According to family members, William Amato, 29, was last seen Wednesday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m.

Deputies responded to Dutch Hollow Farm on Thursday for a reported suspicious vehicle parked behind a cow barn. The farm owner believed a hunter may have parked on his property, so investigators checked around but found no one.

The vehicle, a red Honda Civic with North Carolina plates, was later determined to be registered to Amato. A short time later, a family member reported Amato missing. He reportedly told the relative that he’d be gone for two hours on Wednesday, but never returned.

Deputies said Amato is currently residing in Elizaville, but also lives in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Investigators returned to the farm on Friday to search but did not locate him.

Columbia County Missing Person

On December 5, 2019 at about 5:35pm, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the owner of the Dutch Hollow Farm, located on Running Creek Road in the town of Stuyvesant, reporting a suspicious vehicle parked behind one of the cow barns.

[...]

Deputies continued with the investigation and, additional family members and known friends were contacted and interviewed; however, they did not see or have any contact with William after December 4.

Mr. Amato’s cell phone was pinged to try and obtain a GPS location, but the cell phone is either off or has a dead battery.

Sheriff’s Office K9 units were utilized to search a large area around the farm, but William was not located.

William Amato is described as approximately 6’01”, 180 lbs, and has brown hair.

I wonder if he has any connection to the area in which his car was found? MOO

So he posts a lot on Facebook in general, his last post was around 6pm on weds dec 4th, and supposedly left at 730 that night for a “couple hours” but never returns.
His car shows up the next morning at sometime early maybe around 8am behind a barn at this random farm... and the farmer calls this in around 530pm Thursday the 5th. Then (it seems) his family reported him missing around the same time, maybe around 24 hrs after he left.
I’m definitely feeling like they need to be processing that car carefully and thoroughly... moo

SABBM:
Amato was last seen Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m., his family said, according to the sheriff’s office. Amato had indicated to a family member that he was going to be gone for about two hours, but he did not return home.

“It’s not like him to go to this long and not call his mother,” Amato’s aunt, Barbara Thomas, said Monday. “We’ve tried calling him. He hasn’t picked up. It’s not like him. He would at least borrow someone’s phone to let his mother know where he is.”

<snip>

Amato’s cell phone was pinged to try and obtain a GPS location, but the cell phone is either off or had a dead battery, police said.

Thomas said she does not believe that Amato had a reason to be at the farm. He is not a hiker or avid outdoorsman. He likes to spend his free time with his friends, she said.

The family of William Amato is offering a cash reward for information that helps deputies find the missing 29-year-old. Amato has been missing from his home in Elizaville for a week.

"Billy is loved by all and is a great son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin. Just a great person," Amato's aunt, [RN], said in a Facebook post.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office supports the family's efforts, [RN] said.

Deputies are coordinating the search. They tried unsuccessfully to locate his cell phone signal and are still trying to find Amato with police dogs.

Another one not far from me. We have a FB friend in common (an ex-bf of an old neighbor I had). If he is into the same things that group of people are into, this could very well end poorly. NOT saying he was involved in it but judging from his seemingly deastic changes in weight in his photos, comments one of his friends made on one of the posts about him being missing and knowing what I know about his other friends/acquantinces (they've all had issues dealing with addiction: heroin, meth, coke, crack). I have a bad feeling about this. Hope I'm wrong.

I’ve been kind of wondering if it’s a drug deal gone wrong... maybe he went to go pick up/use with some folks, or maybe he was just a bystander at a “party” and something went down, and the next morning someone dropped his car off at a random farm. As I said above, I very much hope they’re analyzing the car very carefully!

Where was he last seen? Did he live alone or with someone?

jlbd783 - the family would like to know what exactly the comment said which you referred to and hopefully see the comment. They are trying everything possible to find him. Any bit of information would help.

Also, a search was being planned by the family and the detective asked them not to because it was private property and they could contaminate evidence. Is it possible the sheriff's office's is still actively searching? Or are they just sitting waiting on tips? At what point should the family start searching themselves? Any help/tips/suggestions they could get would be appreciated.

How big is that farm? Wonder why it took them so long to find him...

It was a comment between one of his cousins and a friend of his (I have a SS incase it disappeared and because FB was being wonky for me and kept kicking me back to the front page so it helped to refind her profile without sifting through tons of posts, comments and other profiles). The friend stated "I'll keep posting. I'm sorry. I've done stuff like this to my family though and I'm still here". When I looked around at her profile, she had posts regarding addiction (most recently prevention for youths and treatment, fair to guess that either she or family had been effected. Kinda guessed her due to her wording on the comment) so that was what I figured she was talking/hinting about. Mind you, I did say I do not know if he had been involved with this type of stuff. I was basing ideas around who he knew and what they were known to do.

As someone who also has family members who have gone through it and have "disappeared" now and then as well... we could always find out where they were if we asked around. Someone always knew something.
