels Trevyan!

I find along with sadness I am also angry and dismayed.

The Rochester Police Department is virtually next to this bridge. It seems like they could have literally just looked out their windows if a 911 call was made about someone on this bridge.

Gosh...This poor young man.

Gosh...This poor young man.

Maybe I understood the reports wrong, but I was thinking he was sighted on the bridge on Thursday morning, but the police didn't get the 911 calls until later, when news of his disappearance came out. I find it unlikely that people would be calling 911 about someone on the bridge, unless they thought he was getting ready to jump or something (isn't there a pedestrian sidewalk on that bridge?? Not sure as I usually don't cross over that one)

But I am also extremely angry about this situation. School #12 is K-7, and has around 140 special needs children (apparently their specialty is autism). They should have staff out there meeting every bus that pulls in -- since every bus would probably have very small children, 5-6 year olds, and probably every bus would have special needs children on it as well. With that sort of school population, staff should be there to receive students off the bus, and escort the younger children and special needs children into the school (just as Mary Cariola does). To expect 5 year olds and special needs kids to make their own way in is just pure negligence!

And then...the teacher didn't notice Trevyan was missing!! So the school didn't call the parents. Sadly, this is par for the course for the Rochester School District.

Mt. Hope is a huge Victorian cemetery and is very park like. Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony are buried there. There is all sorts of ponds, mausoleums, and statuary on 196 acres. I used to go there during college just to get away and find some peace. I actually wrote one of my women's studies papers sitting at Susan B.'s grave. It is very easy to get turned about in there, especially in the winter with snow cover and bare trees.

“We made a mistake,” said Rochester School Board President Van White. “A grievous mistake. An unalterable mistake.”

“We are here for one reason and one reason only: to take responsibility for this young man’s passing,” he added. “We are sorry.”

During the news conference, school leaders admitted that at least three teachers marked Rowe present in class, when he was in fact absent. White added that the district has reason to believe that some staff members tried to alter attendance records after Rowe was reported missing.

http://www.whec.com/news/warren-trevyan-rowe-investigation/4824291/

...Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren said that "adult failures led to a young man's death in our community" in response to the investigation into the disappearance and death of Trevyan Rowe.

..Warren said that 911 dispatchers failed to follow protocol, which is to dispatch fire rescue and a scuba team after reports that Rowe had been seen near the river.

Acting 911 Director Stephen Cusenz said that multiple calls were made to report the sighting, but dispatchers did not update a log of the event. He added that a New York State Trooper responded to a sighting of Rowe near the Frederick Douglass Susan B. Anthony Bridge. When the trooper did not see Rowe, Cusenz said that dispatchers asked if firefighters should be dispatched. Cusenz said that the trooper called for a fire response, but firefighters were never dispatched to the river.

... six 911 employees have already been placed on administrative leave from their positions, pending the outcome of a full investigation.

Failures aplenty in this case. So sad.

what is the motive in marking a student present when they are not? carelessness or intentional?

RIP Trevyan,
