Officials: 'Bath salts' are growing drug problem

  • #21
I don't get it? Do some people use these in the bath, or is it specifically made to snort up your nose? Why do they call it bath salts, if you don't use it in the bath?

Lordy me...

Mel

I can't imagine anyone uses them in the bath

They call it "bath salts" to say it's not for human consumption.. it's how they avoid being busted under the analog drug laws http://www.erowid.org/psychoactives/law/analog/analog_info1.shtml. It has the same chemical make up of an illegal or controlled drug with only slight differences and as long as it is not for human consumption our government allows it as a "research drug". Sooo, the drugs are still being made they simply market them differently. This is what happened with MDMA when it first came on the scene.. it had pretty decent potential until some idiot got the bright idea to market it as extacy and people began to abuse it. The makers of these chemicals are getting braver and braver and we see what's happening! It's time for the government to stop this- past time! It makes me so angry!!

They won't outlaw it, they'll just make you take a card to the pharmacy and scan your license to keep track of whose buying what. Like sudafed and those drugs.

I'll be really pi$$ed if they start selling this crap at pharmacy's!:maddening:

Oh for the love of all things Mr. Bubble. These kids can't catch a break. Well obviously it's not just kids using this crap*l*a.

The photos make this look all pretty and colorful. Gotta say this is a new one on me.

Between Blunts, smoking or snorting nutmeg, huffing anything they come in contact with and now this trash how can we keep up with these poor kids? Be informed is how.

Looks like it's the Mephedrone that is the hallucinigen and the MPDV that's the speed.

Scary stuff-- Our kids are not safe from anything, anymore.

Wonder why they are calling it bath soaps? It this to get around the drug
laws?

This stuff sounds very toxic and can alter the personality of those indulging in its use.
They need to ban this stuff. I like how these substances are downplayed by giving them such lovely names.

Very scary crap out there.

Do they know if this stuff can get in your system from the bath? We have orifices. I also surely would not use those around a young child who might be prone to drink from their bath. YIKES!

You are not alone. I thought they were bath salt - bath salts too. Apparently that is just a code name for what the manufaturer knew it couldn't market as what it is - a dangerous chemical that should not under any circumstances be ingested or snorted.

I'm confused too. I thought they were just a different kind of bath salt...

So people don't use them in the bath? How did anyone know they were supposed to be snorted?? You're telling me the manufacturers of this stuff are making it solely for getting "high"? And they just make up some fake name to get it in the stores legally? Well then how does anyone know it's not just regular bath salts? And how do people know to buy it and snort it??

I must be really old because this is all going way over my head.

No, youre not old.. you just don't think like a drug seeker/addict (Which is a good thing! lol). They are synthetic drugs created from chemicals based on compounds very similar to drugs that are illegal. In this country (and many others) it is legal to research chemicals it is also legal to sell them for research (though if you go to the earlier link I gave there are laws that have to be followed) as long as they are not sold for human consumption. So they switch it up a little bit (change an ingredient or something), call it something different and write on the package that it's not for human consumption but it's only to evade the laws.. They are created for human consumption. They know to buy it and snort it because it's what they do.. they seek out these kinds of drugs, they know what to look for and where to look, they know the tricks the makers of these products play and keep up with the new ones on the market through the internet or word of mouth in the drug scene. Supply and demand. They don't sell them at Kmart or Sears or bed bath and beyond because they aren't bath salts- they are drugs.. so they sell them were they are accessable to those who use drugs. The marketing is new IMO because of the internet age but the market is not... designer drugs have been around a long time and most were at first based on fentanyl and Demerol. We had LSD, PCP, etc. then we had ecstasy and GHB, ketamine, BZP, things like that. Then we had the Salvia, k2, spice, the "incense", the synthetic cannabis and now we have the "bath salts", "the plant food". The people knew they'd get high off the bath salts because they knew what the bath salts were before they bought them.. they bought them to get high.. they researched them and sought them out and they often have forums much like the one we are using here to discuss the effects of the drugs.

I have heard of X, I've heard of ketamine, not sure if PCP is the same as acid but think so, I've heard of spice but only just recently, lol. The rest you just named I was clueless about. Wow. When did I stop keeping up with what was in? When I stopped caring about whether I was in I guess. Age is good. I could get used to getting old.

TALLAHASSEE —
Disturbing reports of violent drug users "with superhuman strength," pushed Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi on Wednesday to ban drugs sold as "bath salts." Florida is the second state, after Louisiana, to outlaw the so-called fake cocaine.

The white powder, sold at gas stations and specialty shops around the state, has sent dozens of users to emergency rooms and mental hospitals in recent months, according to authorities.

Along with FDLE Commissioner Gerald Bailey and Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen, Bondi said her emergency order would add substances containing MDPV, a chemical found in the "bath salts," to the schedule of controlled substances — making the products a third-degree felony to sell.

Wow. Unreal. I had no idea, seriously. I thought I was far from naive when it came to the drug scene because I've dealt with an addict in the family. This is so scary. Thanks for the info. It never hurts to be informed, especially as the parent of pre-teens.

Yeah gas stations/quick shops too. Usually sitting with the little bottles of "quick energy" junk they sell.

hahaha I'm far from being "in" or wanting to be "in". I'm drug addict, in recovery. I also happen to have a 16 year old (and addiction runs in family's so I'm wicked paranoid) so I keep up on the drugs going around- IMO to properly parent a teenager in this day you have to! It's not like it used to be- all ya had to do was look for bloodshot eyes or the smell of alcohol, not anymore.. if a parent doesn't know what to look for their kid could be wasted and they wouldn't even know it.

omg, this is so scary...makes me second guess why my daughter asked if she could have a basket of bath salts I got for christmas.....I'm taking it away from her right now, just in case she heard about this and had any stupid ideas....she hasn't opened it,it's still standing in her bathroom....she's going to hate me as usual and tell me that I'm paranoid ,overprotective and crazy...same things she says when I won't let her walk down the street or drive with other teenagers.....

If they were given to you as a gift, I would think they are real bath salts.
Hopefully your daughter knows nothing of these other "salts".
I'd let her keep it and keep you as good mommy status. No reason to hurt the relationship over real bath salts.
JMO,OC.
Of course you might want to have a simple drug talk with her just to clear the air and make you feel better.

There is no way to protect the children 24/7 anymore....maybe 20 years ago, not these days.imo
