Found Safe OH - Barbara Raines & 2 Babies, Middletown, *Husband Threatened Her* 12 July 2019

Family was concerned Barbara Raines disappeared after they said Clayton Raines had been on the run from police. Raines was accused of running over his brother.

Barbara’s family said he made a threat that he was going to kill her right before she went missing.

She was found and, on Thursday, Clayton was arrested for felonious assault.

According to court records, Clayton, 43, got into a violent verbal altercation with his brother July 12.

“He got enraged during the argument and ran him over twice with his car,” said Jacqueline Conley.

Family said the brother is still in the hospital recovering from his injuries, but has been taken off life support.

This is a wonderful outcome for the safety of BR and the kids for sure, but they have lost their father now for many years. In what sounds like an out of control rage reaction, he has affected the lives of his family, his brother's family, his sister and so many others in an instant and he can never get that back.
There is a great deal of sadness here.

I was curious how much prison time CR could get so I googled and found this from an Ohio lawyer's page:

Felonious Assault is a felony of the second degree, punishable by a definite term of imprisonment of between 2 and 8 years. If the alleged victim is a police officer, the offense is a felony of the 1st degree, punishable by a term of imprisonment of between 3 and 11 years. If a firearm was used, then an additional penalty of 3 years imprisonment, consecutive to the underlying prison term, is mandatory and must also be imposed.

What Is Felonious Assault in Columbus Ohio

Seems like a pretty light sentence to me. A defense lawyer could argue it was an accident or that his brother was making threats and CR was afraid and panicked. I hope he serves a few years at least and doesn't just get probation. And I hope Barbara manages to move on with her life and keeps her babies safe. MOO.
