Liang Zhao, dad of 5-year-old Ashley Zhao, charged with murder, assault. More soon. Latest via @CantonRepdotcom: https://t.co/pRFyytcSQ3

Oh, geez. I was holding out hope that this was an accident, or at least it wasn't on the parents.

ETA: This was tweeted by @JHolbrookREP

There is more information in this article.

Parents charged in missing five-year-old's death

http://www.newsnet5.com/homepage-showcase/parents-charged-in-missing-five-year-olds-death

So who is Mingming Chen and how is he/she related to the family? An employee or relative perhaps. Why, if the father knew this had happened, did he not call 911? Did the mother know what had happened before reporting her missing? I am so confused, angry, sad ....

According to the article, Liang J. Zhao found the victim had her head struck on the floor twice by Mingming Chen. He found her with green fluid coming from her mouth. Took her to bathroom to wash it from her face, where he saw she was not breathing. He attempted CPR
Zhao charged with complicity to commit felonious assault and complicity to murder. Chen currently being booked in jail, charges to be released soon.

ETA: Chen is the mother. :maddening:

I don't understand ---- how could a parent get so upset as to do something like this to a defenseless child, and how could the other parent help to cover it up?

His wife seems to be sick an abnormal amount of time. Unless of course she has a illness but I don't understand why he wouldn't be going to work? Seems so odd. I know it means nothing. Just weird.

Perhaps "sick" means abuse and violence. If dad, mom, kids...were bruised or harmed...no work.

I wonder who was the main abuser here. It sounds like a very violent episode happened. Surely it wasn't the only time.

What a horrible, horrible thing. Poor child. I hope the sister is OK and safe. Who knows what she has experienced or witnessed :(

Somebody said that Ashley had a sister. I only see pics of Ashley on her Father's FB no other child.

I believe Mingming is the mother.

I'm wondering if there's some post partum depression at play here. If there's a more recently born child it could be the issue with all the illness and the father taking time off as well. Just a guess at this point.

Are we just trying too find out who killed her

We live in Jackson and I really have nothing to contribute other than I knew when we did not get an Amber Alert that they pretty much had a hunch who they were looking for. I have to add that I never visited the restaurant and did not know any of these folks but my heart is breaking for this little girl. I was just at the walgreens across the street from it and you can see the bci vans and the burger place a couple doors down is open for business as is everything else in the plaza, life is going on as normal. For some reason that makes me cry, like I expect them to close or something right? Just another person to come here and say, "this never happens in my town", I feel sick, why can't people stop this behavior. Thank you guys for posting the story and trying to find this little girl. I have a feeling this may have happened over the holidays I believe the kids all went back to school on the 3rd so maybe the mom was calling her off from school too many days and they asked for a doctors note??? This all came on so suddenly that she was missing it almost seems like the mother knew the school isn't going to buy it without a doctors note so they had to come up with this missing act of theirs. I used to think schools just asked for dr's notes to put the screws to parents who really cannot afford to take little Susie to the doctor for a little fever that is over in two days. Now I realize this stuff just didn't happen here when I was a kid, schools have learned from crimes elsewhere and I think that is now why they want a note from doctor's. After a few days of not setting eyes on a child for several days they want to make sure the child is okay and alive hence a doctor visit. Going back to reading your posts here to see what all you have uncovered but thank you folks again for trying to help her. I wish it had a happy ending, it just seems none of them ever do anymore.

Edited to add any of my speculation about the school note stuff is just people brainstorming today why this broke so sudden and she was found so fast. It could have some truth or it might not so if you have to delete it, please feel free. Not sure if speculation is allowed here and if not my apologies.

I am unclear why you ask this. It seems pretty clear from the arrest info we have been given that the mother smashed her head and the father helped to wipe away the green slime from her mouth ... and maybe gave CPR. Yet they did not report any accident, but did report a "missing" child. It seems pretty clear the parents caused the girl's death, no?

I had a gut feeling after reading the restaurant fb that maybe mother is mentally ill. Perhaps he feared leaving her with kids? Also Chinese kitchens by me are family run and open 7 days a week and most holidays, so perhaps not too unusual to close 5 or 6 times a year
What's unusual is for a business to post it's closing because of being tired and overworked. Sounds like he was overwhelmed and it leaked onto the FB page.

Also, I think he covered for her crime to try and save what's left of his family. So sad really. I guess more details will paint a picture of a difficult life for this family.

PPD sounds very likely. Usually I'm so angry. For some reason this one has me feeling so sad for them. That's crazy. I don't know why. I think maybe it will be because we will find out about a mental illness. Chinese are very proud and traditionally unlikely to seek help for mental illness. I've read an article regarding how punishing they can be on themselves to succeed and bear all curcumstances.

I read the ANGS cuisine FB page BEFORE Ashley was found and I was like wow, this guy is losing his isht on his business page. Somethings wrong with his wife. He's always working alone. I Thought maybe she had medical problems. Still so very tragic.

IF there's abuse between mom and dad, dad's story may be made up believing that if it looked like he tried to save the child, he'd be spared a worse sentence. You never know. They say the incident happened in the morning? And has anybody seen yet where she was supposedly hidden?

Dammit this poor girl. I'm so sorry little Ashley. You didn't deserve this :(

I mean, green slime? Does this mean bile, or had she been poisoned as well?

Or mom was actually the abuser. I feel like LE must have something more than just what the dad says. I wonder if mom's hands were injured, swollen, etc. For her to strike a child so hard to kill them, I would think there would be injuries. Maybe mom confessed, also. It sounds like the mom was the one abusing, at least on that day. So sad and horrible. All of it.

I wonder if the mom was also assaulting the dad

They searched the home and took a car. I wonder if it happened at home and she brought Ashley to the restaurant in the morning.

Subscribing.
What the hell happened here?
I want to know where they hid her little body before they went back to their regular lives...

Sorry, slime was my word. I am just frustrated. The actual quote was "green fluid". Perhaps the child had been sick and thrown up, or some food she had eaten caused the green color. An autopsy may tell more.
