OH OH - Beverly Jarosz, 16, Garfield Heights, 28 Dec 1964

I was thinking the partial palm and fingerprint could not be matched to any suspects why? Who were the suspects all men? I used to believe it was 1 man. I'm leaning more towards a woman. I talked to a detective one time many years ago about a specific woman because they were always looking for suspects and asking the public to help and he told me no maybe he didn't want anyone to know. He told me to get a big slab of meat and stab it 42 times he said it would not be easy. I read most likely this person had been in the Jarosz home many times probably in the basement playing records and in her bedroom on different accusations with Beverly. No one would even think about a woman cutting through the backyard. Beverly cut through the backyard many times going to the Ice-skating pond behind the Fire Station. The police even drained the Ice-skating pond looking for the knife on a tip.

Another murder that bothers me, is the Melissa Jane Letain Murder in Edmenton Canada, February 14, 1987. I can trace Harry (now using the name Jozsef Madol in 1987) to Edmenton in 1987, but can't find definite info he was in Edmenton prior to February 14, 1987. He was a fugitive from breaking Federal Parole and doing a mining scam in Prescott AZ and San Mateo Calif. When AZ LE got wind of the mining scam, Madol fled to Edmenton. He did have an office site about one block away from where Melissa Jane Letain was abducted when she left the mall after work. If you google the name Jozsef Madol some of his past businesses in Canada will come up on Canadian business sites. Canada does NOT have FOIA so obtaining any court info etc on Letain's murder is impossible.
Decided to start a thread..

hey dotr, great to start a thread on Melissa Letain. As you know my passion was the Beverly Jarosz case and Harry Joseph Madol being a prime suspect. I'll add this to Joseph Madol being in Edmenton Canada at the time of Melissa's abduction and murder. As I said earlier, his office was but one block from the mall Melissa worked in. Also the man he was in business with and at this office a block away, had been in prison for murder. The man gained early release by turning Prosecutor witness to a shanking that took place in the prison where he was incerated. He was the "look out " man for the inmate who killed the other inmate. The night of Melissa's abduction in the alley near the apartment she shared with her boyfriend, Madol was definitely in the area. He had been arrested by Edmenton police for a stolen rental car from Toronto. The problem I have is Canada doesn't have FOIA, therefore I can not obtain a police blotter as to the exact time Madol was picked up by LE and taken to Edmenton jail. I don't know if it was before or after Melissa's abduction.

'GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — It's one of the greatest murder mysteries in Northeast Ohio. 16-year-old Beverly Jarosz was strangled and stabbed 40 times in her bedroom 60 years ago, and her case remains unsolved.''

'Detectives say they are getting closer to possibly solving the case, thanks to new interviews and advancements in DNA testing.''
“Beverly's diary was missing, and it's been missing ever since," said Ferrato. "The police don't have it. It was just taken. So the person who did this took the diary, and most people think, well, they took it because maybe his name was in it. Right? That's the most logical thing you think of right off the bat. But in my opinion, he took it as a trophy, and I believe it's still around.”

''The two believe the killer was stalking Beverly, saying he was always there and stalked her at her final resting place.''

I've read that the jewelry left anonymously for Beverly was in a box from Higbee's, a now-defunct store in Cleveland that appears upscale. Has anyone found references to police asking employees there if they recalled making such a sale?

That's a good question. I'm sure they had charge accounts back then and could've searched those records or even a written check but if the buyer paid cash, no way to trace that.

Jozsef Madol is living in San Mateo California.

The last I heard Madol was living in Europe. He wouldn't risk coming back to the states because he would be arrested. I have been in the process of trying to obtain records from his time at WJ Maxey boys school and his criminal records before he came to Garfield Heights in September 1964. WJ Maxey got shut down for several different allegations. I was able to read the federal document about sexual assault, torture, etc. That was from the early 2000s I believe; I often wonder if he ran away from the school because of what might have been happening behind those doors.

After reading over 100 articles about Beverly from the Plain Dealer, I do remember seeing in a few of the articles about police going to Higbees and trying to find out who bought the jewelry but they never got substantial information that led to anything. I'm sure he would have paid cash and records were probably kept a lot differently then, of course.

Hey! That's John Ferrato and I :) My name is Scarlett Vinson. We have been working on this for well over a year every single day. I have actually managed to speak to a few different people who were alive in 1964 and lived and/or worked very close to Beverly at the time, among many others.

I will always believe that Madol was a terrible person, but he didn't murder Beverly. I know to my bones that he didn't. This was personal. I even pulled a 200 page case study on stalking trying to understand how the minds of stalkers work. In the summer of 64, when Beverly started receiving the gifts and the calls starting happening, Madol wasn't even in the state. The person sending the gifts, the person making the 10-12 hang up calls a day, the stalker standing in the yard that night looking up at her window, the person that followed her in the museum, the stachowicz caller are ALL the same person. She was being stalked and eventually, the rage built up and it ended in her being murdered. She was stabbed not once but over 40 times. This was personal. If this was a spritz attack, like Madol's style, it would have been a few stabs, kill her and move on. But no, this killer hunted her like the dynamic between predator and prey. He loved the hunt. Innocent flirting and making hints is one thing; following her and stalking her at night looking up at her window and harassing her is a WHOLE other story. Just because Madol couldn't tell the police where he was that day doesn't mean he did it. He might have been up to no good, but it wasn't murdering Beverly. That's why they could never keep him and had to let him go; they had nothing on him. The crime scene break down and the autopsy report can point to who DIDN'T do it. I'd be happy to discuss more if you like :)

So, Vince Raymond, who took over after Horrigan, always believed a woman was involved. Why? because she wasn't raped. I respect Raymond and he has/had a lot of interesting notes about why the woman theory came up. Roger, Bev's boyfriend, would often hang out with her and they would play records in the basement, but I believe Roger didn't do this. However, Roger has always been the focus for Horrigan in this case and what most of the files probably focus on. A woman was not capable of doing what happened to Beverly. She just isn't. We know Beverly was being stalked and that stalking led to the climax: the murder. The stalker and the killer are the same person. This was one man who plotted and planned for months, possibly even before the summer of 1964. Look at the murder gender statistics: In 2023, there were 14,327 MALE murder offenders in the US compared to only 1,898 FEMALE. I'm positive that those numbers would have been WAY less back in 1964. It just would have been SUPER rare. This was one man..

it was a priest. has to be. in the 1960s priests were above reproach and werei intimately tied to the police department they were held in high regard. Beverly hard something secret.going on a relationship that caused her fear she was involved in something she could not find her way out of. 16 yr old girls have secrets. she was afraid to have curtains open and had a dagger in her bedroom? all these years the people they keep referring to as potential suspects have been cleared over and over.police have nothing. someone else was lurking. it was not a female, the stupidity thing I have ever heard. Perhaps Beverly was going to tell her parents or she decided not to continue with the relationship and that man became very angry. she was highly involved in church, volunteer at hospital thru church. she had something going on yes she did it waa her secret with one other. IT WAS NOT ANYONE I. THAT ORIGINAL CIRCLE. GARFIELD HTS NEEDS TO CALL IN PAUL HOLES AN EXPERT who found golden state killer. GET A PROFESSIONAL!! GARFIELD POLICE INCOMPETENT. WASTE IF TIME..THE ORIGINAL DETECTIVE STATED THIS: 'I KNEW WHO IT WAS FROM THE FIRST DAY..I CANNOT TELL YOU HIS NAME AS IT WOULD NOT DO ANY GOOD ANYWAY'. HE KNEW HE KNEW HE KEPT IT A SECRET HE PROBABLY KNEW THE INDIVIDUAL AND KNEW EXPOSING WOULD BE HORRIBLE FOR THE PRIEST.

GET PAUL HOLES. THE TRUTH MAY NEVER COME OUT. Question every single church people still alive. broadcast on tv asking for help keep the case going.
I watched the HBO series on the Golden State killer as well as read Michelle McNamara's book about the Golden State Killer, Joseph James Deangelo Jr.

I also believe no one in Bev's circle did this. I also know a priest didn't do this either. She was a straight laced girl dating Roger. When you look at the crime scene, the autopsy report, and the events that summer and after, it can all point to who DIDN'T do it. Detective Horrigan, the first one on the case, believed Roger was the killer until the day of his death. My research partner and I were recently on Cleveland News5 back in December 2024 for the 60th anniversary discussing her case and our new suspect we've brought to the detective working her case. The news segment is on YouTube as well as our YouTube page chronicling our research and our suspect. Our page is called Beverly Ann Jarosz 60 years. The introduction of the MVAC and finding new male DNA is hopeful. I can't wait to see who it reveals. It's time to see her killer's name in the light.

Madol has been a very busy criminal. Is he at the level to be considered a possible serial killer?
I think Madol is a very sadistic person. He is capable of murder but not Beverly's.

Bumping this thread up. This unsolved case is now over 60 years old.
