Antavia Kennibrew recently opened up about the alleged Sept. 13 incident on social media, according to reports by local Cleveland 13, ABC 5, and WOIO, writing that her 5-year-old daughter was found “unrecognizable” after a group of boys lured her into a nearby field where they physically and sexually assaulted her.

Unreal. It reminds me of the Murder of James Bulger. Another case of a young child sexually abused and tortured by 2 kids. What is WRONG with some people?!?

I hope like heck the child can heal mentally, but I suspect she won't be able to do that. She was the same age as I was when I had a nightmare that earwigs were all over me. I STILL freak out when I see one and that was just from a dream. What happened to this poor, innocent child was NOT a dream, and I fear that she will not be able to get over it like I can't. It's obvious what my trigger is, but what will be her trigger(s)? Men and/or young boys? That is so not fair to her that mean people get to live their fantasies and the victims don't even matter to them. NOT cool.

Dets of this case from your link:

Cleveland police have not commented on the specifics of the case, but said investigators are working on an "ongoing" matter involving "children under the age of 10, both as victims and as suspects"

Her hair was scalped from her head. She had bruises and blood all over her body. Her eyes were filled with blood. Her lips and mouth were filled with blood. Her nails had debris and dirt in it.”

Kennibrew alleged in an interview with Cleveland 13 that three older boys, ages 8, 9, and 10, were responsible for her daughter’s assault. The mother said the boys beat her daughter until she was unconscious, urinated on her and tried to strangle her with her shirt. The boys also sexually assaulted the young girl, her mother alleged.

The mother said that her daughter “is not the same” after the alleged attack.

“She is having behavioral problems,” Kennibrew told the outlet. “She is mentally not OK. I am mentally not OK.

Omg they are babies. I hope to see some parental arrests this doesn’t happen for no reason.

This story says that a 9-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl are being charged with, among other things, attempted murder. One wonders what kind of nightmare lives these kids must have had, to even know at that age that people do things like that to each other.

I hope they too are treated as victims and given forensic interviews and the right to talk. I know that’s a very conflicted feeling. There’s absolutely no way something didn’t happen to all of these children either by the assault of 1 and the imitation on to the others or by assault To all of them but they deserve an opportunity to talk about that too. And now they get to live with this forever. And sweet baby girl does too.

The world is screwed

I really hope that this case is handled correctly. These are very disturbed children and probably do not need to be in the public for a very long time if any time.

IMO, right now there is one victim and two assailants. Let the two accused be held accountable for their actions at this time. They can talk later for their defense. Right now, these two should be considered dangerous and not allowed around other children, not now, maybe not ever.

They can be both treated as victims and given forensic interviews and be held accountable for their actions. They are not dependent on each other. I didn’t once say they should be allowed around children

I am certain that during the trial the accused will be treated as victims by the defense. IMO, they should not be allowed to think that as victims that they are not held accountable for their actions. I'm very aware that they are children, that makes it even more tragic.

In accordance with my own personal experience of cptsd, this poor child will have many, many different triggers. That's how traumatisation works. All the different senses - sight, smell, sound etc - will have their own triggers.

This poor child is possibly still healing physically. After that, I hope the mother can get her into qualified trauma therapy, because the sooner you try for psychological healing, the better. Especially with trauma - the longer you leave it, the messier it gets, the more triggers evolve, the more retraumatisation happens, the more difficulty a child has developing in other ways etc etc. I know of a qualified trauma therapist in the US, who is also a play therapist for traumatised children. So they do exist. But they have to be found and possibly paid for privately in the US. Sigh. It would be covered where I live.

100% psychological healing is probably not possible, but even 10% improvement would be better than nothing and I so hope this poor little girl can get that or far more. Sending prayers.

Interestingly, the part of the brain affected by trauma isn't too good at sorting out what happened in a dream, or in your imagination, or in real life. Have you tried trauma therapy @Gemmie ? Maybe EMDR could help? It's supposed to be quite effective for one-off incidents. Though you may have a couple more triggers than earwigs. If you were to do trauma therapy, such triggers might come clear and then also be healed. Could improve areas of your life where you don't even know there's a problem, but afterwards it would be a :lightbulb: situation for you.

Wow. I had not considered that there would be other triggers for this child since mine is sight only. No sounds or smells to be triggered by, but I'll bet she'll have some. :( I really feel for her. :(

And no to your question. I hate even seeing or typing the word and I really REALLY don't want to talk about it in order for it to go away. I fear it won't and then I'll be dealing with it cuz I'm forced to talk to someone about it. I see them so infrequently, and always careful before I sit on a chair or bench outdoors, etc. Here's the weird thing.... I LOVE spiders, snakes and bats. Most bugs too. :(

Not just some, lots. Just thinking of sounds - sounds beforehand. Sounds during - the attack itself, voices of the young perps - a boy and a girl - and maybe they used different words from what she would hear at home or they had different accents, sounds of traffic in the distance, a dog barking elsewhere, twigs crackling under her, the wind or other natural / weather sounds... Might not be, but could. And then analogous examples for smell, sight, touch. Plus interpersonal triggers (trust issues with people - and no wonder.)
IMO

Fair enough, that you don't want to touch any of your memories with a barge pole and just avoid. I do that too with some of my triggers, it does hamper my lifestyle but for me it's just too late for some stuff to heal. Though FYI, EMDR is not talk therapy!

Anyway, this is a bit OT so if anybody wants to discuss further, you know what to do.

I just thought of Shasta Groene and what HER life has been like since she was rescued. That's what childhood PTSD does to kids.
