It has been reported at a 7% grade! wow

It doesnt look that steep on Google, I agree, but the NY Transportation Dept had to ban trucks from that route because of the steepness and inability to stop at that intersection.

I know grades like i know the keyboard! Is that steep -- like how would you "describe it" if that is possible??

Did the grand jury make recommendations to Cuomo that laws needed to be enacted on modified limos? I think this came about due to another fatal accident involving a modified limo.

Do you know if they ever passed any laws or rules about modified limos in NY state?

Tia

I believe Senator Chuck Schumer trid to promote Federal Regulations for more safety in the limo business after the Long Island multi-fatality accident with a stretch Hummer limo, but it went nowhere

2001 Ford Expedition has event data recorder. Wonder if it will be analyzed?

probably was not working -- if there passing on brakes I am pretty sure they are not maintaining the recorder!

I'm one who is all for fewer laws but IMO there should be a law to put a link to their safety report on all SM and other advertising. This is infuriating.

Look at where we are now - a mess.

Removing all regs - imagine what the next decade will be like

Timeline: The Making of an FBI Superinformant

Lots of info here about the owner of the limo company..

August 2006
After swearing to the bankruptcy court that he can’t afford to pay his debts, Hussain buys a run-down hotel in upstate New York and puts it in his wife’s name. Two years later, three guests sue Hussain for fraud after he takes prepaid reservations for rooms that are not actually available.
How do we know this is his father?

Maximum grade: Maximum grade is determined by a design table based on terrain and design speeds,[1] with up to 6% generally allowed in mountainous areas and hilly urban areas with exceptions for up to 7% grades on mountainous roads with speed limits below 60 mph (95 km/h).

oceanblueeyes: I'm not sure about the actual passing of any laws in New York, but this 2016 article has recommendations for changing the stretch-limo laws:

What about state lawmakers since this happened in the state?

I wonder how many accidents have occurred at that same intersection? I am assuming traffic engineers, city planners have that information.

Life is so random, that those pedestrians killed, had been in that specific place, at that specific point in time. Or is it Karma?

Physics and science. Like when folks say someone was watching over me.

IMO nothing has anything to with any thing watching over anything. It gross weight, speed, gravity, driver input, slope. road conditions, tire pressure, tire thread, wind speed, weight distribution, etc etc

NTSB is on it -- we will know lots and then there is not much new while they work and then we will know every millisecond sec by sec

I was surprised by the comment regarding how loud it was -- it was not like anyone using the thing was into monster truck events, or four wheeling or drag racing.

I know anyone I knew who rented a limo and it pulled up sounding like a farm tractor on a farm somewhere -- noone in the party is getting in!!

I believe you would have heard the sound of. *crickets* coming from legislators..... remember I said this is a shady business.

However, now there will be all sorts of activity from those who were likely complicit in shutting down prior regulations

Think this is ok because I removed the FB link since fundraisers are not allowed, but you can visit the reporters twitter if you want to see it

Governor Cuomo said regulations are already in place but there will always be those who will break the regulation/laws already on the books.

No muffler?

I thought they were talking about the sound of the motor. No where have I seen anyone say it didn't have mufflers.

The owner of the limo company from Schoharie crash agreed to be an FBI informant after agents found he was involved in a scheme to help people cheat to get driver's licenses. https://m.timesunion.com/news/article/FBI-informant-in-terror-stings-owned-limo-in-13290392.php?
This is true. The article (Deadly combination of crash site and limo company which has had four vehicles taken out of service | Daily Mail Online) where the people at the hotel say they have never heard of Sahed Hussain but the owners go by Malik <modsnipped- links to blogs need to be approved by owner>
