ETA I see, found the answer myself. Children not locked in their bedrooms. RP reported they were asleep. RP (husband) locked himself into his/their bedroom to contact LE.
-------------------------
“RP and juvenile daughter are locked in a bedroom,” the dispatcher tells authorities. “Just a correction - the juveniles are going to be in their own rooms asleep currently.”
Mother killed in apparent home invasion; Police scanner traffic reveals new details in investigation

Huh... That's a slightly different interpretation. I wonder if it's possible they were actually asleep together when the shooting occurred, and afterwards the husband locked himself into the room with his deceased wife to prevent the children from having to witness their mum that way?

For those just catching up:

Ashley Flynn, 37, shot twice, reportedly while in bed.
Husband and both children in home not physically injured -
All were reportedly locked in their respective bedrooms.
It is not clear why the Husband was "locked" in a seperate bedroom.

It bothers me that apparently, at least judging from the way the dispatcher relayed info to the officers going to the scene, the 911 call seemingly went something like... I think someone broke into the house, the garage door is open, I'm locked in a bedroom, the kids are asleep in theirs, and my wife was shot in the head and isn't responding.

Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure the part about my wife being shot in the head would have been my first statement, and should have been the dispatcher's as well. Maybe it was the husband's, and the dispatcher just relayed the other info first for officer's safety. I hope so. JMO

I really wish we had clarification on exactly where the husband was when he made the call.

I wish we had clarification about so many things.

1) WHERE was Ashley shot (location in home)?
2) how did husband know wife was shot?
3) how did he know juveniles were asleep in their respective rooms?

A burglar breaks in and kills someone and the community is in no danger ?
I'd be freaking the heck out if I lived there.

It sounds to me like the Police believe it was a targeted attack (just for example - it may be to do with an extramarital affair / a known stalker etc).

I think perhaps, since we don't have the actual 911 call audio, it's best to reserve judgement.
Third hand accounts of conversations tend to loose some meaning and context, and shock can also have quite an impact on the way we relay information.

Where in the house was she shot? I know the article said her children were locked in their rooms I don't understand why children would be locked in their rooms. Why and when were outer locks put on their bedroom doors? Also, is it known where the husband was in the house during the invasion?

I'd considered that as well. ^^^

Except ... wouldn't the husband be worried the shooter was still somewhere in the house, and his kids were in terrible danger ?

hello, just joining and getting caught up. Can I ask, where is the info that the children were locked in their bedroom(s) coming from and do we know the ages of the children? Because I agree with others who are confused by the idea of the kids being locked in their room(s) and husband being locked in what I presume is the master.

ETA I see, found the answer myself. Children not locked in their bedrooms. RP reported they were asleep. RP (husband) locked himself into his/their bedroom to contact LE.

Thanks for linking this, @tlcya . ^^^

Either the dispatcher made a mistake or the 911 caller changed their story ?
Juries' still out on that one, my .02 only.
I would like to hear the 911 call myself, or at least see a transcript of it ?
Omo.

Article in Today's Dayton Daily News:

Tipp City police said there is no indication the community is in danger following the deadly shooting of Ashley Flynn during an apparent burglary earlier this week.

“As previously stated, investigators believe this was an isolated incident targeted at this specific residence,” police sad.
Flynn died after she was shot twice in her home in the 900 block of Cunningham Court early Monday, according to police.

Officers responded around 2:31 a.m. on a report of a burglary with a resident who had been shot.

Police also denied rumors that a person had confessed to Flynn’s death and was in custody.

“The release and spread of unverified information is not only untrue, but also deeply detrimental to the Flynn family and unfair to those involved in this investigation,” a police statement read.

The department asked the community to stay patient as the investigation continues.

“This process is not immediate,” police said. “The community deserves a complete and accurate investigation, and the family deserves a full and careful review of all available evidence.”

Tipp City police are working with multiple agencies to solve Flynn’s homicide.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene on Monday to process evidence and assist in the follow-up investigation. The FBI, Miami County Sheriff’s Office and Miami County Prosecutor’s Office are also assisting in the investigation.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday morning, and police are following up on information collected during that process.

Investigators are reviewing tips and information submitted by the public. Anyone with details or videos they think may be related to Flynn’s death should call Tipp City police at 937-667-3112 or the Miami County Communications center at 937-440-9911.

The death of the 37-year-old Tipp City Schools substitute teacher and volleyball has left the community in shock as they mourn.

About 100 people gathered Wednesday at Christian Life Center in Butler Twp., the Flynn family’s church.
Flynn was married to Caleb Flynn and had two daughters.

She previously taught for Tipp City Schools and spent the last year as a teacher for LifeWise Academy in Tipp City.

Sally Shank, a neighbor, said everyone who knew Flynn loved her.

“She really just engaged you,” Shank said. “She was full of light. She’s going to leave a big hole in our church, and our neighborhood and our schools.” <end>

Bbm.
Am esp. interested in your last sentence !
Regarding your first question; Look at my comment above, #128. :)

So, not locked in their rooms, just asleep ?
Wouldn't the sound of not one but two gunshots wake them though ....
thinking out loud.
Imo.

Probably everyone in the house was tested for gunshot residue, aka GSR ?

Normally I could not imagine any kid able to handle a firearm but there's that case of an eleven year old who shot his dad after his (kids') Nintendo was confiscated ?
Very rare, but it has happened.
Imo.

This young woman being shot dead in her own home is absolutely tragic. I'm interested in following the case as it unfolds. When people in crisis make 911 calls it's not uncommon for information relayed by them to be confusing, events out of order. I always have to remind myself of that. At the same time, what they do say in those moments can be very revealing.

This just happened on Monday. LE is just days in. It's probably a wise strategy for LE not to reveal much right now. I'm sure they have seen the madness around the NG case in AZ. Time will tell with this one. IMO

If I wake to the sound of gunshots, I'm not locking myself in my room without my kids. I don't need to know any of the details.

Was thinking there was information about the forced entry or a door open and just re-located your post and link; thanks !
Looking at the second post here with a photo of the house, it looks like a ground-level dwelling.
So, which garage door was open, left or right ?
I have a reason for wondering.

Are the bedrooms located near the garage or at the farther end or behind the main front photo ?
Anything taken at all ?
Targeted or random.

Am guessing LE will have done a GSR test on everyone at the residence.

My first thought was what if this was a suicide and the husband didn't want anyone to know.
But it was called in as a burglary, so...

Did the Flynns' own any weapons ?
Etc.
Imo.
She had 2 gunshot wounds. No suicide.
