I made a similar mistake on Facebook once, many years ago. I had met a friend out for drinks and she introduced me to a guy she had just started seeing. I asked him for his last name so that I could vett him out on FB. In my drunken stupor, however, I posted his name as my status update instead of searching for his page. I thought it was so hilarious that I just left it there.

Just being in a hotel room with a girl who is under 18 and is your cousin isnt illegal- just WEIRD! legally I think someone would need to actually have a restraining order against this guy or press charges for proven statutory rape (letters? texts? recorded call saying they had sex? or her confessing) to have him arrested for just being with her before this.

Wouldn't a pregnancy test be done when she (and he) were picked up by local LE, and at that point when she tested positive,

wouldn't LE have contacted the proper child agency/ies to begin or help them with a proper investigation?

Even had she not been pregnant...what happened here?

So what, imo, if it's true that the mother did not want to press charges...so what, in this day & age with the "older males" and young teens!!

I wonder if child protection can mandate a test be taken? Since they can test for pregnancy using blood it's not as intrusive as, say, a rape kit exam or that awful internal sonogram wand.

Were all the charges he's wanted on in 8 different jurisdictions committed after they were found the first time, IOW he did all that between approx Thanksgiving and Dec 4th?

IF not, why wasn't he picked up when he went on the run with her and was found supposedly by police with her the first time?

I think they dropped the ball imo

- She is 14 yo.
- She is on the spectrum.
- She had been gone for 2 months.
- She was found with a 30+ yo convicted felon who served a good deal of prison time at a fairly young age.
- And said individual had committed other crimes after his prison release.

I believe LE would have seen that she had a quick physical exam and a pregnancy test in the least (not necessarily a rape exam) given those circumstances

In hindsight, maybe. But I imagine LE saw a 14 year old runaway with her 30+ biological family member. She was only 8 weeks pregnant, so it likely wasn't apparent to them. Additionally, she likely presented with no apparent injuries. If the family did not report suspicions of any inappropriate relationship, that would be a jump for LE to make. I think we also need to question whether the family reported how long she had been gone. It's important to remember that, from my recollection, we only have information about the initial disappearance (and LE's response) from AC's mother, who's veracity should be rightfully questioned at this point.

In general, I think we need a lot more information about the November police interaction to know if the ball was dropped by anyone. We don't even have confirmation that CPS wasn't contacted after that interaction and actively involved in the family's life, do we? For all we know, a safety plan was put in place by CPS that restricted contact with JK.

One additional thought I want to add is that, in my experience, sexually abused 14 year olds are old enough and wise enough to know how to conceal the necessary information from authorities, if they do not feel ready or safe to disclose the abuse. Absent a disclosure from the child or an admission from the perp, LE has, at most, red flags. Red flags don't equate to charges or convictions.

Parents are the one's who raise those issues. If Mom did not tell police she was concerned about her well being and wanted those things done, they arent going to do it.

The charges were not all accumulated during that time. Some were before.

I'm thinking she might prefer to be with LJ and not want to call her mom or authorities. I've been assuming they are on the run "together."

Yes, I realize she is not old enough to consent. But I am thinking that she is okay with being on the run (not that it makes it okay).
